The past few days have been a total change for Light since her return to the forest. She has refound old friends, and relearned how to laugh and play without letting the constant fears plague her. She played a merry game of chase-and-spell with Vala, danced with fawns. She is certain that the current rut is partly to blame for her melancholy of late, so has avoided the herds of rutting deer now forming in the forest. The lone stags seeking more does have thankfully not approached her often, for she is not interested in becoming part of a harem.

The sight of the pairs slowly drifting around the hillsides though does make her ache. She has only to remember that though he is sleeping deeply and often, he lives, and still cares for her... and that will have to be enough.



September 27th, 2013: Today has left Light spilling over with happiness! She woke in the poppy field to see Roucaud napping nearby, and immediately went to his side... she had to check, to be sure it wasn't just an illusion. But no, his cool breath whispered gently across the grass and his side was as solid as her own.

Light curled against him with a contented sigh, and his presence made her feel safe enough to fall into a deep, and for once dreamless, sleep. When she finally awoke it was to the feeling of the stag's shifting as he slowly rose and stretched himself. She realized that Merral had joined them as well and was sitting curled nearby, and she hesitated for a moment, lifting her head and searching Roucaud's face for any sign of rejection.

His eyes smiled down at her and he nuzzled along her back as she stretched to greet him. In his eyes she saw forgiveness for her absence and in his touch was still the tender connection she remembered. He did not blame her for her disappearance! Light nearly danced with joy! Her eyes flooded to a bright amber and nearly spilled over with happy tears.

Merral rose, and Light hurriedly introduced him to her beloved, realizing the awkwardness this might present only as she saw the expression on Merral's face... but happy that Roucaud, ever the gentleman, seemed to take the stag's presence in stride and welcomed him warmly. His opinion may have been helped by the fact that a strange stag, in full rutting mood, approached just then and issued a bellowed challenge!

Rou politely declined, somewhat amused at the bravo of the larger creature, and Merral placed his muscled sides between the aggressor and Light and gave him a stern warning that this was not a good challenge to make. The young buck, looking somewhat ashamed, retreated to a distance realizing it was a mistake to challenge two powerful looking stags at once, and Rou quickly suggested that they walk further into the wood where things were a bit quieter. He even made certain that Merral knew he was welcome to join them.

Light's hooves felt as though they barely touched the ground as she elatedly floated along next to her love. They climbed a hill near the ruins and sat watching the world for a time, the three of them resting in companionable silence.

Light dozed on and off for a time, rising to greet those who paused on the hill, until she fell asleep again curled between the two stags, their candles flickering in the soft breeze.

When she awoke again Merral had departed, and she was sorry she had slept too deeply to bid him goodbye. She found little Besiini tucked against her warm stomach though, and rejoiced even further that the little owldeer was safe and well.

She settled down again between the sleeping Rou and Besiini, and was startled from a near-doze when the oddest sight came charging up the hill. The great Walter and the gentle Seed, surrounded by a positive CLOUD of fawns, and all of them dancing happily! They all greeted her and let her join their dance for a few moments before dashing down the hillside again and off to the pond. Light was left laughing, and felt even more full of happiness as it seemed to radiate off of the group.

Besiini's sister, Gwendolyn, joined Light soon after and Iaurdagnire's great bulk rose on the other edge of the hillside. Light happily greeted the keeper of the woods she had not seen since before her disappearance. Rou rose to greet the little fawn and the other stag, and to give Light a loving nuzzle before he drifted off to rest more deeply further away from the rest of the forest.

Light suddenly felt as though she belonged once more. She realized that since her return she had been hovering at the edges as if waiting for acceptance... like a homeless shadow, flitting on the borders waiting for someone to tell her she was welcome once more. Rou's presence, even if he had withdrawn further to the wood away from the other deer in her time away, was a solid reminder that not all had changed about her forest, not all was lost... She was forgiven and not forsaken, and she was home once more.
