Hmm, figured I'd pick up where we last were at the ruins with Falo and her together? Just figure it'd be an interesting way to start off. If you want me to change anything, tell me. Good God, it's 6:40AM what am I doing?
Dew lined the stone archway of the ruined temple. The smell of fresh grass was in the air and dragonflies flew about, searching for...something. Who truly knew the ways of dragonflies? Upon a raised wall with his side leaning against the pillar, the Sentinel lay. One leg casually dangling off the mass of cemented stone as he snoozed away.
The reason for being in such a position was brought forth by the doe he'd met two days prior. Not knowing her name, he'd gained her company by some odd means. Maybe she had thought him strange? Or maybe something was intriguing about him? At the given time, Asfaloth didn't know. He just knew her as a trickster. Reminding him of Artamir during their early days together.
Oh, how that buck could be. His pranks and jokes. He'd almost been unbearable, but Asfaloth held his temper back.
It was during an empty void of dreamless slumber that the stag was awoken by a distant call in the woods. Nothing out of the ordinary; just a fawn calling for its mother. And within seconds, the doe could be heard answering her child.Good,he thought before yawning. His yellow eyes heavy lidded as he scooted his head to the side, taking up a different position so his neck wasn't as cramped. His cheek pressed against the stone, giving him a sort of guppy-face look which, he was sure, Aneirin would giggle at seeing as how he never made any faces on his own accord.
Through his fuzzy mind, he wondered where his curious doe had gone. Was she watching from afar this time, or was she on her way back to join him like she'd done so the day before? She'd been strange with her stalking, but it wasn't like Asfaloth hadn't had these things happen to him before.
The lithe little doe was on her way back from the pond, and her eyes lit up upon seeing the now-familiar Secretary bird stag. She chuckled to herself, staying out of his periphery as she approached. A light blue mist covered her face as she morphed it into the mask covered humanoid version of her ungulate form. Staying in the shadows of the trees, Nadezdha slipped closer, and closer, and closer, until!
With a bright light emitting from between the tips of her delicate ears, she cast another spell on the buck, this time changing his antlers to wee little nubs. With a soft snort, the midnight pelted sheila hid behind a tree, peeking around it to eye the buck from behind, waiting for his reaction.
Asfaloth heard the sizzle of magic as it flew toward him from an unknown source. He felt his antlers suddenly become lighter, and his yellow eyes looked up to see his great white antlers had dispersed and were now mere nubs.
An eyebrow twitch and heavy sigh later, the stag lifted his head off the wall. Eyes narrowed to search for any sign of the Trickster, only to catch her shadow descending behind one of the few trees nearest to the ruins. Raising his brow, Asfaloth turned back as he moved his way off of the wall. His hooves touching down on the ground just below it.
"You know,"he said, doing his best to sound bored,"with all of these spells being cast, you'd think you would at least tell me your name."He stretched, bringing his front legs forward as far as he could before standing up straight again. He shook, causing his long, black hair to wave about for a bit before settling once more along either side of his white neck.
The doe peeked out from the tree's girth she hid behind, feathers and ears perked. She slipped out from around the great organism and walked towards the large white stag. When close enough, her elegant little head titled in curiosity and a front leg lifted itself from beneath her for a moment before it was placed back down. " I am called Nadezdha. And yourself, o'nubby one?" She chimed in a rather deadpan voice. There was no expression on her face, and no air about her that suggested she was good or bad. She was simply there. No rhyme or reason, no motive or cause, just a wandering soul passing through and causing a few giggles along the way, even if the giggles were not her own.
"I am called Nadezdha. And yourself, o' nubby one?"
Asfaloth's brow raised, looking her over for what seemed like the tenth time since they had met. She was a curious one, he'd give her that. Curious, and a little strange; though he liked her subtlety. It gave her an air of mystery that intrigued the Sentinel, seeing as how he wished to observe and understand mostly everything in the wood.
With a shake of his head, the magic that had settled upon his antlers shook free as well, giving back the large, white crown he'd been born to have. With a quick, clearing of his throat, the stag lowered himself to a bow before the doe."I am Asfaloth; though some know me as the Sentinel. I roam around, being a protector of sorts when those who need it, call."
He stood back up, addressing her with his eyes."You're new around these parts, are you not?"
