It was raining the day she left.
Her hoof prints in the fresh mud had quickly been washed away with in mere minute’s leaving no sign of where the doe had been or where she was going.
It could be said that she had simply searched for shelter from the cold rain, or that the young doe had hidden herself away to die in some hole deep within the forest.
It was uncertain though. The only one who would know the truth was Night Shade herself.
Instinct had made her driven to hide away. It was true that she had picked a place to nest in advance, but that spot proved unsatisfactory after a time.
Too many knew about it and by instinct, Night wished to be alone and secretive.
Reason however told her she was stupid to have left. She was in poor condition, far too poor to birth a fawn on her own.
She knew she needed help, but the need to hide had over powered her since of reason and perhaps there was more to it than that, just a day before she had a discussion with her adoptive mother Emmy.
A cloud had lingered over them the whole time they spoke and Night knew why. She was tired, sick and weak. Death lurked in the corner of her eyes at all times and loomed over her like a shadow.
Death was a possibility that was becoming all too real to the doe and she didn’t want those who cared about her to see her die.She was too proud
They could find out later, if her remains were stumbled upon one day, or they could go on living with the fact that she vanished and cling to the hope that she would return one day.
Nature has a way of being cruel. Night had all the help she needed to live, but nature would not have it that way.
She was a weak link in the chain and to Mother Nature, deserved the fate she had been dealt. It was for this reason that instinct would betray her and there was nothing that could be done…
Unless she was found…
She rested her head on the hard ground and watched the rain fall from the sky from her underground hide out.
Her ears would flick at every little sound. Darkness covered her like a blanket.
The only light that could be seen was though a small hole at the mouth of the tunnel.
The doe closed her tired eyes and slept soundly for several hours, until a sharp pain in her side caused her to stir.
She grunted and shifted her weight around, grinding her teeth together like chalk on a chalk board until the pain subsided.
It would not be long now. The fawn could come at any time.
A tear ran down her face and she looked longingly up at the dimly lit entrance.
She wanted to run out, but she could not move. Her strength was gone. Her fate was out of her grasp now.
She had only one hope..
She let out one small pleading whimper.
”I’m sorry..please..find me..”
She really didn’t want to die..or at least not alone…she had been stupid to leave
My crappy explanation for why Night went missing
The big cow also moved to
I also have the strength to carry her, if you require the assistance. If you will allow it little one, I can help your mate position you in such a way as to not hurt you as he carries.
She glanced at the big stag, assessing him.
Your horns should be wide enough to carry her on...I think that is the only way that it can be done without pain for her. It will not be comfortable, but it will be safe.
She didn’t reply. Her eyes
She continued to shift around.
The conversation above her falling on deaf ears.
The only thing she could hear was her own hammering heart beat.
She was becoming increasingly stressed that she couldn’t do the things that she felt she needed to do.
She couldn’t pace she couldn’t continue to fuss over a nest, nothing.
Her time was growing ever closer. It was time to start worrying now. The short moment of relaxation has been just that..short
*paces* ;_;
Asaroth watched her closely,
"There is no time to get her upon my back.. I will be careful with her do not worry." He glanced at the moose quietly before he gently grabbed onto the scruff of Night Shade's neck, lifting the smaller deer easily, beginning to walk quickly back toward her nest
He knew he would be able to make it with her, she was so light, and he had seen many animals carry their young like this. He was more worried that she would be hurt, or the fawn would be damaged if he did not get them down soon.
The big moose trotted quickly
Once they reached the nesting ground, the cow immediately flattened an area for the stag to set the little doe into, making it larger than necessary to accommodate for the fawn on its way.
Her eyes were closed tight
She wanted to will it all away.
She knew good and well that she didn’t have the power to stop the fawn from being born when it pleased, but it was still extremely early.
A month at the least…
She didn’t want this now.
The small doe shivered as she hung from her mates powerful jaws.
She couldn’t relax. Her whole body was tense.
Finally when she was sure they had stopped, she opened her eyes and was a little relieved to see her nest in front of her.
