We do have an unspoken etiquette of specifically bumping some threads that haven't been on the first page of the Recent posts for a while, in cases like:
it's a commission/adopts thread,
it's a thread that's important to the community/newbies in general (FAQs, guides, maps), or at the moment (a current event thread, for example).
it's an art piece person1 made for person2, person2 hasn't seen it yet, and is now online. Things like that, you'll figure them out.

Well, I can say that this is quite unusual, but you really get used to it and when old comments come across at the very beginning, you remember all those moments with which they are connected. Or you immediately start looking at where it all started.
I think it's more like a book, because first you read the introduction and only then the continuation immediately understanding what it's about.
