Nekumbra's Bio and
her Defenders List. Also here's
more info on Iugulare, Anirapio, and Nekumbra.
Anyone can participate in this roleplay, and there will be
rock hounds to fight as well, but please know your deer's limits. I don't want to see a single deer defeat five rock hounds at once, for example.
To recap - Nekumbra has decided not to eat any more fawns to befriend some of the Endless Forest deer. She ate grubs at first, but she didn't like the taste. Iugulare threatened to send Anirapio to eat her if she didn't get back to thinning out the deer's offspring. At first Nekumbra fell into temptation and ate three fawns, but then she had to regain the deer's trust. She finally learned to hunt squirrels and birds, and since then she has not eaten fawns since.
Iugulare and Anirapio visited Nekumbra again, and gave her three days to eat fawns or else they'd kill her.
Nekumbra has not eaten fawns for the past three days, and has asked for help defending her...
-------------------------------------------------------------------
She didn't go to her lair. She knew it would be a bad idea to stay there. She knew Iugulare's ways, she would not have survived the night.
Instead, Nekumbra spent the night closer to the Twin Gods' hill. She knew Iugulare would not approach the gods, and even though she was fearful of them as well. She didn't sleep much this night...
The morning came, and she quickly sought out her friends.
Iugulare and Anirapio will be here soon to collect my body. Knowing them, they'll bring some of those rock hounds too. I'd best be on my guard..., she thought...

So, today was the day. There
There was a sort of calm about the lamb, who sat now at the bank of the blue expanse that was the pond, above the place where her underwater burrow was. A limb draped over the edge, creating ripples.
Funny thing, ripples, how small they started, but oh how they grew!
First one, then two, then seven, twenty, forever overlapping.
She thought that maybe, everyone was a ripple. They started out small, alone, and then they grew, reaching out to other ripples in the surface of life's pond, helping others grow.
And the more you rippled and helped others grow, the more you grew.
Yes, that's what she thought.
The clouds reflected in the water danced away. Not unlike her, soft and slow moving.
She wasn't very strong, the little lamb. in fact, she was very weak. Very easily broken.
She would trip and skin her knees and cry for hours, baa, baa, forever it seemed.
Alone in the woods, she would curl into herself and cry into her lavender scented wool.
But those things were her. It was all her. She was not strong, not for herself.
The water rippled as she slid down into it. Returning with a strange skull. almost equine more than cervine in looks, and bigger than herself.
She settled it upon the ground. Staring at it.
She never was strong, not for herself, no.
But for her friends...
Her lips quivered as her canines elongated with a painful sounding crack limbs shuddering as they lengthened, skin splitting and falling away, wool left upon the ground.
Exposed muscle and tendon and bone was soon covered by a pelt of startling crimson, once mirror shard eyes a startling ruby, encased by lashes not unlike a spider's legs.
She was not She anymore. She was him. He who was strong. But not for himself.
His head dipped, slipping the skull atop his head, a perfect fit.
He set off towards the statues then, thick ropes of muscle sliding under fur.
The lavender lamb.
The crimson stag.
Two halves of the same being.
He, who was not strong for himself.
But for his friends.
He would run to any fight.
The spider doe watched her
She bowed and spoke, "Hello there, darling...let's hope Iugulare and Anirapio do not keep their word today...", though her voice was wavering. It was very, very obvious how worried she was.
"yes, let's" he offered a
"yes, let's"
he offered a smile behind the mask, tail flicking.
in reality he didn't like hope very much. In fact, he hated it. the crystal meth of emotions. It hooks you fast and kills you hard. It's bad news. The worst. It's sharp sticks and cherry bombs. When hope shows up, it's only a matter of time until someone gets hurt.
He didn't vocalize this opinion. but rather, tucked it away at the back of his mind. His pessimism wouldn't do any good today.
Instead he merely touched his nose to her forehead for a moment, a sign of trust and reassurance.
He smiled, standing close, but never touching.
