After finding the rose left by nix and finding out through a bit of digging that he was gone the doe has spiraled into a deep depression. She feels lost which already had been bothering her before this. She doesn't know what to believe anymore. So far her friend Riddick has helped lift her mood by building her a blanket fort and brought her decorations for her den.

"Games?" she questioned then

"Games?" she questioned then thought a while. Besides tag she wasn't entirely sure what would be a good game. "Um well...no..not really" she laughed feeling quite sheepish for having nothing fun to offer while they dried out in the sun.

Sage would shake his head and

Sage would shake his head and grinned. "Don't sweat it. I've got an idea." He would look about for a moment before saying, "You know what Truth or Dare is?"

TreeDancer's picture

She shook her head "I've

She shook her head "I've never heard of it no" she said following her head shake with a small tilt to the right.

"Well, the premise is pretty

"Well, the premise is pretty simple. You ask a person 'truth or dare' and depending on whether they chose truth or dare, you get to either ask them a question which they must respond to honestly or you get to dare them to do something." He smirked. "Up for the challenge?"

TreeDancer's picture

She laughed nervously after

She laughed nervously after hearing the description. "Oh goodness..." she laughed and nudged him. But it sounded fun and new so she figured why not. "Sure...I'll give it a go" she said wondering what sort of questions or dares he'd give her.

"It's not as bad as you

"It's not as bad as you think, unless you're playing with good friends who would love to exploit your inner most secrets. Fortunately for you we're probably not at that point yet." He grinned. "How 'bout you go first? Ask me, and make it good." He gave her an encouraging wink before he'd lean to the side, his front legs splayed out in front of him.

TreeDancer's picture

She laughed "Oh that is good

She laughed "Oh that is good then" she teased. At his urge for her to go first she smirked. "Alright...truth or dare" she said leaning to one side so she could face him more easily.

He smacked his lips, thinking

He smacked his lips, thinking for a moment. "Mmmm... dare." Honestly, Sage was usually one to take the 'lame' option and normally went with truth. This time, however, he was feeling daring and wondered what the doe would come up with.

TreeDancer's picture

She laughed then took a

She laughed then took a moment to think. She did not know him well so very embarrasing dares were out of the question. "I..dare you to cover your antlers in blossoms and wear them all day...you have to tell everyone you meet that you're a pretty stag before continuing your conversations" she giggled like a school girl finding the game silly, childish and already very fun.

Sage's mouth gaped in

Sage's mouth gaped in amazement. "Wow." He raised his head proudly, however. “Well played, well played. In that case, excuse me for a moment.” With a grunt, the stag would lift himself to his hooves and quickly trotted down the side of the river until he neared the Crying Idol-- known for its flowers. He would pause for a moment before lowering his rack and wrapping several stems around them, all with blossoms at the ends. Once he was glamoured up he reluctantly strode back to Eloa's side and plopped down. He'd snort, though his eyes were bright and content. He could act like a grump all he wanted, but he was still enjoying himself regardless. “Truth or dare.

TreeDancer's picture

She giggled at the sight,

She giggled at the sight, such a large stag with so many pretty flowers. She could only imagine how things would go when he told other deer how pretty he was. Her giggles continued when he asked her in turn. She was a little nervous about the dares and so she decided to go with the equally anxious choice of truth. "Truth..."she said softly, her breath held with nervousness and anticipation at what he'd ask. Despite it being a game, Eloa always wanted to play fair which meant playing by the rules. Well, when the other was doing so at least.

Sage would pucker his lips,

Sage would pucker his lips, thinking over his question. "Mm... Tell me five things you dislike about me," he'd finish. He gave a smirk, his eyes flashing. He wasn't one to take things to heart, or at least he wouldn't make it obvious if he did. However, he figured this might be interesting to hear. You live and learn, after all.

TreeDancer's picture

She was rather surprised at

She was rather surprised at the question. Not to mention Eloa, being the kind of doe she was, found it very difficult to answer. "Um...well..."her ears went flat and she looked away trying to figure it out. Of course she didn't know him long enough to really form a solid opinion on what was good or bad about him. "I'm not sure I have five things..or one..."she laughed but she had to answer and so she went for it. "You're far too big" she teased. Of course it was not a bad thing at all but she had to answer something. "You are far too friendly, your singing is almost better than mine" she is giggling by this point, not taking it too seriously, "You have a lovely white pelt and are FAR too nice" she ended on a heavy teasing note before erupting into giggles. "I'm sorry..I really couldn't think of anything I dislike..at this point at least" she snickered. "Alright...Truth or dare.." she asked, settling into her spot again, ears forward.

