One by one, he watched the others fall. He hid in the shadows of a dense jungle, taking quick, panicked breaths. Watching the others from his herd...watching what those flying monsters did to them...
The Achak had a nimble body, slender much like a wild dog, but had small, delicate feathers that lined his body. He had a snout much like an anteater, and similar to the Earthen species, his kind used their long tongues to lick out nectar from the otherworldly flowers on Ibuzon. He had four eyes in total - two large and two small, one of each on either side of his snout. His snout was lined with a few horns that was his species' only means of protection. He had paws much like a cockatiel or a chameleon, used to climb trees and stalks effectively.
But here on the ground, the feet did not help him survive. He was not fast, not even remotely fast as the Daog. The Achak peeked from underneath the massive leaves that covered him. They were still flying around, scanning the ground for him. They
knew he was there, they could smell him all too well. The Achak shuddered as he saw their bodies above - sleek, nimble, powerful. He had watched others of his kind become captured by the predators. He had to look away when they literally tore other Achaks apart, stuffing their capture into the belly pouch on their undersides.
He knew that they would find him sooner or later. Their species was far more superior to his in every possible way. What could he possibly do?
The Daog picked up the faintest detection of him, and a few landed into the jungle. They looked around, sniffing the air, hunting with every whiff of the Achak they picked up. Soon, they spread out, some going off away from their prey, others getting dangerously close to him. They didn't spot him, but they knew he was there. One by one, the Daog lifted off from the ground and flew above the canopy.
When the alien jungle was quiet once again, the Achak peeked out. No Daog flew in the sky. They must have called off their search for him. As the creature stepped out, he barely had time to react when two scaly feet landed on him. One of the Daog stayed behind, who had found him but didn't tell the others. The predator had gripped the bark from a nearby tree, waiting to easily spring onto her prey.
The Achak squealed out in terror and pain as the talons sank into his flesh. The Daog bent down, proudly inspecting her catch before digging her mantis-like forearms into the Achak's back. She relentlessly stabbed and cut into his spine, each moment making her prey grimace and howl in agony. The torture continued for a few quick moments until the Daog heard the Achak's spine snap.
The Achak quivered in shock for a few moments before his body rested. He was still very much alive, but his body was paralyzed and starting to lose feeling. He gasped and cried, the predator sinking her talons deep into his skin and flapping her wings. The Daog lifted from the air, carrying her broken prey to the sky. His body dangled as he was at the Daog's mercy. Within a few moments, his captor landed in a large tundra, placing him underneath her on the ground. Countless other Daog approached and watched as the victorious hunter spoke to them all.
"I found him - the very last Achak. Countless others have wanted to savor the moment of feasting on the last of any species, and here I will.", she communicated through telepathy to the others. The Achak could hear and understand her as well, but he did not have the right mouth to speak back to them. The Daog lifted him up and gripped him with her forelimbs, wrapping her wings tightly. She enjoyed every moment of making her prey suffer, squeezing him tightly onto her chest. He cried out in terrible pain, but there were none around that would come to his aid. The prey rested his head on her white belly, finding the last little bit of comfort he would ever have in his life. The Daog lowered her head and rubbed her cheek on his. "Farewell, your species ends here.", she spoke directly to him, and raising him up, the pouch on her belly devoured him.
He was pulled in, cringing, writhing just a little, his body burning as the acids within the Daog's stomach digested him. He closed his eyes, barely able to curl up, losing the last little bit of feeling in his body.
He finally let out one stifled breath, his body surrendering his life. The stomach of the Daog did not hesitate to absorb his body's nutrients, and once all that was left was his bones, she expelled them before the others. A small pile of bones were all the was left of him.
Another species fell before the Daog at that moment, but they would not realize that the over hunting of the other creatures on Ibuzon would soon lead to their own downfall.
Finished this one tonight.
*shudders* What a way to go.
Mhmm...the Daog as a species