(I was wondering, would it be
Dew drops glistened on Liam's golden coat as he trotted through the Forest, the warmth of the sun upon his back quickly evaporating them into his soft strands of fur. He breathed in deeply, savoring the scent of the new morning...and yet, he could not help but sense unease in the air as well. It was then that he remembered, his heart clenching in fear: Nekumbra was to be confronted by those who wished to harm her.
By chance, he happened to catch sight of her beside a cluster of trees upon a nearby hill, and ignoring his nervous mind protesting his actions he galloped up to her and stopped short when he was close. "Oh, Nekumbra..." he said, panting and giving a polite bow to both her and Un. "Are you...are you alright? Are they here?" He turned uneasily on his feet, surveying the area around them, his heart pounding in his chest. He did not know what creature that Nekumbra was up against, but he had to be strong for her. Be strong, you fool...
(Strength-wise, Liam has a healthy amount of muscle and could be able to take one Rock Hound at a time. When panicked, he becomes very powerful in a will to survive and protect, and concentrates all of his strength into ramming with his horns and stomping and kicking with his hooves.)
((Go right ahead! It'll be
Nekumbra bowed to her friend. "No, they're not here yet...I know their scent and it's nowhere close yet.", she replied.
This was a good sign to her. She knew that Iugulare, Anirapio, or the Rock Hounds were not close by. The infection had a pungent smell that she knew well. When they were close, she'd be the first to alert her friends.
Her nervousness subsided a little here. She had two strong deer by her side, but what if Iugulare brought her rock hounds...she shuddered at the thought...
And she knew Iugulare would bring the rock hounds...
Un-Matthieu shifted. It was
It was odd, the name. Both being correct. Though he did prefer one or the other depending on the form.
The fur along his body prickled, sharp as needles. Certainly anything that touched them would be picking it from their flesh for weeks.
His head turned slowly.
All was at peace. Such calm before a fight. Worse, maybe, than the fight itself.
(Awesome, thank you!
That same morning the old, grey stag named Ishibaba had spotted Liam trotting along, and he smiled to himself at the sight of the young buck. He had grown up so quickly in body, and yet he was still as fancy-free as a fawn. Although, Liam's insecurities did concern him... When Liam suddenly began to gallop in almost a distressed manner, Ishibaba felt uncertainty seize him. He then noticed Nekumbra atop of the hill, and remembered his pledge to her. Did Liam mean to harm her?
Ishibaba galloped after Liam, readying himself to shoo him away in case if there was a misunderstanding...but he was talking to Nekumbra, and looking around wildly as if he were afraid someone or something was to attack at any moment. It was then he remembered: Nekumbra was indeed in danger, but not from other deer. "Liam?" Ishibaba said in bewilderment, out of breath from his sudden sprint. The young buck regarded him with nervous eyes that were nevertheless lit up with anticipation. Could it be that Liam intended to fight for her...?
Turning to the spider-doe, Ishibaba bowed deeply and announced in his deep voice, "I will fight for you, Nekumbra. I have no desire to see you hurt, and wish to free you from your dark servitude."
(From now on, both responses will be put in the same post. :> )
Nekumbra was humbled to have
Then knowing as much as she did about her former allies, she spoke to the three of them, "Here is what I know...Iugulare generally lets her rock hounds fight for her. Most deer know about their powers now, but if not...", she went into detail about the rock hounds' colors and abilities here, "If Iugulare attacks, the best place to run would be the Twin Gods. She hates them and stays off of this hill as much as she can. Now Anirapio will attack from the sky. She prefers to swoop down and grab her prey. If she catches you, the best thing to do is bite into her skin, maybe in the shoulder or arm, as hard as you can. She should release you there, but she is very tough...", the spider doe spoke, not realizing how much of a leader she really sounded like from her words. "I'll make some web traps in the trees so maybe she'll get tangled."
She worked on this immediately, climbing the trees and building light webs that connected among the treetops. It would not be very strong, but she didn't want Anirapio to see them. The more invisible they were to the dragon, the better.
She looked terrified,
She seemed spidery with her eight legs, and perhaps that was indicitive of some darker behaviors, but then if she was so evil, she probably would not fear the deities, and that would also mean she would probably not come here. It was a curious scenario, the stag thought. He approached slowly, so as not to cause a panic in her, as perhaps it was simply that she was simply a nervous person. Though another theory occured to him. She had come near to the hill where deer felt safest. That meant that she was probably afraid of something, someone.