The stag would give a casual

The stag would give a casual nod after every 'thing' she listed off. “I'll make sure to lose a few inches then,” he teased. At hearing her burst into a giggle fit, he couldn't help but grin. “Mm. Truth, why not.” He'd blow a blossom out of his face before he'd fixate his gaze on the doe again, almost oblivious to the fact that his pelt was almost completely dry again--of course he has quite a coat on him so this was a surprise.

TreeDancer's picture

She laughed and poked at him

She laughed and poked at him with her small hoof. Thinking up a good truth question was just as hard as a dare. She tossed a few ideas about in her head and even shifted position several times before she spoke again. "Ok...I'm going to be mean and unoriginal..and ask you the same thing..what five things do you dislike about me" she said with a mischievous grin. It only occurred to her that her smugness could come across as vain, as if she were perfect and her grin dropped and returned to a gentle smile.

He made a pop noise with his

He made a pop noise with his mouth at hearing her words. “Well, for one,” he'd start, gently booping her nose with his hoof, “you're unoriginal.” He gave her a wink as he said this, however he would need several heartbeats in order to think up other negatives about the dainty doe. Being such softy he is, he didn't want to somehow hurt her feelings, but he had to stick to the rules. Oof. “You've traveled to other realms.” He paused. “You got your skull mask wayyyy before I did.” Another pause. Oof, he only had three down. “You've got quite a collection of things, from what I've heard.” His voice slowly faded off, and he'd open his mouth for a moment as he finalized his thoughts. “I feel like you.. doubt yourself. And you shouldn't.” He'd look at her, glanced away, and then back. “Most of those were me just being salty. Most of them.” He'd clear his throat before asking, “Truth or dare?

TreeDancer's picture

She laughed as he booped her

She laughed as he booped her nose and his first choice caused her to stick her tongue out. Well she did get her unoriginal ideas from him so....she wasn't entirely to blame. The others were just as funny and she laughed at each till he reached the last one. Her expression was serious but questioning as she looked up at him. Did she doubt herself. Perhaps sometimes, yes, she would agree to that. When it came time again to pick either truth or dare the doe decided to go with something exciting. Truth seems to get a bit....deep. "Dare" she said taking in a deep breath, preparing herself for anything.

Sage nodded. “Dare, okay...”

Sage nodded. “Dare, okay...” He let out some vaguely audible 'hmmm's and 'mmmm's before he'd pucker his lips with a smile. “I dare you to speak in an accent for the next three rounds.” He gave her a winking, hoping this would lighten the mood as it seemed the last few rounds had gotten surprisingly sentimental. Were they ready for that? He didn't mind it too much, but he was going to keep her comfort in mind.

TreeDancer's picture

She laughed and tried to

She laughed and tried to think on what kind of accent she could use. There were many she heard but her favorite by far was the Irish accent she heard while on her travels. "Alright then its a deal" she laughed, speaking the accent fluently. While she did not have her magic to adapt to languages, the doe was naturally gifted at molding to different cultures. "Its your turn then, truth or dare" she smirked.

He blinked, rather impressed.

He blinked, rather impressed. Seemed she was prepare this time. “Not bad,” he huffed light-heartedly. “Mm. Truth, I s'pose.” He wanted to see what she had in store before he would take on any more potentially 'embarrassing' dares, like the one he was carrying out at the moment.

TreeDancer's picture

She took a moment to think,

She took a moment to think, feeling a bit more comfortable with the game having played a few rounds. "If you could have one thing right now this instant what would it be and why" she said thinking it was both a tough question as well as fairly unique.

Sage pondered for almost a

Sage pondered for almost a minute on this question. “Confidence.” He literally couldn't think of anything else he'd wanted more in his lifetime that this. “I've always been a bit... self-conscious. If I could have anything right now, at this moment, it would be for me to have complete confidence in myself.” He smacked his lips, satisfied with his answer. Giving Eloa a grin, he asked, “Truth or dare?

TreeDancer's picture

She was shocked by his

She was shocked by his answer. "Really? You seem very confident to me" she said tilting her head to one side. If he truely wasn't, the what did confidence really look like she wondered. "Truth" she said without hesitation, she was in the middle of her last dare so she didn't want to lump on on top of that.

Her words reassured him.

Her words reassured him. "What do most of your friends think about you that is totally untrue?"" From what he could tell, Eloa was a kind, young and pretty doe. He was already discovering how playful and mischevious she could be, though, so the idea that she may not be what she seems was interesting to him.

