hello! im new to the endless forest and have been playing for about a week or so, and though its a very lo-fi (dare i say outdated) game, im really intrigued by it. i still have some questions about the game though-- there's no plot, right? what draws you guys to the game? does abiogenesis happen anymore, and what happened at past abiogenesis? were any of you guys there to experience it? and is there anyway to make the game faster, or is the lagginess a product of its time?
id love to hear from you guys, i havent been so invested in a game like this in years and id love to learn more.

There's a handful of us oldies still around, I started back in 2008 but did have a long break for a few years so I haven't been here constantly all that time. I think our oldest resident is Vala who's been active since 2006 (also resident cinnamon roll).
There's no plot, but 99.9% of activity ingame is rp based (usually on Discord) and players do have their little or sometimes big player made plots for said characters to get involved in. But there hasn't been a big plot for a few years. I think it's more character family drama these days. And I think that's also what keeps most of us here; creating characters and playing out their bonds with others. IC drama keeps people invested, it's like a long running soap opera.
Abios still happen, though these days rarely and unannounced, they generally happen around major holidays where the two devs/admins will jump in for a little while and put on a show with a pile of ingame effects and weather changes. Sometimes they may pop in for a minute or two
They used to have planned abios way back in the day, but they stopped doing them because people would just overload the server with a good 100 or so on, and it'd be a massive lagfest. TEF's servers are basically toasters and just couldn't handle it. When it would work they'd run around for I think a good hour or so? I can't really remember
also it'd be at like 5am my time.Also that said abios themselves haven't really changed since then, it's all the same effects and such. But don't get me wrong it's still fun to see.
Also TEF does not like newer machines and there are a few ways to make it happier, you can try going into the options and turning off blinking.

Changing your site avatar is currently broken.
And changing your display name is also broken...ish. If you want to make comments (posts are fine) and replies etc for some reason the site hates it if your account name doesnt match your display name.