The doe sunk in her own respective bow, standing back up after. She lifted one of her furry brows to the male before nodding in agreement to his words."I am new, yes. Just a traveling doe. I mean no harm." She propped one of her back legs up casually, and eyed the much larger buck with her blank interest, a sort of lazy expression passing over her feminine face. " It is nice to meet you, nubs. I'm sorry about the spell casting, you just seemed the prime target for my rare antics." A soft smile grazed her lips for only a moment before it faded back into nothingness. Her feathers flattened against her slim neck, and her ears relaxed at either side of her narrow head.
"It is nice to meet you, nubs. I'm sorry about the spell casting, you just seemed the prime target for my rare antics."
Nubs?Asfaloth's brows raised at the mention of a possible new nickname, though weird as it was seeing as how his antlers were at full bloom. Raising a hoof, he waved it in a dismissive gesture."Don't worry,"he said, putting his hoof back down."If it's not you, it would be one of the stray fawns who know me. They seem to like practicing their trade on me as well, and to be honest, I don't really mind as long as I'm not doing anything important."
Asfaloth was, indeed, the patient kind. He was laid back and not at all loud. He usually didn't need to be.
A small smile turned up the corners of his mouth."You say these actions of yours are rare. I take it you don't always go about casting spells on everyone you meet?"The small smile grew into an amused smirk."Well, well, I must be special."
" Oh yes indeed you are. I can tell by that lovely helmet you're wearing." She teased, meaning his matching mask. Nadezdha stretched slightly before she sunk back into an old habit; sitting. No, not laying, sitting. Like a dog. She was once a dog, after all. Wolf? No, dog... Maybe. She chuckled quietly to herself and tilted her plumed head a bit. "I jest. You just happened to be the one my mind set itself on when the urge to spell cast crept up on me, is all. Didn't help that you were coming towards me."
She let her feathers fan out for a moment, wrinkling her nose at the amount of mosquitoes in this forest. She didn't like bugs. Especially mosquitoes. And ticks. And fleas. She didn't have the two latter feasting on her, but she knew well enough what it was like. These mosquitoes seemed to be professional at weaseling their way under her plume to feast on her blood, and it irritated her to no end. With a snap like the closing of a hand-held fan, her feathers closed tightly onto her neck, trying to keep the obnoxious beings from further intruding upon the sensitive area.
Going towards her? She must have meant the day when he'd followed her strange scent whilst wondering who the new doe of the forest could be. Also the same day he lost her when she ran from him.
At the mention of his helmet, Asfaloth willed the thing to appear on his face. The magic he brought forth allowing it to appear as though it were burning itself on. Flames crackled as it laid out the hard material upon his white furred face. The familiar short, yet curved beak looming over his own nose while the black crest spiked backward like a bone mohawk upon his head. His black hair fanned around it for a moment before settling down, and his yellow eyes gleamed through the slits that had been carved into it.
"You caught me while patrolling,"he told her."I smelled you in the area, figured I'd follow it. Didn't think a doe would sneak up on me, though, and deliver quite the shock of a new pelt. You were behind a tree, after all."
@Waning-Sun : Feel free to interact if you wanna. c: }}
"Oh? Patrolling? Hm... I am new here, so I suppose it would be understandable that you come to investigate..." Nedezdha extended a slender front limb in the direction of the larger male before lowering it to the ground. " This patrol business, you open for apprentices? It would be a wondrous way for me to explore this place with someone who knows it well..." Her expressionless face tilted slightly in curiosity, her mouth not moving as she spoke.
The stag came to halt near the structure of the Ruins, turning his head to gaze about him. Was she there? He didn't know. Maybe she wasn't, she seemed to be a hard one to track down. He shifted nervously, not liking being out in the open more than he had to be. The forest wasn't safe-when was it?- and in recent weeks nothing could be more true.
He took in a breath and tried to remember what the doe's name was. Had they even exchanged names? He couldn't remember, everything was running together. All he could recall was that Aria had been spooked upon seeing her and that sleeper, and he had been torn between greeting her and running after the gray doe.
With an irritated shake of his head he looked around again, hoping nothing had taken to stalking him in the few moments he had been staring off into space.
