(Sorry for taking so long XD I'll go ahead and postie)

It had been a couple days now after her birth into this Endless Forest, and endless indeed it seemed. There was so much to explore out here! The small feathered fawn was farther away from her "home" behind the Crying Idol than she had ever been, and though a part of her tugged at caution at being in such unfamiliar territory, the powerful curiosity that comes with being so young dominated her spirit.

The Forest was glowing with the late afternoon light leaking in through the canopies, causing some things to glow. With awe on her face, the little one clumsily made her way to yet another patch of purple flowers, happily plopping down among the soft little things to rest her legs, and bask in the familiar sweet scent of them.

Kalvin awakened in the top of the Old Oak, hanging from the ceiling with his head upside down. He yawned loudly, causing an echo throughout the hollow tree. He blinked a few times to fully emerge. Despite it was already afternoon, Kalvin was still sleeping as he usually sleeps at day and live at night. In his island, his clan was in the habit to wake up a while before the evening because they had to get organized. The fawn-bat almost fell off the top, he almost forgot he did not know how to fly yet. Carefully, he proceeded to climb down the wall to the ground using claws hidden in the fluff behind the hooves. They were rather small, but big enough to climb.

Once he put his hooves on earth, he stretched out and approached the entrance of the Old Oak. The light blinded him for some seconds until his eyes were getting used to it. He looked around, the Forest was calm today. Not a single fawn to be seen. Yet he remained on his guard. He did not know the Woods very well yet and therefore had to be careful. Kalvin walked out of the Old Tree and went in the part of the Forest behind it. He could see the Ruins from afar. And that is when he saw it that he realized something. He could see them but even if he did go to the Ruins several times already, he had never used this path behind the Oak, he rather passed by the Pond to go there. So that is why it is called the 'Endless Forest', the winged child thought.

As he was reaching the Ruins, he spotted a squirrel eating under a tree near a path of periwinkles. Nobody had ever taught him to hunt either, but he had to try. For days, he kept eating berries. He needed blood. Fresh blood from the small animals. He crawled closer to the rodent but as soon as he was near it, the squirrel ran up the tree. And it did not even look back! Kalvin was furious. He was hungry. He did not understand how the small animal sensed him. It was at this moment that a soft scent of sweet grass and lavender was brought to him by the wind from behind him. A very pleasant perfume to smell. The wind!, the fawn-bat realized. The wind brought my scent to the squirrel! This new knowledge would prove to be useful for his next hunt as he approached another squirrel nearby. This time, the rodent was facing the opposite direction and thus would not be able to smell his scent. Carefully, the child came closer just like with his previous prey, and while he was sufficiently near it, he leaped on it. The animal did not have enough time to react, Kalvin already sticked his fangs into its flesh, sucking its blood. Empty, he dropped the corpse and put it aside as a meal for any carnivore before walking away.

Back to the Old Oak that he considered now as his new home, he sat against the wall, at the left of the entrance and watched outside. The bird were chirping, some creatures were at the Pond and at the River, and Kalvin was proud of his first catch.

For a little while, the young

For a little while, the young feathered one had been silently pecking and nibbling at the flowers she had found brief comfort in. Now, with her belly pains numbed, her legs were itching for movement. Slightly shakily, she sprung up into a standing position and shook her feathers free of dirt, though a few petals remained clinging to her soft baby-feathers. Before she could begin trotting further through the forest, however, she suddenly caught a strange scent, an unfamiliar smell in the air. She couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose at it, but something about it also caused her heart to pick up its pace, and her knees to stiffen, as if in preparation for flight. Even so, her mind whimpered to her in curiosity. She had to see where it was coming from!

Shaking off the strange sensation in her knees, the young one made her way forward. The smell was stronger; her ears shifted and swerved, and yet she could not hear anything new. Suddenly, her hoof squished against something soft-- unusually so. It was not soft like the grass or flowers, or like the soil after rain. She looked downwards, and her feathers puffed out all around her as a shiver went down her spine at the sight. She had seen these small, fluffy creatures scurrying about through the forest, playing together in the trees...but this one was still, cold, and unmoving. It was an empty shell of something once beautiful and lively.

Her first encounter with death…

She did not fully understand it then, but she could feel the bone-chilling reality of it.

She took a leap back; a panicked chirp flying from her lips as she sprung forwards, away from that terrible sight and the cold, empty feeling she had gotten in her hooves. She stopped after a little while, panting; a slight whistle escaping the nostrils of her beak-like nose as she let herself stay still while her knees shook. Just as she was about to keep walking, her ears perked to a gentle sound; a hum, a song...and it was coming from the mammoth tree that stood in the near distance. Its music was calming, and gradually her legs ceased their fearful shivering enough for her to wander closer without the high chances of tripping over her dainty hooves.

Just then, she turns her head and notices something leaned against the tree's side. Tilting her head in curiosity, the feathered one approaches with her eyes widening slightly at the sight of them. She could tell this being was of her same age rank: a fawn, but there was something about his appearance that stood out as incredibly unique and intriguing to her. Her head tilted more as she examined him, letting a small, curious chirp escape her lips.

(I am sooo sorry for taking so long, and for the crappy writing XD and I don't mind the blood at all! At least it's for natural purposes and not for anything dark and demonic lol)

The fawn-bat watched young creatures playing at the Pond. One of them were hopping crazily and ended up in the water. Kalvin chuckled at that, he watched them laughing as their friend came back and shook themselves and ran away with the others, hopping, jumping and rearing up. As they became out of sight, the winged child sighed joyfully, imagining him playing with someone else. It would have been funny. Unfortunately, it would not be for today. Yet he did not lose hope. He missed his island and his clan. And as a matter of fact, the other clan as well! He wished someone familiar to him would finally find him or the reverse.

