"So I've Heard..." {RP Blog}

This is a bit of a blog for Quad's "I want to learn to Fight..." Blog, Since Quad said the best way would be to RP I thought I would make a blog specific for said RPing so that we can keep a good track of it.

Nightmare might not be the best teacher in the world but he's willing to give Quad a few tips and tricks of the trade if he would like to learn them Sticking out tongue

Fighting... it was one thing that the giant blue had learned to accept no matter what. It happened a lot with him, and he was prone to violent acts when the need rose it's ugly head. But tonight he had gotten a bit of wind, perhaps the whispers of a small dove talking to him or speaking with those that he had adopted in as his family. Someone was looking for teachings, a tutor of sorts. And while he didn't exactly look much like someone that would actually take on a 'pupil' of sorts to teach his fighting style to Nightmare was prone to giving guidance when required.

Only recently had he taken on the task of teaching Sonan, his adopted daughter, some ways to defend herself should she ever be faced with a situation where her speed and agility could not help her. Brute force, but style was something he knew how to work with but due to his size there were many downfalls to what he used to fight others. A thin snort slowly came out of the giant as he walked along tail swaying slowly behind him as he browsed through the calm and rather peaceful forest.

He had 'scented' the buck out earlier in the evening and when he finally saw the other within the distance Nightmare carefully made his way over to the others form. Intimidation was one factor that often played to the giant blue's style, most were intimidated by those looks, especially those jaws... but that wasn't something that he often considered. Dipping that large skull down slightly to get a closer look at the other stag he chuckled softly "So I've heard from a few that you desire to learn some ways to fight..." Nightmare let out drawing his head back up "If you would like, I could show you some of my ways of dealing with others... and perhaps, you can show me what you have learned from others..."

Quad was nearly startled when

Quad was nearly startled when Nightmare spoke, but he calmed and replied, "Yes, I'm the one who is looking for information about how to fight. It's mostly because I've always had big antlers but never knew how to use them. I...kind of broke them off in frustration a while ago, which of course now I understand was a mistake...", he shook his head here, "Anyway, I'm happy to learn anything you have to offer, and I'll tell you some of the techniques the others have taught in return."

He bows here, "My name is Quad, by the way. May I ask what yours is?", he asks his mentor in a polite manner.

There was a soft chuckle as

There was a soft chuckle as he looked to the budding rack on the stags head, he could only imagine what type of antlers the other had before he'd busted them off. Shifting Nightmare stretched out for a moment, mostly to get his body comfortable. The past few days had been taxing on him, especially with fights "Most just call me Nightmare, a name that lives up to the beast..." Another chuckle before he shifted around and looked over the other for a moment.

"One thing you will learn is that in a fight, you should target the legs. Everyone has their perks and weaknesses but they all share one major one. If you can get the legs, you take out power... after all... if your attacker and opponent cannot stand they cannot damage you." That was something he had learned all too well, given his size... and his inability to be fast and Agile it was easy to pick off those blind spots.

"Disorienting your opponent is also a good strategy... I'm not sure if you have the head for it but giving a good... and well timed butt to the head is a good technique for such things. Especially if timed right and hit hard enough. It can give you an opening to use a more... powerful attack."

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"

Quad nods here. "Queze

Quad nods here. "Queze taught me about that, using your antlers to attack the legs, try to dislocate them. He also stressed that my opponent will not show mercy, and so I should not either...but I just don't know if I could do that. It's not my way to cause more suffering if they are down. I'm just not that kind of stag.", he says, sighing here. "I guess the better way to explain is that I really only want to use this in defense of myself and my loved ones. I want to be able to protect a doe I love, or fawns in trouble...or especially my daughter. I don't know if she even knows how to protect herself..."

He shakes his head here, "But I'm not sure if that is really what you'd like to hear. Tell me, is there anything in particular you'd like to know about from what I learned from the others?"
Graveyard's picture

"A very noble cause...

"A very noble cause... sometimes instincts often kick in when a loved on is in danger. You have that sense and urge to protect them regardless of your own well being. I'm a bit more ruthless with my own style but I don't try to hurt unless the matter truly requires me to do so." Shifting some Nightmare casted his attention to the stag before tilting his head slightly "Feel free to show me whatever it is you desire, and I'll watch... I'm sure you've learned many things from previous teachers so I'm sure you have some... interesting techniques to show me."

A nod came from him, shifting some he turned and moved a slight distance... to watch and observe whatever it was that the other decided to show him.

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"

Quad nods here, and stepping

Quad nods here, and stepping back, he takes a defensive stance. "This is the technique I've developed from learning from each person...", he says, and then shows the phalanx-style attack. He pretends to block an opponent's attack, then 'shoves' them back and attacks, sometimes with his hooves trying to scratch the imaginary opponent, other times using his antlers to sweep at the ground. He explains a trick Darkweaver showed him when an opponent tries to get around, he thrusts his antlers to the side to hit the imaginary opponent. He considers sweeping at their hooves much like what Nightmare was trying to show him, to dislodge their legs in order to keep them from moving.

"It's very essential to protect your ribs, too. Queze also taught me this, that small horns can actually penetrate through the ribs and puncture vital organs...I also learned not to expose my throat or stomach too much either, as they are just as vulnerable."

Straightening up, he turns to Nightmare. "So...what else can I learn from you?", he asks out of curiosity.