TreeDancer's picture

She didn't have to think long

She didn't have to think long on this one but she also didn't want to frighten the other away. She was loving their interactions and would hate to lose him as a friend. "I think...most thing I'm quite naive and innocent...and while it is mostly true as that is how I arrived...it is not so true now. There is a side to me most don't know of...and well..its not bad.." she got defensive, wanting to make that point "Its just...different" she laughed , keeping that irish accent mind you.
She tapped her hooves a bit before leaning on the other. "Perhaps..we could stop there for now..I'm rather tired" she said looking up at him.
--

Her response intrigued him.

Her response intrigued him. His ears perked, half-hoping she'd continue, but at hearing her final words he brushed aside his curiosity and nodded. "Oh yeah, that's fine." He'd grin, adding, "You can quit the accent now, if you want." He'd chuckle, giving the doe a smile before he would let out a breath through his nostrils. "So, were you planning on heading back to the Bowl then? Or..?" He was unsure whether she'd meant she would be leaving or not, but he hoped that wasn't the case. He didn't want to think of himself as selfish, but he had greatly enjoyed her presence for the past few days, there was no arguing that.

TreeDancer's picture

She had closed her eyes and

She had closed her eyes and her head fell against his larger form. She'd been a little more tired than she thought, it having been a busy morning after all. She had not heard the last of his question as she'd already slipped off into a light sleep.

The stag blinked in surprise.

The stag blinked in surprise. “Oh..” he murmured to himself, slightly shifting in place so that he was able to rest his own head on the warm soil. Eloa's head fell against his shoulder, and he'd refrain from moving too much as to not disturb her. He smiled to himself, realizing he was feeling a bit drowsy himself. He closed his eyes and listened to the doe's breathing, as it was the only thing he could hear apart from the distant chirping of songbirds in the sunlit trees. Not long after, he fell into a light sleep.

It had been a couple of days since the last time he'd seen the mule doe. Admittedly he had gotten into the habit of taking morning walks himself to see if he happened to spot her. Of course, this was in vain. He decided it couldn't hurt to pay a visit, because if she was anywhere it would most likely be her den. The white stag would set off toward the Bowl, a small bag tied around his left antler. It carried something inside, which made a slightly 'tinking' noise.

Eventually he reached the edge of the Bowl, and carefully making his way around the rim of it he would try and pin-point the doe's den (because he obviously forgot the exact spot). After he'd done a few rounds and still couldn't pick up a definite scent through the snowfall, he'd call out quietly, "Eloa?"

TreeDancer's picture

Eloa gave no answer even

Eloa gave no answer even though she heard him. She was in her den, watching over her child Rhistel as he lay nestled in hay and a large scarf Nilo had given her to wrap him in. He looked so peaceful but no matter what she tried he would not wake. "Rissy please...please wake up" she'd beg softly, nuzzling the small adult but all in vain. She shook, watching him a moment before she burst out of her den to walk away a few feet, head lowered as she let out deep sobs. Even though he was asleep she didn't want him to see her crying. She had to be strong. But it was hard. The doe had never dealt with loss. With death before and though Rissy wasn't dead yet the doe was terrified it may come to that eventually. Her body shook and she found herself collapsing to the earth. Her tears only growing more heavy.

Luckily enough, Sage wasn't

Luckily enough, Sage wasn't too far from the actual entrance to Eloa's den. He heard her cries but took a few moments before realizing it was her. The white stag was uncertain if this was a good time, but he wasn't about to just walk away. He'd seek out the noise, eventually finding a familiar figure lying on the soil, snow falling across her coat. "Prim...?" he'd ask, almost in shock. Up until this point he'd never even considered what she looked like crying; it was such a degrading feeling, and he felt his throat tighten at the sight. He quickly trotted over, lowering his neck so that he was able to look down at her closely. "Prim, what happened?" he asked, almost a little too ignorantly. He'd move his body so that the snow would cease to land on her but instead on him.

TreeDancer's picture

She sobbed heavily for a

She sobbed heavily for a moment, not heeding the other's voice. It wasn't till his head was closer that she turned her tear filled eyes up at him. She didn't even notice the snow falling silently about them. "My son..Rhistel..I found him..he's asleep and he won't wake up...not dead but...asleep no mater..what..I try" she hiccuped and broke into deeper sobs. She lowered her head into the fine layer of snow on the earth, her entire body shaking with grief. "He's been so sad...so distant...and I've tried everything to help but he just kept slipping away and now...Im so scared Sage" she wailed. "I'm so scared of losing him!"