At this moment, the scent of sweet grass and lavender from earlier cam back, stronger. Kalvin heard a barely audible sound and spotted a tiny silhouette in the corner of his eyes and turned slightly the head to better see it. It was a small creature with a beak and was covered of feathers. A child? Surely. At least, it looked like so. He tried to not pay attention to it and turned the head back to the Pond, pretending he did not see them. It seemed inoffensive, but whatever it was, it was stranger to him.

The fawn tilted her head when

The fawn tilted her head when she noticed he did not keep his eye on her, or even speak a word. It was...strange. She had gotten the silent-treatment before from others she had come across in the Forest, although they had been in that state where they lay themselves down upon the ground with their eyes closed and their senses shut off. This fawn was surely awake, was he? She stepped closer, slowly, and let out another few chirps to attempt gaining his attention, tapping her little hoof against the ground for good measure. Tilting her head and awaiting his reply, she examined his unique appearance further; an impressed look on her features.

Kalvin desperately attempted

Kalvin desperately attempted to not pay attention to the little creature, trying to focus on something else. Yet he felt like they would never go away and after a minute or two, he sighed and eventually got up and faced the young one. He approached her to sniff her and bowed to her with an indifferent face. The fawn-bat examined her as well. She was rather cute, with her little beak as a nose and her grey eyes. But it did not mean that she was interesting him.

On his island, all the children, even from the other clan, always ignored him since he was just a little kid. As someone who did not know much about social rules, he thought it was natural. That he was born like that, like someone who did not deserve any attention from the others or that he was just too weird or useless. And so, loneliness became an entire part of his life. He hated when someone was minding him, looking at him or talking to him. And the feathered child was not an exception.

Birdie perked at the greeting, and she eagerly bowed in return. She moved to sniff him in return, though she paused as she noticed the expression on his face. Birdie tilted her head to the side, and her ears pulled back slightly.
“ ‘Was wrong?” She asked softly. She had lately begun to speak, with the aid of the forest gods, although she was still a ways away from being able to clearly communicate with others. Still, it was a start.

(I appologies for the wait and cruddy post, my muse is flickering a lot XD also, poor Kalvin D:)

Kalvin did not say a thing, he simply looked at the little feathered child, his brow a little furrowed at first but then back to normal as he stared at her, again with indifference. The fawn-bat pondered a way to make her leave, although her attention to him did not bother him much, as for now. The idea to test her came through his mind. Maybe she will be scared of me if I show her what I am, he thought.

Kalvin started to walk around the child, his head high, examining her to the single detail of her bird and deer body. He walked around her for no longer than one or two minutes before planting himself before her and after some seconds of silence, he abruptly opened his mouth wide, showing sharp vampire fangs, which were rather quite long for his age, while approaching fast his head. He was not really about to bite her, he was just faking it, it was only to threaten her and see how she would react. If she would rather go away out of fear or if she would stay there, whether she was too scared to move or that she was smart enough to see he was pretending, or just ignorant about the danger she could be in.

Birdie was confused by the circling. All she could do was stand there, staring dumbly at him as her head tilted to the side in confusion. Then the teeth came, and the swift approach. Instinctively, she chirped loudly at the sudden movement and sight. She had never seen fangs, before! Her feathers puffed out all around her, and she stumbled back a bit, only to pause and look at him, his fangs, his appearance. It had startled her at first, but there was also fascination in them, especially since it was a sight so new.
“Big teeths,” she commented with a nod, taking a step closer to get a better look at the vampire bat fawn’s sharp teeth.

The winged child closed his

The winged child closed his mouth raising his head back up. She was still there. The comment, however, made him chuckle soflty. He crouched to her level and poke gently her beak with his nose and sweetly smiled. "Haha, you are funny, little one." He replied. The feathered child's reaction got him to understand that she was new to the world and knew less than what he thought. The fascination in her look was just reinforcing this idea. She needed someone to guide her through the beginning of her life.

"I am Kalvin. What's your name, little one?" Kalvin asked. "You look cute." He then added.

Birdie felt a strange, warm

Birdie felt a strange, warm sensation rise from her chest to her cheeks when his nose booped her beak, and his compliment earned a bashful giggle out of the smaller fawn as she looked away, slightly. She had been called cute a few times by adults that passed by and saw her, but she had not quite received such a description of her from another fawn. Something about it was simply...different.

“I-I called Birdie, by Noa” she responded as she turned her storm-colored eyes back up to meet Kalvin’s. Noa...the fellow feathered child that had saved her from her first unpleasant experience with water, and had introduced her to preening so she could better take care of herself. What a pleasant first experience with a friend that had been, however. She smiled at the memory, but her mind was to be returned to the here and now. She took the time to absorb the new name that had just been introduced to her.
“Kalvin…” Birdie murmured, as if taste-testing it upon her tongue. She liked the way the name danced with her lips when it slipped from her.
“Kalvin good name, I like Kalvin!” She exclaimed joyfully.

"Birdie?" Kalvin's eyes

"Birdie?" Kalvin's eyes became wide. Then, he snickered. The name sounded stupid for his taste. Although he had no idea who was Noa. His snicker turned into a chuckle when the younger one said she liked his name. He spread his bat wings unintentionally, which made him wonder. "Hey, if you are part bird, it means you have wings, right?" Kalvin asked. Yet he remembered right after that she did not have wings as he noticed it while examining her, walking around her. "You don't have any, do you?, he said, a little upset. Well, that's okay, little one."

"Maybe you want to fly?" He smiled, waving his wings once while coming closer to 'Birdie'. "I don't know how to fly yet. But I can try."
