TEF II Step 17

The forest in the remake is now just as big as the forest in the current game. There's a lot that remains to be done. But an alpha release may be in sight.

Read all about it in the dev log.

I love how dense this new forest feels. All the plants are lovely; it seems so lively.

A very exciting step! I cannot wait to see it come into its own. Especially the potential with lighting and colorization in unreal.

Excited to see the new birch forest. Also seconding what wormwoods said: the grass looks so dense!

I like the dense grass, but

I like the dense grass, but I'm not sure how I feel about how saturated everything is. I honestly think the current forest looks better in terms of colouring; the saturated yellow-green in the video is pretty unpleasant to look at.

Definitely approve of the density of the foliage/trees, but overall I'm not really a fan of how the game looks so far. Maybe it's just that the graphics/textures aren't aging well, or maybe the over-saturation and sharpness just doesn't really work.

Seconding a comment above, though: I really do hope there'll be new content for the Forest aside from a saturated reskin of the old one.

The videos tend to look

The videos tend to look darker than the game. At least on my computer.
And this video shows work-in-progress. On the dev log I explain this a bit more.

One of the purposes of this remake is to be able to add new content. This was not possible anymore because the engine of the old game had stopped evolving. So: first the remake, then new stuff.