Was she being chased? He had seen it periodically, with the wolves, and then with those mysterious creatures of bone. He still had that crystal that he had taken from it, he was studying it. What he had learned so far was that it housed the consciousness of the creature that he had fought, what he was curious as to was that it did not seem to come from a creature that looked like the boney hound that he had fought. Sure, it had been a hound, but from what he had gathered was that it had had flesh.
He was mentally digressing, he returned his thoughts back to the matters at the here and now.
"You seem afraid," He said, his voice lacking fear, and containing a little empathy. "Is there something hunting you?"
Apologies if I got any of the details wrong...
wait is the only one role play involving all characters?apparently i was just reading it wrong. Nevermind.
Liam and Ishibaba listened
The younger buck nodded fervently as Nekumbra spoke, his eyes wide as he took in all of this information. He didn't really feel afraid anymore, not outright anyway. He had heard of the rock hounds before, but he felt that he could fend at least one of them off at a time with ease. What he was worried about was Ishibaba: the stag was healthy and strong, but he was also old and vulnerable. His antlers were visibly brittle, his fur faded with age. It was then that Liam decided that he would fight alongside his old mentor and make sure that he protects him. It was the least he could do for the stag that he owed so very much to.
((You got everything perfect
Nekumbra bowed to the newcomer. "Yes...today is the day I will be hunted by my former friends. They wish for me to continue a certain lifestyle, but I have refused, and since then I have been living in fear from them. They gave me three days to return to my old ways, and I didn't do as they commanded, so they threatened to kill me. Today is that day...", the doe spoke, her voice still wavering, but she was happy to have the company here.
((waiting for a few more who would like to join in, and then we'll get the fight started))
Nathaniel returned the bow
"Need an ally?" Nathaniel asked. "I do not like people who take away your choices in life, and turn it over to an ultimatum." His tone was forceful. He really meant what he said.
He shifted his weight. At
At what point would those around him be unable to fight?
What was he? hardly there, unkillable. Devoured completely in his last fight.
He looked from the sockets of his mask, mumbling things under his breath, was he speaking to it?
It seemed so.
Whatever he said was hardly a whisper. He seemed sad though.
Then again, he always did, didn't he?
He turned back to the others with a smile, ready as ever.
"Oh...oh yes, I would love to
This may be my last day...I may perish in this fight...but it will be the best day of my life...
((I was waiting for a few more but does anyone want to start the fighting now and then if anyone else wants to join in, let them come into the fight?))
I'd love to take part...but
I really don't mind either
He smirked underneath his
He hadn't fought before, he would not run from this fight.
"I will need to know what we're up against," Nathaniel said. "And the name of the doe I'm fighting alongside." He smirked.
Wiping her tears, she spoke,
She then explained to him about her former allies - Iugulare and her infectious abilities; Anirapio's flight patterns and physiology; and the rock hounds and what they're capable of. Having a plan seemed to be working. She was glad she paid attention to what was going on around her.
Sniffing the air, she did smell the infection close by, though faint. Looking around, she barely noticed a pair of violet eyes peering toward them, though the rest of the body seemed invisible. Nekumbra knew about Iugulare's new alpha rock hounds, the ones that could blend in with their surroundings.
"She knows we're here.", the spider doe spoke, as she watched the eyes vanish, and the sounds of pawpads running away. The scout would lead the stoat and dragon to them, where the fight would soon begin.
He wondered about whether he
"I need to change forms to fight them," Nathaniel said. "I shall do that now so as to be ready."
The change was relatively quick for a full body transformation, slowly hair vanished as his bone structure began to alter itself, quite a painful expereince, but with time he had learned to block that out, so it was not too hard to change his shape. His human muscles appeared, surrounding the bones, and blood, as his skin reformed and recoloured itself. His form complete, he summoned some clothing to protect his modesty. Not that he had much, but still amongst others who were not of like mind.