The brute lowered his head
He glanced over toward the moose as he stepped back and over to her, leaving Night to get settled
"The fawn is coming too early..." he whispered to her, looking over to his mate worried "You seem to know a lot about this... but I have to wonder.... how soon is too soon..?"
He turned his gaze on the moose once more, eyes narrowing "If you remain here, you swear you will not let her die. If you do, I will kill you." He watched her for a long moment more before he looked at Night, nuzzling he licked her head softly, rumbling with a light purr, going to retreat to his usual spot
((last post for me for the night guys! heading to bed <3))
The moose looked into the
I promise I will do whatever I can so that she does not die. She is early, but this is not unheard of. To be honest, I am more worried about her weakness, but I can help with that.
She glanced back at the doe, checking that she was still alright, and then turned back to the stag, stepping slightly closer, and lowering her voice for his ears alone.
Your mate is strong in spirit, but weak in body. You must promise to not interfere, no matter how she cries out. You may comfort her, but if either one of us asks you to step back, please do so. I understand that you are worried, but cannot show that to her, but I am a friend, and I would appreciate not being threatened. I will protect her with my own life, I do not need your intimidation to do that.
There was no menace in her voice, merely a tired resolve, and with those words she bowed her head to the stag in respect, and moved toward the little doe, curling her body on the ground beside her, giving her comfort until the moment came for action.

i'm off to bed
Oh my, this blog all of a
Illrose had followed the others silently back to the nest, and while the moose and Night's mate was talking to each other, she stood protective next to Night, with a
worried look on her face. Night had to survive this. Illrose wouldn't allow anything else.
(yes, a lot of
Threats and menacing growl were never a reason for her to just run away. Untill someone will chase her directly away she will not leave her lurking spot.
At least, now she knew that Night Shade was there when she saw her mate carrying her away. After a short while, when she was sure everybody has already left this place, Foxbrow stood up.
"I knew he would spoil it somehow."
She looked over the place where they were standing, sniffed around the hole and then, once again with an easy hand gallop she went the way they have left.
Night hardly noticed when the
She was too busy nosing around roughly at the grass in front of her, snapping at the pushed down blades, and pushing small stones around obsessively.
”I do not want this here…or this…or that…WHY is this here!”
She looked suddenly very angry. Her fur bristled and her tail swished furiously from side to side.
”I leave for a day at the most and this place is a mess. It’s ALL wrong!”.
It was exactly as she had left it, but it would be hard to convince her of that fact.
((Asaroth is just laying over
Illrose calmly sat down next
she just let her fix the nest on her own, making it the way she wanted it to be.
Night Stopped fussing with
To anyone watching it would appear that she was relaxing, but the truth was she was trying her best to think about anything other than the contractions that were slowly getting closer and closer together.
Night could take a lot of pain but it was becoming unbearable even for her.
The first time hadn’t been as painful, or maybe she had just erased that memory and convinced herself that it was better then.
Everything always sounded better after the fact. She did know that it seemed to be going faster this time..
The doe didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing, but it didn’t matter. She would find out soon enough, she guessed.
Another contraction hit her and she screamed out for the first time. The pain was blinding. She couldn’t sit and deal with it silently any longer.
The small doe groaned and rolled on to her side, panting frantically.
She was starting to panic
At the bark of alarm from
Now is the most crucial time my dear. I know it hurts, but you have done this before, you can handle it. Do not block out the pain, accept that it is there, and deal with it as a messenger from your body. It is not something to fear. The pain will tell you if there is something you need to be concerned about, a note of pain that does not seem right. If that happens, you must tell me immediately.
She nuzzled the little doe's ears, trying to reassure her, and then stood to move around and have better access when the time came. She lowered her head to the doe, and spoke, warning her.
My dear, I need to push against your belly gently to determine whether the fawn is correctly positioned. It may hurt a little, but I promise I will be as gentle as I can be.
