As some of you may know, I am attempting to draw a series of relatively simple, flat-colored reference pictures for each and every one of my characters. This would be the second group of images in this little project of mine. Included in this batch, in order, are Selvian (above), Shizuka, Cruz, and Osias. I might redo the latter, but I am rather pleased with the rest of them, considering. I hope that you like them. ^^
Thank you for all of the comments. I still have a ways to go with this "project," but I am enjoying the ride, and I am glad to know that you guys are, too. ^^
Thank you very much, Serenai. I typically try to shade and texture my drawings, but I have to admit that there is something rewarding about flat colors, too.
There is absolutely something charming about it. The way I draw, am inclined to draw, I can't let things alone. I don't know if I would be able to pull off any coloring like this without getting obsessive about it. I also obsessively tidy up my lines. Perhaps these are reasons why I so value those who do not do what I do, because I would never see these things otherwise and I admire their ability in a place that I thus far lack due to nature. c:
Serenai: I understand what you're saying. I don't know if it is at all relevant, but just about every picture of mine starts off this way, as the reference pictures above, should I choose to ink them with the pen tool in Photoshop. Otherwise, should I take the picture further, I shade and detail obsessively. It's enjoyable, but sometimes I simply prefer flat colors... And I am talking myself in circles once again. XD
Splinters: I don't suppose that you mean Selvian? The character on top? In either event, thank you for your comment. ^^
I prefer circular conversation anyway. Wide circles, admittedly, but circles nonetheless.
I consider it relevant! I... Have been trying to draw traditionally more, so now I'm starting off with scans. I think I have a method down, though I haven't used it much. I copy my outlines on another layer with black, color in those outlines completely ignoring the lines with all sorts of hues and shades to create form, then erase all color that falls outside the lines. Then I switch back and forth between having and not having lines, adding details and the like, until the picture looks good without them. Them I remove them, finish up any detailing touch-up work, and I'm done. At least, I did this once and liked it. xD I'll try again. I have something in the works now.
But yeah, especially with traditional images... I can't leave them alone, even when they're "done." Always a little more shadow here, another line there...
I love this batch too! I love