The giant blue watched the

The giant blue watched the other... observing how he would strike at the imaginary opponent. A nod of approval coming from the stag as he shifted from where he was and continued to watch "Very good... a means of shoving your opponent back to strike is a good strategy. Especially if you can exploit something..." Another nod, and Nightmare shifted slightly and moved, his entire side to Quad.

"For instance, if you manage to knock them back you can then rear up... and use your head as a means to daze them even further. A swish of that long tail, and the stag reared up some... using that skull of his and ducking it down... a couple times in fact, as a series of rather quick headbutts "If done right, you can daze them... or even knock them out to avoid anymore damage done to yourself or your loved ones..."

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"

Quad nods again. "Someone

Quad nods again. "Someone actually taught me that too...what was his name...Spade! He showed be a great attack involving rearing up, and putting your weight into a ramming attack. I tried it but of course my antlers...well...what is left of my antlers are too tender to try it again. I actually made my head bleed.", he chuckles a little here.

The blackbuck speaks a little more, "I can see how effective dazing an opponent could be too. I'll certainly keep that in mind while in a fight. Many of the deer who taught me before stressed being relentless in attacking."
Graveyard's picture

"Be relentless but not to the

"Be relentless but not to the point where you lose control..." Nightmare let out watching the other before shifting around "If you lose control you risk hurting yourself and others around you, because your attacks become far more unpredictable and dangerous." Another lesson well learned from Nightmare as he stretched out.

"Now... what do you do if your opponent rears up on you? Do you continue with your strategy of shoving them back? Or... do you seize the opportunity to strike a vulnerable weak spot?"

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"
quadraptor's picture

Quad never really considered

Quad never really considered this. "I suppose it depends on how high they rear up. If there isn't an easy place for me to strike them underneath, I'll prepare to defend myself, take the blow, and shove them back. However, if they're reared up enough, maybe where their belly is exposed...I'll use it to my advantage, try to bend down as low as I can so I can jab them upward." The thought was good to talk about, he wanted as much information as he could get before ever getting into a situation like this.
Graveyard's picture

Nightmare chuckled and nodded

Nightmare chuckled and nodded his head "Good answer... now, if someone like me were to rear up..." There was a pause in his words and the blue stag shoved himself up onto his hind legs, balancing carefully... giving Quad a visual for things "There are two places to aim for... three if you want to go with a more... ruthless approach. The stomach, the chest... and the throat just where the jaw meets the neck..." Shifting, he came back down before taking a step back.

"Disabling is one thing, but if your opponent has lost their mind and is completely unstable you might have to considering the ultimate option... to kill them." There was a long silence as nightmare shook his head before he lowered his head down shifting and spreading his legs out acting like a brace for an invisible opponent "Even when someone has not reared up high you still have an opening to hit their chest or throat... if you lower yourself down close to the ground and brace yourself they will not have the time to respond and your body will take the blow while they land on your head and antlers..."

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"
quadraptor's picture

"I see...so even if I don't

"I see...so even if I don't have the belly to aim for, the chest or throat is just as good. I'll certainly keep that in mind as well.", Quad speaks, "Killing someone...", he hesitates here, "Is it even in me to kill another?"

But then he shakes his head, "Remember Iugulare. Remember what she's done. She's killed my friends...even my family..."

He stares into Nightmare's eyes. "If it's that serious...I have no choice."
Graveyard's picture

The beast watched him

The beast watched him carefully and sighed out deeply "I suppose killing another does not come easy for some... those who have lived a peaceful and... rather non-violent life would find such a task to be difficult. I've grown and thrived on the knowledge of killing... in fact, I killed members of my own family..." There was a shake of his head as he walked around sighing out, but... he hadn't killed in years.

"The thing is, killing often comes as an instinct... an adrenaline rush, fight or flight... if you are backed into a corner with nowhere to run the fight option triggers. If you are injured to the point where you cannot run you will do everything in your power to defend yourself. I've found myself down that road a few times before..." There was a nod of his head and he showed the major cracks that lined that massive skull.

"And when it doubt if they are rearing up on you, there is always an opening at the legs... if you break a leg you disable them. Trust me when I say it takes awhile to get used to just having three legs." There was a chuckle as the stag glanced down, his one leg wasn't like the other... not in the least, it was a normal deers limb to be honest that was slowly developing to become like his good limb.

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"
quadraptor's picture

Quad hadn't even noticed that

Quad hadn't even noticed that one limb was different from the other. He understands the other's words, and then speaks, "That's all I need to know. I think you've helped me perfect my fighting style. Is there anything more you needed to know from the others who have taught me?"

He isn't sure if there was anything else to learn from Nightmare, but he offers the chance to say more of what he was taught if the other stag wanted to hear anything in particular.
Graveyard's picture

A soft chuckle came from

A soft chuckle came from Nightmare before he shook his head "No... you've shown me more than enough actually, and I even learned a bit from you actually... a way to shove my attacker back is actually very handy..." A nod of the head as he shifted where he was "If I can shove them back I can easily gain an advantage in a fight, which should prove very useful for you as well. Here's to hoping you never truly have to be in a situation where you need to be ruthless though..."

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"

Quad smiles here, "And let's

Quad smiles here, "And let's hope you don't get any more dents to your head there.", he hopes he doesn't go too far with the joke. "Well...thank you for your lessons. I guess I'll need to go practice what you showed me."

Bowing, he turns and begins to walk off, more confident than ever that he had learned so much more from another teacher.