She gently pushed her nose along the doe's belly, feeling for the fawn, and where it's legs lay. She thought that it seemed normal, although her little friend was so thin that her bones could be distorting the shape inside her. The moose sighed heavily, and glanced first at the doe's face, creased in pain, and at her mate nearby. This was going to be hard, and she would need all of her knowledge to help the little thing.
As the moose pressed her
Her eyes were misted over with pain as she lay there writhing.
Her tongue dangled from her open mouth as she panted.
True labor had only just started and the doe was already extremely exhausted.
She sucked in a few deep breaths of air and pushed with all the strength she could gather.
”I…can’t do this. I can’t!.” She yelled frantically, starting to thrash.
It felt like she was being stabbed and crushed all at one time.
Things were happing way too fast for her and she didn’t have much time to gather strength after each hard contraction.
The doe let out another loud yelp that ended almost in a snarling sound and suddlenly she grew silent, shaking all over, as she felt a warmth on her flanks
. Her water had broken. There was no turning back.
Asaroth's head lifted,
He was ready to give her strength if she needed it, allow her to draw upon his own life force to keep her strong. He slowly pushed himself up, moving over toward her a little ways before he stopped, watching the moose and his mate again.
He growled very lightly, head lowering a tiny bit as he watched them, tail flicking a tiny bit
The cow jerked her head back
I am so sorry my dear! I did not mean to hurt you!
As she apologized, the moose felt warmth against her hoof, and looked down to see that the ground was slick with blood and fluids. The labour had begun, whether they were ready or not.
Despite the ground, the moose lowered herself down beside the doe, lifting her tail both out of the mess, and out of the way, draping it in the grass nearby. She peered to see how far along the doe was, but her dark, wet fur made it difficult to see. She gently licked along the doe's flanks, trying to calm her tense muscles.
Dearest, simply listen to your body. Even if it hurts, you must not try to force the little one out, just let it arrive at its own pace. I am here to help you, you need not fear.
She turned her head to the stag standing nearby.
I cannot do everything at once, she needs you as well. Be there, near her head, and comfort her, give her strength. I will do my best in this area, but I cannot both reassure and work once things start going. Please, comfort your mate!
Illrose jumped to her feet
background while the moose examined Night. She had been through a birth of her own, but it was even worse witnessing a friend giving birth. What if Night didn't make it?
No. She simply had to. Illrose was not ready to lose another friend. She took a deep breath, before she carefully walked closer.
"Is there something I can do?" She asked the moose.
The little doe was terribly
She wanted it all to just go away.
Again and again she would push straining and crying out loudly.
She could not gain control and relax.
Her face was stained with tears and eyes so blurred that she could hardly see.
The doe braced herself, digging her hoofs into the soft earth and pushed with all she had, and still no sign of a fawn came.
Her head dropped to the ground, as she gasped for breath.
She had never been so upset and frightened in her life.
Asaroth!” She screamed in almost a roar.
”ASAROTH! Where are you?” The doe sobbed loudly, wanting her mate.
He whinned, he didn't want to
"Here. I'm here. Don't worry." He sighed lightly and sniffed over her head, beginning to groom her cheek and head, rumbling wtih a purr
The moose looked up at the
Just try to keep her comforted, and if necessary, help hold her steady.
The cow was worried. Though she could see Night pushing, the fawn was barely showing, and the moose could only hope that it didn't mean the fawn was stuck. She would give it another few moments, but time was not on their side, and she had to decide quickly what to do in order to save both fawn and mother.
Night clung to her mate
She tried to focus on him, more so than the urge to push.
The doe knew she had to save what strength she could because the next push would be the last.
She would be to weak to try again.
Awful thoughts were running through her head.
”What if it’s dead? What if it doesn’t come this time…What if it had to be ripped out some how?”
All of her worst fears were starting to become more and more of a possibility as the time dragged by.
Finally she pressed her head against her mates chest and grunted loudly as she gave one last hard push.
This time it produced two tiny hooves and a nose, but Night was done. She hadn’t the strength to try anymore.
She had fainted.
