You probably want to know what's happened to me? Why I'm dead and why I'm a deer.
I was just a simple guy from a small mountain village. Lived in a simple family.
My father was a hunter, mother was housewife. She kept house, looked after children and livestock. Me and elder brother was the only children.
I got very heavy character. I was stubborn, bumptious, selfish and rather lazy. Father tried to teach me how to hunt, because it was the main source of food in our land. But due to my character it was absolutely hopelessly. And he gave up one day.
That's why my brother was a favorite among parents. He was clever and dependable.
Forgot to note that I also was very jealous.
And once I decided to prove that I'm not as useless as everybody thought.
The only weapon that father entrusted me was medium-sized hunting knife.
I remember that it was the end of winter. Just at that time started to go ice on water. I was wandering around the woods searching for a prey. Suddenly I heard a splash from the river and went there.
The river in this area was wide and deep but with slow flow and ice completely covered the water in winter.
Then I saw him. Adult magnificent buck. Entrapped by unpredictable spring ice. It's seemed that he was trying to cross the river and fell through the ice. He was already exhausted. That moment I thought "What an easy prey". How silly and arrogant I was.
Why am I concluded that I can pull him out?
So you can predict what's happened next.
My weight wasn't enough to break the ice and I reached him without any hindrance. Deer was still alive and tried to get out this trap. I slowly approached him, caught the antlers and cut his throat. Then happened what must happened. The deer began to sink. I was not expecting it and hesitated. I was trying to hold him and pull out but tangled up clothes in antlers and we began to drowning together.
I remember how my mind was gripped with dread. I realized that I'll die here and now. Until the air was over I swore to change myself if I'll survive. Then was a darkness and silence.
Fate played with me a cruel joke. When I woke up I found myself on the bank of the small creek. It was summer. And nobody around. I made an attempt to get up. What?! Four legs?! Then I'm realized that I have no breath, no heart beating. I'm a deer. And I'm dead deer.
I believe that's my punishment. For all my stupidity. I'm agree to be a deer, I don't want to go through that horror again.
Even if I'm not literally alive I'm thankful to this second chance. I'll change myself.
