The day we left.

"What do you think Vermillion?" she asked, far-sighted in distance. "Shall we dare and go to see more?" In her voice was so much anticipation. He knew he won't be able to stop her, no matter what he would do. But he didn't really wanted to , he wanted to go with her, as they had often discussed it. "Yes, we should." it came from him. His voice sounded calm and serious. They had often talked about it, since they have been children, that they wanted to leave the forest together one day. He never had forgotten the promise. "Promise me that you never leave me alone ... and .." "And that I follow you where ever you are." He finished her sentence and gave a short smile. He touched her head with his as a sign of affection. That promise he had given her when they realized what they felt for each other. Yes, he loved her and she him. His gaze lost itself in the vastness of the forest as the deer besides him bowed her head. "We will come back again if we got enough of the world out there." She sounded confident and Vermillion nodded. "Yes, so it will be. I want our children .." She laughed softly and stoped him talking. "We are talking about children when we come back here, dear." She came close to his head and licked him tenderly on the cheek before she turned and trotted down the hill. Vermillion remained standing where he was and looked after her. Yes, that was her. Free and unattached. Children would change that. But for Vermillion ist was already established that she was the one he wanted held until death..

The day of farewell from the forest came faster than Vermillion thought. He was still dozing near the small river as they came to him and took away some sunshine. "Lazy .. come on." She stube him with a fronthoof and he lifted his head slightly sleepy. "Hmm ..?" He growled to her before he knew what was going on. "Ah you.. What happened?" He asked, while he was getting up and shook his head. "Come, Vermillion. Let's go." She said seriously . She had decided that they would leave today. He looked at her questioningly and needed a moment before he understood what exactly was go on. "You want to lave today? And nobody knows anything?" The stately deer asked. She shooked her head. "No, we are coming back. So no need" That was the explanation: Sometimes she wasn't easy to understand. "Alright." He stretched himself once more before he completely got back on his feet and set himself in motion. "Then come." She nodded and followed him. "Thanks Vermillion". He looked back over his shoulder and nodded to her. "I will always be with you, never forget that. And now I go with you to the end of the world. As it was our dream." Her face brightened and she began to smile. Happyness. Amorousness. Probably a little of everything. Vermillion stood to his word and so they reached with any other step to the end of the familiar forest. They still were surrounded by many things which they knew for long time, but soon they would left these woods behind. Vermillion trotted beside her, he could see that she allready enjoyed of what they were going to do, she almost bursted. She was even more adventurous as he, but it turned on him too. So they left the familiar forest behind.

The time just flew by and Vermillion fell behind her. She was some meters in from of him exploring the local area. He, however, looked over her from distance, so that she was safe. Again and again he looked around, maybe if enemies were near, but everything seemed calm. "Vermillion" He heard his name and looked to her. "What's up?" He asked and got an answer right after he asked. "Come here." He followed her call and got close to her side. His gaze was on the female next to him which was looking forward all the time. So he walked away and followed her gaze. What he saw was a dark abyss. Down below was a dark forest what Vermillion never has seen before. "Impressive isn't it?" He heard her voice and he nodded. He made two steps forward closer to the edge. But he couldn't even see the ground.
It was already late in the afternoon, when she reached the forest down there, and she was gone ahead to see everything new. He ran behind her again and kept an eye on her. It was dark under the trees and animals seemed to lurk everywhere under the wood. Vermillion wasn't afraid , he only was cautiously. There was much new to discover but he always stopped and listened to the near sounds. The forest was beautiful but dark and it seemd that everywhere were trenches and chasms. Kind of dangerous it was. "Let us seek a shelter for the night?" He asked after a while and looked at her but she was gone. He was surprised and so he trotted a few steps forward and looked around. "Everything okay?" He asked again and hoped that she would hear him. Suddenly Vermillion turned around and saw her climbung of the bushes. "There was a rabbit." She said and grinned cheekily. "I see." He answered seriously and walked to her. "Let us look for something for the night." There was Thunder in the distance it had started to rain. "There might be a thunderstorm soon." He predicted and tried to look up to heaven, but he couldn't see him. "Yes, I've seen a small cave. Might be a good place" She said and ran into the same direction where she was coming from before. Vermillion followed her and just as they reached the cave, there was muc more rain. The thunder was louder and soon the thunderstorm was over them. she was behind Vermillion at the cave entrance layed down looking at him. He was watching the rain fall. He sighed quietly. "You ok with what we have done?"

"Yeah." He replied and walked around to her. But .. she was gone! The place where she was was before was empty. Confused, the deer looked around and took one step closer to the place. It was still warm. "Where did you go?" He asked into the cave and tried to see anything in the dark but it was too small that she could hide in here. It flashes and now he could see tha he was alone. She was gone, without that he had noticed something? And so fast? Vermillion didn't understood anything that was going on. It confused him more. That couldn't be true! "Stop to hide!!" He called and walked into the rain. "Come out!". But she didn't reply. She was really gone! The deer left the cave and want into the rain. The roar was deafening and he couldn't see anything. Again and again the rain drips into his eyes. "Where are you?" He shouted again. No answer.
Vermillion ran off, he had to find her! Again and again he called her, but got no answer. He had no orientation in this forest, he didn't know where it was save or where it was not. He knew their enemies, but not where they were found here. "Where are you?" He shouted again. His hair was soaked with rain and he shook it ever again. But it didn't helped. All night he ran around, was looking for her, until he was completely exhausted. Somewhere in the dark he stopped and let his head hang. She was away .. THERE! A sound very close, let him scare. He hurriedly lifted his head and was listened. Growling ... Wolves! And not just one. It thundered and flashed immediately afterwards! He could see their shadows. There were 5 or more. Their eyes glowed in the flashlight. "No. .. go!" He said and stretched his body. He would fight, he never would give up, not before he had found her! There! One came up to him and another one too! Vermillion lifted his head and stretched his mighty antlers to receive them. "Come!" He tried to courage himself. He was much weakened and its strength was gone within the search after her. The wolf ran off and jumped into his direction, right up to him. The second wolf jumped off too. He saw the Flash of their teeth, but Vermillion jumped to the side and kicked one away, but the second wolf was faster. He caught his one of his hoofs and the deer turned back to to defend himself. He tore his antlers around and hit the second wolf. A third wolf mixed into the fight and jumped at Vermillion. The deer made a step back and ... stepped into the void! An abyss! Panic led to Vermillion, but it was too late. he didn't reach the savely edge and fell in the darkness .... It was quiet around him.

"Where are you?" A voice in his head woke him. He opend his eyes and looked around. He was at home, in their forest. He was at the Ename Ruin - alone. "Where are you?" The voice aid again and some kind of force brought him back on his feet. The Wound...? He didn't feel anything. He took a few steps. She was not with him .. "Where are you ..?" He whispered and walked off .. find her.