His eyes were swept up with

His eyes were swept up with concern. Her kid... he thought to himself. He fought with himself, unsure of how to respond to her. From the looks of it, he couldn't say much that would be reassuring but if anything the stag knew how to provide physical comfort. A good listener. He decided that first thing's first; he had to get her somewhere safer, warmer. "C'mon Prim, you can't be out here in the snow like this." He'd lower his head further, scooping her up with just his snout. He'd lift her to her legs, though he had to give her support to keep her upright. He could tell she was devastated, as he knew well what it looked like. He started to walk her toward her den, keeping his eyes on either her or the snow falling before them.

TreeDancer's picture

Her legs shook as she was

Her legs shook as she was made to stand and she looked up at him. "I don't care....i can't..he can't see me cry" she said stumbling in another direction, away from her den. "He can't...I'm his mother I have to be ...be strong" she said leaning on a nearby sapling. Yeah, that was a joke. She wondered if she'd ever really been truly strong or had she just been going through the motions of what she'd seen the angels do when she was in heaven.

"And crying makes you weak?"

"And crying makes you weak?" He frowned gently, eyes soft as he followed her. He'd keep to her side, ignoring the jingling of the bag that was still strapped to his antler. "Prim, please." He'd give her about a foot of space, watching her patiently.

TreeDancer's picture

She was shaking violently and

She was shaking violently and didn't respond to his questions. She was weak, she knew she was. For the years she'd been in the forest she'd made nothing but friends. The doe really had not had something like this before happen to her. There were scares, yes but nothing like this.

The white stag sighed softly.

The white stag sighed softly. At seeing her so shaken up, he was rendered quite useless. "C'mon. You should take a walk. Get some air..." he decided. In the past, during some of his brother's breakdowns, the two would take walks to ease their nerves. Getting out and about tends to ease Sage's stress, and he hoped that maybe it would help Eloa as well. He had no idea what she might be going through, but from what she told him it sounded a bit like... a coma? He wasn't sure if that was the right term for it, but he was familiar with the strange sleep-like state she spoke of. Not personally, but through story. He walked up beside her, nudged her, kept her stable.

TreeDancer's picture

Eloa glanced at the den and

Eloa glanced at the den and moved towards it slipping inside to tuck Rissy in tighter before walking back out, eyes downcast. "Ok...maybe a walk is..a good idea" she said softly. She moved to be beside him and waited for him to continue on and lead the way.

The stag would wait for her

The stag would wait for her to re-emerge from the den, and once she had he led her up and away from the Blue Bowl, toward the Birch Forest. It was brighter and had a much more calming feel to it that the Old Forest did for the moment. He remained silent, knowing she probably wouldn't want to speak right away. He kept his face turned up, watching the forest in front of them although he could feel her at his side.
TreeDancer's picture

Her head was down as she

Her head was down as she walked and she lagged behind the large stag a few paces. The snow falling gave the forest an eerie quiet which added to her sadness.

The stag slowly lowered his

The stag slowly lowered his gaze, watching the ground. He had to say something. "How long's he been like this?" he asked, looking over his shoulder at her. His amber eyes shone in the shadowy forest, snow sinking into his pelt. As if it made a different, color-wise.

TreeDancer's picture

"I found him yesterday..."she

"I found him yesterday..."she responded slowly. The doe's voice was low and flat."He'll eat what i give him...but he won't wake up..."

"You mean you just.. found

"You mean you just.. found him like that?" He would look at her for a moment. "I don't reckon he was sick or somethin'?" Sage wasn't much of a medicine man, and for the most part he had very little knowledge of healing. Yet, to hear that even Eloa didn't know what to do, it gave him insight into how strange the boy's condition must be. He could only imagine how distressed that must make her feel, especially since he knows she wishes she had her magic. "I'm sorry, Primrose."

TreeDancer's picture

"I think he was sad..."she

"I think he was sad..."she said stopping. Her eyes were not focused on anything in particular. "I should have seen it sooner...how could I have been so stupid" she said clenching her teeth and kicking hard at a tree nearby with her hind leg.

"Hey," he said sternly,

"Hey," he said sternly, thought only to get her attention, "how were you to know this would happen. You can't really predict things like this." He sighed, approaching her again. "A few years ago my brother told me about something he learned from his friend, who'd been to the human world once or twice before. They called it a coma." He paused, looking at her to see if she was at all familiar with the term.
