I suggest letting the videos load all the way before you watch. They seem to go choppy if you don't. Quality got killed a bit, too, but that's YouTube for you.

I've got quite a bit of experience with 3DSMax, but only modelling, not animating. Is it a lot of work to get to something like this?

@root: Yes and no. The setup of the character can take quite a bit of time. It's not difficult to animate, really. It's more time-consuming with a lot of tweaking to get it to look right.