Asaroth looked down toward
"Do not force me to cut this fawn out of you!" He knew he could easily do it if he had to.. but he was uncertain he would actually be able to change back if he forced himself to morph.
His gaze flicked down to the moose, eyes wide and panicy, willing her to do something to save his mate and fawn
The big moose saw two things
Before anything else, she used her tongue and lips to quickly remove the birth sac from around the tiny nostrils, and saw that most importantly, the fawn drew breath in, the muzzle quivering in the air. The fawn was alive at least, and would last a few more moments without help.
Sharply, she turned her head to the other doe nearby, looking to help.
Now is your time my dear! If you want to help your friend, I need you to find a certain plant. It has small pointed leaves, like tiny stars, and a very distinctive smell, sharp and pungent. It should be found at the base of a tree, particularly a tree with mushrooms growing on it. When you have found the plant, bring it back here and crush it in front of your friend's nose. It will hopefully bring her out of her faint. Go quickly!
With that, the cow turned her attention to the little fawn. It was still breathing in, but there was so little of it exposed that it would require a lot of delicacy to release the fawn. She gently wrapped her lips around both tiny hooves, tasting the metallic tang of blood and grimacing, and began gently pulling at the fawn, trying to draw it out into the air.
At the moose's words, she
when Night fainted, with the fawn still inside. She blinked, before turning her head to the other doe, listening carefully.
"Right." She murmured, before she took off in a hurry, leaving the surroundings in a blur around her. She had to run back to the First Forest, where she more likely would find
any trees with mushrooms. She almost ran down several strangers while she ran, but she didn't brake, she only bellowed at them to get them out of her way.
((Asaroth is just laying
As the doe ran off, the moose
At last the fawn's head came clear, although it did not give the customary bleat of greeting to the world. She continued pulling until the chest was also clear, and then paused, breathless, glancing to the doe and scared by what she saw.
Planting her hooves, the cow began pulling the fawn until at last, with a final tug, the entire body was free.
She stepped back, mumbling something to Asaroth about the fawn, and then, her world spinning and blurring, sat down with a thud.
Celeste was one of the deer
"Illrose...What...?" she said under her breath, racing to catch up with her, trimming her wings and leaping up into the sky.
(Rofl was watching all this and finally decided to bump Celeste back in)
"Now that your bitching has

She didn't noticed Celeste as
"Star shaped leaves...there!" She bent down and grabbed a mouthful of the plants, ignoring the sharp smell that hit her nostrils. She then raced back to Night's nest, only to see that the fawn
was out, but Night was still unconscious. Illrose dropped the plants in front of Night's nose, before she stomped on them several times, crushed them beneath her hooves.
Celeste watched Illrose stop
Night...
She immediately sniffed her friend to see if she was okay.
Asaroth glanced toward the
Slowly lowering his face to the tiny fawn, very small. It seemed to be breathing and so he slowly started running his tongue over it's face, clearing the airways, eyes and ears. He slowly moved down along the body, trembling as he cleaned the fawn.
"Girl.. it's a girl" he whispered and glanced toward Night "Night Shade.. she's a girl" he whispered, pride swelling as he looked back to the fawn.
He snorted lightly, continuing to clean off his newborn daughter
The cow sat to the side of
The sharp tang of the plant she sent the other doe to get reached her nose, and it brought her back to reality with an aching head and body. She still did not have the strength to stand, but she shifted herself to not be in the way of the urgent bodies. She couldn't see if the plants had awoken the little doe or not, and strained her neck trying to catch a glimpse.

And that fawn is so adorable. o_o <33
Illrose bent down and gave Night a light nuzzle.
"Wake up, now. You have given birth to a little girl." She said in a low tone, barely a whisper. She then gave a nod in Celeste's direction, as if to greet her, before she
sat down next to Night, playing with her black fur, waiting for the plants to take effect so her friend could wake up and take care of the newborn.
Alright, have to go to bed now. x)
Through the milling bodies,
Before laying her head into the grass for some needed rest, she softly called out to it.
Welcome to this world little one. You are loved!