His sword lay inside his tower, it would take too long to retrieve it. So he would fight with his own bare hands alongside his magics.
"Any obvious weakness, other than the infection and bright light? I remember that from fighting one of those invisible rock hounds?" He asked.
Nekumbra thought about this
"The infection can't seem to pass through thick plating or armor, either. I know we don't have anything like that here but it's a thought...if it was unable to reach someone to infect, it would die fairly quickly.", she was trying to think of anything she could to help.
"Oh...if there are any medicinal plants around, they could help ward off the infection. I don't know any myself, but someone would. In fact, I think I remember a few of you helping me with my cravings by eating some plants..."
Nathaniel thought on this for
Attemping something like that usually resulted in a chaotic tear in the universe's primary balance, which resulted in all sorts of odd occurences and unexpected results, usually something catastrophic, black holes, random supernovae, things that spelled doom. He could however cause unusual gravity fluctuations on the flier, restrict it's movements if it was close. Other things could be done, but he figured he would have to fight physically as well. He pulled a branch off a nearby tree and turned it to metal. It was something.
"Right. I think that I'm ready...whenever you are." He said nervously. He was't immune to damage, much as he made out that he was. He could suffer all of the same injuries as normal poeple, and in battle he would not have the ability to simply cause other things to prevent injury, or this infection. Last time getting rid of it had required a system flush. He needed to avoid doing that for as long as possible, due to the fact it would totally incapacitate him.
[[I feel like his fighting technique is going to be hit n run, hit n run...lol]
"Poisons and mushrooms, hm?"
About a half an hour later, both stags returned with bundles of flowers of several different colors in their mouths, with the poisonous mushrooms carefully nestled into the bundles as well. They dropped the bunches at the top of the hill, and Ishibaba kept a few closer to him. "You need not worry," the elder spoke up, a little out of breath from the rush, "I am very much well-versed in the healing arts. If you are injured, come to me and I will help for as long as I can."
((Jumping in now. Sorry I'm
The spider doe's scent had a somewhat burnt smell to it, showing a mixture of fear and determination. Erza knew it Anirapio was coming and followed until she came into sight.
"Nekumbra." He bowed his head as a greeting. Her questioning look opened a mental wound. He choked slightly. "Z's gone."
He turned and gave a start at the other deer that were gathered. His little sister had met them around. Of course he hadn't listened properly when she told him about them and Erza cursed himself silently for his ignorance. He bowed his head to them as he had done to Nekumbra.
"Hello. I'm Erza."
((Not late at all, we're just
Nekumbra bowed to Erza, though saddened about his news on Zera.
It was at this moment that her nose twitched. She looked around and soon saw a small pack of rock hounds heading their way - two yellow-eyed, two red-eyed, one blue-eyed, and one green-eyed.
"Iug and Ani aren't with them...", Nekumbra observed, but then said, "Get ready, everyone! We've got rock hounds to fight here!"
As soon as she spoke the words, one of the yellow-eyed rock hounds rushed toward her. Out of instinct she shot her webbing out from her rump, which struck the creature and began to slow it down. Struggling to break free, Nekumbra hurriedly cocooned the wolf skeleton, who snapped toward her. One stray bite landed on one of her spider legs, shooting up painful shocks that made her cringe. Resisting the pain, she was about to strike it on the skull when another rock hound lunged at her, but...
Matthieu's movements were
His head, skull guarded, collided with the hound's starting a vicious game of shoving.
Muscles twitched in his neck, snarling, a feral sound, low and rumbling, from his mask, as if the earth itself were protesting the bone creature's approach.
He glanced from the corner of his eyes, at Nekumbra, smiling, as if to assure her that he had it under control, before returning to his little 'game'
He swung his metallic branch
A bite to his leg was unavoidable, and he yelped in pain before shutting off the receptors there. It wouldn't help the damage but it let him ignore it. Unfortunately it meant he probably wouldn't notice if he was bitten again there. He continued his fast sweeps with his weapon, finding it both odd and amusing that he appeared to be the only one on two legs.
