TEFc Tutorial: Blog Nodes (linking)

The blog title problem; broken links

As you are probably already aware, when you create a blog the title you use is what makes up the URL. However, if you are ever to change the title of your blog, if you linked to your blog anywhere before that link will become broken as the original title is fixed as the link. This can be solved by node linking.

Node links and how to get them:

A node is the unique number of any page you create. This number cannot be changed, so when used in a link, it doesn't matter how many times you change your blog title - your link will never be broken (unless you delete the blog it belongs to of course.)

Create a new blog with a node in the URL automatically:

When you create a new blog, put a full stop "." as the title and create it. This will automatically place your node number in your URL and it will look like this:
http://endlessforest.org/community/node/numberhere
You can then edit your blog title to whatever you want, and your node URL will remain. Woo! This is exactly what I've done to this blog, and as you can see the URL contains the node number and not this blogs title.

Unfortunately there is a renaming limit, for example on Dag's biography I cannot do the full stop trick to generate a URL with a node in it anymore. However, on my profile page I still link to it with this node URL.
http://endlessforest.org/community/node/18660/

How to get a blog's node number.

A link for your own pages:
If you have old pages where the full stop trick doesn't work, simply click "edit", and the URL will look like this:
http://endlessforest.org/community/node/nodenumber/edit
Copy and remove the "/edit" and that's your link!

A link for other peoples:
It's so very annoying when you've linked to someone's biography in your own characters blog, and they go and change the title so it doesn't work anymore! Save yourself some trouble - if they haven't got a node in the URL, get it yourself and never lose their page link!
Click "reply" or "comment" to the blog you want to link to. Look in the URL and you will see:
endlessforest.org/community/comment/reply/NODE NUMBER/commentnumber
or
endlessforest.org/community/comment/reply/NODE NUMBER#comment-form
Paste the node number into this URL:
http://endlessforest.org/community/node/numberhere
Now you've got your unbreakable link (:

Thank you so much for this

Thank you so much for this ♥!
I never knew how to get the node from someone else's blog.
