Hanging Flowers - Chapter 25

Skokey looked on as Fenqua turned around. Oh no, oh no! No, please, don't say... don't say that... that you... He let out a strained, quiet sigh. Just... just ask her what's wrong...

"Fen... What's wro-" He was cut off. Fenqua immediately turned around and put her lips to his. Skokey's ears twitched madly, his face turned the deepest red ever seen. But soon, he calmed down and closed his eyes, deciding to enjoy their first, long kiss.

They parted, and looked each other in the eyes. Beautiful hazel and shining blue interlocking in a stare that seemed to last forever. Fenqua was the first to snap out of it. "I love you too Skokey... A lot. I had been wanting to tell you for so long..."

Skokey smiled warmly, "It's okay, Fen, me too." He came over to her and held her to his chest. "Let's stay together forever..."

"Yeah... Let's do that..."

The two of them returned to the Playground late that night. Fulu was already asleep under the slab. She was waiting for them to return for hours, but sleep soon overcame her.

She was the first to wake up. She smiled when she saw her brother not too far away, but her eyes instantly widened. Fenqua was sleeping right next to him, their faces so close they were nearly touching.

"That's new..." She mumbled. She realized her mask was gone. She searched frantically, and saw something dark in the distance among the tall grass. Fulu bounced over to find her mask, and found another mask next to it. It was white and glossy, and seemed to be larger near the top.

Fulu studied the other mask, but something caught her eye which caused her to look up. Right infront of her was a maskless Zilant. Fulu instantly blushed and smiled "Hi..."

Zilant smiled back, "Hi. I was wondering when you'd get up."

Fulu giggled sheepishly, "I... I guess I slept in.."

"What's that over there?" Zilant craned his neck.

She turned her head. "Oh..." Her gaze shifted back to him, causing him to lower his head. "Skokey and Fenqua are extra close today. They never did that before..."

"I think something happened last night." Zilant smiled inquisitively.

"Yeah, maybe... Whatever happened, they both seem a lot happier. I wonder what they'll be like when they're awake..."

Zilant came close to her and nuzzled her lightly, making her blush. "Did... did you take my mask?"

"Oh..." Zilant smiled, embarrassed. "Let me put it back on." He lowered his head to take her mask. But when he put it on, Fulu looked confused.

"This isn't..." She was wearing his mask. She started to giggle, "Thank you..." Fulu lowered her head and put her mask on him.

"What do you want to do today?"

"Emm.. Let's start at the Pond, shall we?" Fulu started to trot away, letting Zilant follow her. They bounced away into the distance.

Skokey smiled, looking at the two from afar. "Look at that Fen..."

"Hmm?" She raised her head drowsily.

"I'm glad things have finally worked out. It seems like everyone's back to normal."

Fenqua smiled and leaned her head on his neck, just below his face. "Let's enjoy the peace while it lasts..."

It had been weeks since Skokey's confession. Skokey and Fenqua had never been happier. Together they seemed to tackle things more easily, and life was good. Word of their relationship had quickly spread, and soon it was a regular thing for Skokey and Fenqua to be together.

The sun was close to setting, but daylight was still bright. Skokey trotted up to Fenqua, who was standing on the bridge. They nuzzled, and had a little conversation. At one point, Skokey came to the subject he had been thinking about all day.

"Fen... I wanna ask you something. And please promise you'll think about it before you answer?"

"Of course, Skokey. What is it?"

***

It was late at night, a full moon, and a few weeks later. Skokey slept like a rock under the slab, but was soon poked awake by Fenqua.

Fulu hadn't been there for a long time. She had found her own place now, and so the slab was left to the two of them. Fenqua kept poking the stag until he rose his head sleepily. "Skokey..."

"What is it?..." He asked, eyes half closed.

"Can you go get me an apple?"

"An apple?" Skokey stared at her for a minute. "Okay... I might be a while."

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay, I'm fine with it." He smiled, it clearly visible in the bright moonlight. "I'll be right back."
He trotted away in the direction where they once found a small apple tree.

Skokey chuckled softly to himself. Crazy doe...

No silly, you don't have to wait for all those chapters! When I'll write the next one, you can write your epilogue, 'cause I'll continue after your story stops. ^^

Very sweet chapter, but I'm a little confused at some points... why the hell did Fenqua ask him to get her an apple? XD