At the sight of the rock
Standing over his first kill in his whole life, Liam shook and panted, adrenaline coursing through his body. He was so strung up that he hardly noticed the other deer fighting off the rest of the charge. It was then it hit him... He had indeed taken a life. His excitement and awe turned to terror and remorse in an instant, and he felt as if he were about to panic and flee. But then...
"Liam!"
Snapping out of his trance, Liam was able to see another rock hound lunging straight for his throat, and he closed his eyes and tensed his body for the inevitable impact. A shriek was heard, followed by a thud, and he opened his eyes to see Ishibaba shaking his bloodied antlers at the beast. "Ishibaba..." Liam began in wonder, and then cried out when the fallen beast sprang up and latched onto the elder's neck. Ishibaba bleated in pain, bucking wildly and in a panic, but the hound seemed to only hold on tighter. Instinct taking over, Liam charged again, his horns knocking the rock hound hard beneath its jaws, forcing its grip to come loose. Snorting furiously, Liam shook his antlers at the enraged hound, rearing and bleating loudly. The rock hound crouched and glared up at the young buck, its lips twisted into a sharp-toothed grin...

Also we'll assume that the crystals will be given to the Twin Gods since we're so close to their hill))
Nekumbra nodded to her friends, and immediately raised up and pounded on the skull of the yellow-eyed rock hound she had captured. Again and again, she stomped until it was destroyed, knocking the crystal out. She turned to see who needed help...

(Whoops, sorry about that
The red rock hound that snarled at Liam lunged, making the young buck flinch out of instinct, and the back hooves of the elder stag entered his vision and connected with the beast's neck. It snapped instantly, twisting the hound's head at a sharp angle, and it crumpled to the ground with its legs twitching. Liam looked at Ishibaba with wide eyes, his blood boiling at the sight of the gash in his grey neck. The elder looked back at him and nodded, and as he reared up Liam did the same. They both stomped onto the red hound's skull at once, splitting it down the center and forcing the ruby crystals out of their sockets. Panting, Liam picked up the crystals one at a time in his teeth and offered them to the gods, and then turned back to his mentor.
"Ishibaba, your neck..." he began, but was cut off with an irritated shake of the elder's antlers. "Do not fret over me...fret for the others!" Ishibaba replied with a grunt as he knocked away a hound that was creeping up on Un.

Erza sighed. These rock hound things - again. He threw himself into the fight with a yellow one, trying to forget that his sister had been with him last time he had seen these things.
He was just a mass of seething anger and sadness, accurately kicking and flinging the skeletal body around. Erza wasn't concentrating much so the fight was long with many gashes being opened up along his legs and underside. The tears threatening stung his eyes just as much as the scent of the infection.
With a loud bellow, Erza and the rock hound ran at each other. The rock hound was much faster but that was no problem. He put his antlers down and the wolf tried stop but it skidded straight into the sharp branches. The stag threw it against a tree with a grunt then delivered it a hard kick to it's head. The skull spun off the spinal collumn and span slowly to a halt on the ground. It's head yelped and it's body flailed but Erza put a firm hoof on it's spine, dipped his head into the inky black and pulled out the yellow crystal.
He shook some of the infection off of himself and used the light from his picto to burn off the rest. It let off an acrid odour that he ignored and went to drop the crystal near the Twin God's statue.

Liam and Ishibaba hardly had
With a last desperate and particularly powerful buck, Liam managed to loosen its jaws a little, and suddenly Ishibaba's back hooves slammed up beneath its chin. A sharp crack could be heard as the green hound's lower jaw shattered, blood pouring from its maw from biting through its own foul tongue. As it fell to the ground very much stunned and in pain, Liam delivered a powerful back-kick to the hound's temple, effectively crushing it. The hound flopped onto its side in a heap, whimpering pathetically as it lay in unbearable pain. Snorting with anger, Ishibaba reared up and delivered the fatal blow to the hound's skull, quickly ending its life.
Catching his breath, Ishibaba turned to Liam and blanched at the sight of his wound. It was deep, but despite not bleeding profusely Liam limped, unable to fully support himself on his right front leg. "Oh Gods, Liam..." he whispered in a horrified voice, and the young buck looked up at him with wide and frightened eyes. Now what? Now what...?
