SAI?

Paint tool Sai.. I've been wondering about it for a while. How good is it in comparison to GIMP? I'm unable to purchase a tablet, which means everything will be done with the mouse; but I don't know the different between the two programs besides that GIMP is free.

I have never used GIMP but I love sai because the water tool lets you blend things like paint. and for me it is just easier to use, though you need a tablet for pressure control...

BUT for those with no tablet there is a pen tool that you can make points on so it looks like you used pressure (alot like illustrator)

I've used both programs and found SAI infinitely superior. It allows for smoother lines, and the range of brushes let you draw in a variety of styles (from painterly to thick, bold, cartoon lines). I have not however used either with a mouse, only with a tablet, so I have no idea how the lack of pen sensitivity would effect either program...

A good idea would be to download a free trial version of SAI and test it out. If you like how it feels, buy the full version and you'll have it forever!