The little doe had been on her way back to her favored pedestal upon seeing a somewhat familiar figure. A stag she'd recently met, no? She leveled her head with her shoulders, extending her neck before her as her normally expressionless face contorted with thought. No name could be pulled from her memory, and she exhaled a sigh. She seemed to be meeting so many friendly deer here, but yet not catching their names or they catching her's. Oh well, second time's the charm, eh? On light and graceful hooves the starry pelted doe approached the buck, making sure her hoof-falls were loud enough to be heard; she'd had a few experiences with her footsteps being too quiet and spooking off potential friends. She perked up upon approach, ears pressing forth in an alert manner, tail flagging slightly, and feathers puffing up before laying in a slick flat cape around the back of her neck.
Footfalls. The one eyed gray wheeled about at the sound, his body tensing as if he was about to flee, only to relax a little when he recognized who was approaching. It was the blue pelted doe with headress of feathers. He took a moment to compose himself, before trying to flash a friendly smile.
"Err....hi. I don't think we were able to meet properly last time."
"No, I don't believe we were." The doe gave a somewhat awkward smile on her ungulate face, before giving a gracious bow of both greeting and respect. When she stood straight, she spoke again. "Perhaps now we have the chance?" Her head tilted cutely to one side with her chipper question, ears perking unevenly. She raised a hoof to delicately itch at the leg next to it before placing it on the ground again.
Pffft, that's fine. I usually log in and lay my deer down and tab out to work on art. xD }}
" I am Nadezdha. It is nice to meet you too, Zash. Say... were you by chance... looking for me?" With a soft giggle she approached further until she was standing before the stag, cocking one back leg up to take the weight off of it. She bent her neck down an shook herself, her feathers spiking up for a moment before settling back sharply with the snap-like noise fans made when closed. When she straightened, she stood and blinked up at the taller male, big red eyes studying him shamelessly; although for the most part they simply examined his face and expressions.
He couldn't help but continue to smile at her giggle- women and their weird little laughs- though he nodded at her question, "I was...I felt bad I didn't get to properly say 'hello' to you."
Her ears pressed forth on her head and her head tilted. She studied him for a moment with her wide, placid eyes before she responded with a rather cheery voice. "I'm liking this place more and more. Better than any other place I've been to. Think I just might have to stay." She mused, raising a leg in a charismatic way. When the leg met the ground, she bowed her head gratefully, her ears falling back and eyes half closing. " I thank you for your hospitality. I hope I did not scare your friend too much; I saw her fleeing when I lay down near you and the other two. I apologize if I upset her."
"This place is good if you know who to avoid and who to befriend," he agreed, watching her move, "It's alright, don't worry about scaring her. She's just really shy. She'd warm up to you if you got to know her...or she you."
He'd never thought about it, but hadn't that been what Odin had done? Taken him on as an apprentice when he'd been just a fawn? Asfaloth had figured that, if Dahlia's pregnancy foretold a son, his job would be passed on to him.
But with a doe... He wondered if that could work without him having to worry.
"It's not really...a business, per say,"he explained."It's sort of inherited. I've never thought about taking on others, but...I suppose it could come in handy. More eyes on the forest and all... Besides, if anything should happen to me-"Someone would have to do something, wouldn't they? But if no one is put in charge...
A small span of silence spread between the two only until Asfaloth shook his coat as well as cleared his throat."Well, I suppose having you patrol with me would be alright, but might I get to know you first?"He chuckled a bit."All I know of you is that you're a nightfall pelted doe with quite the trigger finger."
What was he thinking, of course he would be worried! As a protector, he would feel responsible over her life as well as others that may come to harm. If something were to happen to Nadezdha, he would take the blame and guilt would spread through him like wildfire. Though these quarreling thoughts rushed through his head, the stag kept the small acknowledging smile on his face.
@Zash:
The wee doe nodded to her special little nook of the Ruins, quietly motioning the stag could follow. She sat down beside her pedestal, folding her sinewy legs beneath her. She tapped the ground before hand, indicating her new guest was more than welcome to join her. " Now, I'm assuming you're one of the ones to befriend? And so your friend is as well?"

@Foofies:
The dark pelted doe eyed the stag before she gave an indignant snort. "Stop" She didn't give any other words of what she wanted him to stop, just that one crisp snort. She knew he was worrying, she could see it in his eyes. Her own red eyes narrowed a bit and she stretched out her legs slowly.
