Rhys closed his eyes tighter and tried to ignore the whining voice in his ear. It wasn't the words, no, only the tone. Young fawns all seemed to have that high pitched shrill voice. It was most likely some sort of natural mechanism to be better heard in times of distress, but in this instance it was just bothersome.
He rolled over and grunted in frustration as tiny hooves danced on his side.
"Yes child? To what do I owe this interruption?" Amazon grinned and sat down on the overweight deer's side. "Gotta question for ya"
Rhys grumbled under his breath and furrowed his brow. " 42, He considers it his throne, I'm just big boned, He jumps high, We don't know who built it, you run at the water then keep jumping, you can't do that until you're older, no I don't know when that will be, an egg, a swordfish, Why don't you ask her yourself, They're flowers not blueberries." He have a cocky smile and laid his head back down. That'll shut her up.
Amazon blinked a few times before placed a hoof on the back of Rhy's head and pushing it roughly into the dirt. "That's nice, but none of those answered my question...I think."
She twisted her hoof and applied more pressure as she continued. "See that little deer over there in the ruins?"
Rhys grunted and spit a few times to get the dirt out of his mouth. "No. Because you're on my head."
"Baby." The young fawn removed her front legs and craned her head around his towards the ruins. "The little one, over there.
Rhys raised his head and shook it briskly to dislodge the rest of the mud before following her gaze. "What about him?" The young doe was craning her head to stare intently at Finata.
"Whys he so grumpy lookin?"
Rhys could have told her the truth. He really could have and just sent her on her way.
Except...
She disturbed his nap and pushed his face into the dirt.
"Oh him? He eats little girls."
He faked a nervous smile and could barely hold back as self-satisfied smile as her look of curiosity turned to one of horror.
"NO!....Really?!"
Rhys lowered his voice and glanced around before continuing.
"Yeah. I heard he just snapped one day when one crossed his path. All they found was her poppy crown."
If her eyes were any bigger they might have popped out of her skull. "W-Why would he do that?" She kept her attention on the tiny deer craning his neck to pour excess candle wax on the smallest pagan idol statue.
Rhys thought back to the stories of his childhood and gave a sly smile. "Some say say he was born with a heart three sizes too small."
The small fawn pressed herself against his side and whispered back "Is that why his eyes bleed?"
Rhys cackled and glanced down at her with a serious look. "You think that is his blood, child?"
Amazon gave a quiet whimper and watched him closely. "A-and the candles?"
Rhys leaned down and conspiratorially lowered his voice. "You know angler fish? He attracts little girls with the light and then uses it to cook them!"
Her panicked squeaks were far too amusing, but not as amusing as how quickly she ran for the safety of Kaoori when the runt finally noticed his audience and trotted over to greet his godfather.
Rhys gave the mini deer a nuzzle and made space in his sunspot.
Finata stared after Amazon as he sat and glanced at Rhys questioningly. "What's with her?"
Rhys gave a broad yawn and rolled back on his side. "Hm? Oh. I told her that you eat little girls."
Finata blinked and laid his head down also. "Ah..okay
...
wait
WHAT?!"
Rhys grinned and pretended to be asleep. He ignored Finata's protests and the following commotion as the mini-deer desperately tried to chase down the female and clear his name. That'll teach the little bastards to disturb his sleep.
