He asked her something gently, and she said no
He pressed his lips to hers through the bars of the cell and smiled
And she forgave him for sin
Like Judas, he betrayed her with a kiss
Imagine the black nights and the spice that filled the air
The crawling king snake alone in a ruined den
With nothing but corpses of memories
And a hole where a heart once lay
'Doctor' he said, and tore apart his chest
'Take it and preserve it until she returns'
And all that remained when he left the clinic
Was a hollow, lonely feeling, and a need for release
Too many answers to question; too much to sift through
Shit on his boots stinks and makes his eyes water
He forgets what he's here for - then remembers again
For release, for freedom, for both her and him
And when he visits his children they ask him, confused
'Daddy' they say, 'when will Mummy be back?'
Like a father he lies to them and tells them she'll be back soon
And every time he says the same thing over and over
She'll be back soon, he says, and like a snake, crawls
Back to his empty den and takes a whipping
Wakes with new scars each day and night and afternoon
And like a murderer, he drinks, and drugs, and steals
The poets of the West and the shamans of the East could never guess
And the witches, they cried and wept for his loss, knowing
The gypsies died at his hands as he betrayed them
Though not with a kiss, and not with such love
Wakes to the sound of someone leaving that filthy shack
Laughs to himself once they're gone and turns over
Sees her face by his window and does a double take
Looks at her again, right into saddened eyes
He starts to realise after some time that she weakens each day
Knowing of his betrayal, even if she understands
And he knows his sons tire of their absence too
And like a lover, like a father, like a husband, he can do nothing about it - for love.
Bump.
Wow, okay. So 27 reads and
So 27 reads and not one comment? Dannii is an amazing poet, people that have tried for so long to write don't possess the talent she does, and not one person could tell her how amazing this is, the thought and emotion that are in one of her poems are amazing, and it saddens me that this is going unnoticed and not one person has bothered to tell her this.
I loved it Dannii.