Zash followed after her, settling down where she indicated to sit. He shrugged, not wanting to dictate who she should be friends with, "That's for you to decide, I guess. I wouldn't consider us horrible creatures, but that could just be bias on my part."
Asfaloth could feel that familiar quiver that made him shuffle his back leg a bit. He'd always had that quiver; even when he was a fawn under Odin's hoof. It was the sorta thing he did when he was caught, which, being his silent nature, wasn't often. So for it to happen now was a bit annoying to say the least, and his smile was instantly replaced with a resentful frown.
He raised his front hoof as a gesture for peace, knowing full well the reason for the doe's sudden irked nature."I only hesitate mainly because of the fact that you're new,"he told her, raising a brow."I have yet to see what you can do besides casting pelt and antler spells."
Placing his hoof down, the stag turned away, listening to the surrounding woodland as crows cawed scattered overhead. The birds had been acting strange for the past day and he wondered if it could be because of his friend's disappearance. None of the animals would come to him, knowing what else lay under his deer pelt. He was pretty much a wolf in sheep's clothing without the sheep.
Without looking at her, he added,"Though I do have to say your observation skills on facial recognition could be quite handy. Not many can catch on to me as quick as you."The charming smile returned and he looked back at her, waiting to see what she would say next.
@Zash:
Nadezdha nodded in understanding, her expression actually managing to change to one of thought. She didn't speak for a moment, as if she was weighing the thought of something. When she did speak, she looked at the stag who had lain near her, a furry brow nub raised. "Well, I don't think it's biased. You, at least, seem like a nice stag. I can't speak for your friend as I have not met her... But I would like to make friends. I usually do not have... friends. I think it's time I made some." The weird smile on her deer face returned, and she held her head proudly, as if making friends finally was some big decision to her.

@Foofies:
The little doe seemed to have her eyes plastered on the sky. Her crown of feathers fanned out, almost in alarm, and her eyes were round and wide. When she looked back at the white stag, though, her eyes and face were once again completely devoid of anything. When she spoke, her voice was soft yet steely. " I can cast other spells, I can do more damage than most think I can do. My dark fur hides my scars... My last life was filled with ugly people and hatred. I am used to the horrors life can throw about without reason, and I am good at reading others. I was a dog, after all."
Asfaloth blinked, taking in her words."I would say sorry that you had to deal with such things,"he said,"but I don't believe my words will make up for what has already happened."He lowered his head in understanding as he said these words before rising back up again."You say you were a dog? Do you remember what breed exactly?"
He wondered if she could be one of his old friends from his life as a wolf. A friend he had forgotten with his change into a godling deer.
@Foofies:
The doe stared for a moment, gaze lost in space before she spoke with nearly venomous words of her old life. "I was called 'Ugly mutt' most of the time, but I remember some of the older dogs saying I was not all dog... Half of me was wolf. Or some part of me was. I am not familiar with my parents from then, or where I came from, but that is what the man and the elder dogs called me when they thought I could not hear them." Her gaze burned into the space she'd become lost in for a moment before snapping back to the stag, watching him or his response.

@Zash:
"It is quite lovely here... How long have you inhabited these woods?" Her voice had become content and light, her eyes half closing with the settling feeling of calm around her. She fanned out her feathers slightly, the stiffer ones providing a roost for the wee songbirds that had been waiting on the crumbling walls around the pair of deer.

Asfaloth listened to her words, trying to understand where she was coming from. But who could really step into someone else's shoes? He didn't have time magic like some other deer in the woods. All he could do was try.
"A wolf-dog,"he said."It's no wonder you speak with such an air of eloquence."He stood there for a moment, feeling the sun bake the black markings of his back. He remembered how, during his days as a wolf, he had a full black coat. It was unpleasant during the summer months if it got too hot. Snow was much more his deal.
"Anyway,"he cast a glance to the woodland before looking back at the doe before him,"why don't we leave your past in the past? It seems to be troubling to bring up, and I don't wish for our conversation to take a quick turn to the dark. Why don't we go to the pond?"He chuckled a bit and lowered his head."I have to admit that I'm a little thirsty."
"I've been here a while..." he muttered, trailing off think before shaking his head, "Yeah, a little while. I've seen all of the seasons at least once by now." his brown eye watched the birds with a mild interest. "Have you been here long?" he figured not, but then again, half the deer in this forest he had never met.