With the last of the rock
She would do her best for Erza, Ishibaba, Nathaniel, and Mattieu's wounds as well. Letting out a sigh, she was glad that they had come to a resting point.
But this was far from over.
She kept her nose in the air sniffing for more infection. The thick stench of the infected skeletons sprawled around the hill masked the scent of any new rock hounds or Iugulare.
The stoat's plan went perfectly.
((All rock hounds have been defeated from this set, but we'll have more really soon. Take this time to let your characters rest and heal. The rock hound event blog has been updated with victories))

He had been glad, greatly so, for the help.
He looked down shattered ground where hoof and claw had struck at the grass.
It was a sad sight, really, the god's hill in such disarray, but some things needed to happen.
He was sure the gods would not mind.
Turning to the others he listened carefully, silent as the dead.
((Man, am I late to the party
Woden struggled to get back. He knew he was needed. The friends that he had made, they were crying out in pain, they were fighting for their lives. He had promised to protect. An oath that echoed back to so long ago. The mist was all around him, confusing him. Isolating him. I must see through it, he thought. He ran, muscles bunching and exploding, he reached out with long legs, stretching them forward…and met soft moss covered forest floor. He was back. In the forest. He ran on, his breath coming hard, hooves pounding at the dirt, his massive antlers held high. He was back. And he would protect. He wore his largest form, the warrior form that was a gift of the Forest Spirit. But retrieving the gift had cost him. Cost him time.
On the hill of the Twin Gods, his friends had gathered and he raced to meet them. He bugled out to them. He hoped he was not too late…
((Not a problem at all! We
Nekumbra happily bowed to Woden, "Hello, sweetie! As you can tell...", she looked around here, "...we had a few rock hounds but they've been defeated. I'm expecting more soon, though, but glad to see you're here to help!"
She gave an affectionate nuzzle to Woden here, happy to see another friendly face after the chaos that just happened.
Woden nuzzled Nekumbra in
He surveyed the grisly remains on the hill, they smelled foul…and evil. It got under his skin, made his fur bristle, his nostrils flaring in alarm. He stomped his hooves, and snorted, tossing his head and shaking his antlers. This gift was difficult, it wanted to fight and it did not abide idleness. He strained to rein it in.
“These…things do not belong here, Nekumbra,” he said through gritted teeth.

Erza spoke to Nekumbra
"You say there are more coming. How many; we all already have injuries."
He shifted slightly and winced, unconciously emphasising his point.
Nathaniel looked at the leg
He looked to Nekumbra.
"How many will come with the Anirpio and Iugulare?" He asked, echoing another's question.
Nekumbra hated the answer.
"Knowing Iugulare...she'll probably bring 30 more rock hounds...", the spider doe spoke hesitantly.
She knew this was a lost cause from the beginning, she didn't have the words to tell them.
She was destined to die today. And now she understood that she put all of them in danger too. Selfish! Selfish!!, she thought in her mind again and again.
"How far away is she, I can
Erza sighed. At least
"Nathaniel, is there anything I can do to help?"
Erza felt useless seeing as he had no magical talent or expertise in herbs or such, so he was desperate to do anything to help.
Nathaniel shrugged. He was
"When you fight, fight randomly. Vary it up, keep your moves unpredictable," He said. "That chaotic energy fuels my powers. There's already a lot in the air, but if there's a concentrated spot near here, that makes me even stronger." It was the only thing that he could think of.
He reached out with his magics, chaotic dimension rifts seemed the most logical traps, they were akin to a turning razor wheel, ripping apart anything that fell into one. He opened a few nearby, and marked them with a little flower of varyinng colours.
"Avoid those," He said. "Those are the traps. figured i would mark them in such a way that you would recognise them."
Nek shook her head, "I...I

Then examined the tiny flowers. They gave off a very subtle burning odour and a tiny whine. Fight randomly - he could do that.

Ishibaba smiled and nuzzled the young buck, continuing to dress his wounds as well as the others' with the brightly-colored flowers. "I am proud of you, young one. Now save for your strength, for the war has yet to come."
