As A Precaution-
[I am not making this with any expectations for new actions.
The creators have done so much already, I couldn't ask for more.
This is merely for discussing, not begging.

That said, have you ever tried to use an action ingame, only to realize it doesn't exist? It happens to me all the time, when I'm growing tired and would like to sit down somewhere. I'll make for the bow button, then realize that doesn't really look like a stretch. In fact, it looks a bit more like a dismissal, which isn't what I'm trying to get across at all.

Has anyone accomplished/would like to share an action combination that looks more like a stretch?

Or any neat buttonmashes you would like to share.

In fact, if it gets off the ground, I'll update this initial post with any combo request or solutions.

I find this fascinating. And

I find this fascinating. And for the short time I'm on today, I'll make a list of the things I myself have considered trying to do, but naturally, can't do for the lack of a button.

First of all - Panting.

It might sound ridiculous, haha, but in my mind, if my character is weary from a fight, a run, whatever, they're out of breath. I often use the Listen+Listen technique to either signify a typical shaking a fly away, or pant.
It'd be cool to see if that ever got implemented. Though I doubt it will, as I am well aware it's hardly an action, haha~

Also, sleeping in different positions.
Say, if one's character is worn out and falls asleep, it'll be different than if they are relaxed and lay in a different position... Haha.
Just another thing I'd often thought about when seeing all the deer in the forest sleeping the same way.

Grooming.

We all make use of the nod+shake head and have made it quite believable when we groom one another. I'm actually proud of those who first figured it out (:
But it would certainly be wicked if there was a button that allowed you to groom.

Even more fighting buttons, though that may be pushing it. I love fights, I love watching them, participating. It's the type of gamer I am. Having more techniques for the buttonmashing would certainly be entertaining, and with more buttons to choose from, there'd be more to improvise with as well. (Consider the Bow+Rear. For Pandora it's moreorless a temper tantrum, stomping the ground. Yet when she succumbs to Jealousy, it's a vicious weight-laden attack.)

Different buttons mean more options.

But those are my general ideas.

They all fail, haha~ Let's see what others come up with 8D

Pft, so not fail! At least

Pft, so not fail!
At least yours are useful. All mine are like...dance+laugh+dance. xD Which, aside from startling and astounding nameless, has very little reason.

The sleeping bit gets a particularly enthusiastic nod from me. I'd love it if I could get Ta to just flop down somewhere, entirely void of manners, sprawled out everywhere. Actually, heh, that'd look hilarious with the in-game fawn. Those long legs...

I would love to see different lying down/sleeping positions as suggested...will try to think of some to contribute.

This really isn't something I

This really isn't something I invented, but I love the sneeze+shocked emote. It looks like a powerful sneeze, and it's funny as hell coming out of Kaoori, because it looks like she propelled herself forward. xD;

I'd love to find out how people used to have their deer 'faint'.. it would be helpful for me in the future for something I'm going to do.

/was one of or if not the

/was one of or if not the first, as far as I know, who started using nod/shake as a way of grooming.

I actually dreamt of different sleeping/sitting positions in tef, it's definitely something I'd want to see in game. It seems fairly fitting anyway.
Tiredness is aslo something I have trouble portraying, so a stretch or perhaps a yawn action would make a good addition. I tend to use sad and then the listen-listen for that, but it can easily be misinterpreted. Hnn, most of all I would just like a proper grazing emote. Has anyone ever heard M and A's opinions on that?

As for more interesting emote combos, I'll need to think of some..

I like trying to indicate

I like trying to indicate things with head movement or the way my deer is facing someone else, a lot of which I picked up from Virgil.

Taunt + Sad - Frustration
Surprised + Sad - Exhaustion, panting

Intentionally tripping.

Something I've recently picked up through brd is listen+listen on another deer as tickling, and from Lem as ruffling.

Breaking up emotes halfway through stepping back, like a more subtle/hesitant nod or head tilt. Breaking up nodding through sitting down, like a small sign of approvement.

Breaking up emotes by Listen + emote, ending up with shaking and the end half of the emote. Listen + taunt is fun. Also with nod or head tilt, again a subtle way of indicating the reason of the shaking.

Listen + dancing twice makes your deer do a small step. It's like adding uncertainity to the shaking, nervously stepping from one foot to the other.
Also, quick confusion + emote + dancing twice. It's a bit wonky but you get that "step" with the head tilt. You can do that with other emotions too.

I think a controllable

I think a controllable stretch emote would be fantastic. Seeing as the movement is already programmed into the game, it couldn't be too hard to give us control over it, right? But no, I haven't found a substitution for this D:

And grooming would be so nice. I'd especially love an option to groom while sitting... or do anything while sitting, for that matter.

Coughing: Sad + yes. I'm not

Coughing: Sad + yes. I'm not sure if I invented that or stole it from somebody. xD
Dramatic bow: Amazed + bow. It was used for a character I had who was an actor.
Exhaustion: Amazement + sad + sit. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to translate well. Sticking out tongue

I'm not sure what could be used for stretch. Hrrm. I was thinking antler + bow, but that could also look threatening.

When I use Listen + Listen to

When I use Listen + Listen to shake, I realised if you do Listen + Dance + Dance instead, your deers feet also shuffle around as if to make yourself comfortable, or maybe to show you're cold. Also when people groom others with Nod + Shake emotions, it can easily be used to eat leaves from the trees within the Birch, etc, ...

I would like to see different moods for when being idle/moving. I dislike how when the deer walks, they hold their necks high. It would be cool to see a tired/upset walk, so that the deer hangs their head low, and maybe drag their feet around.

I agree with Starling, I

I agree with Starling, I would love a walk with their head lowered.
I would also like another position to sit down in, where they lay the head down without being asleep. ^^
Hart's picture

Lower antlers+step

Lower antlers+step forward+lower antlers.
If you do this right, I interpret this as pushing forward with antlers lowered. Virgil being a natural brute, and in his prime age, has a very strong push - but he prefers to use this when his antlers are locked with his foe.
However in more desperate occasions he will use this whilst his foe is rearing. If he can get under his foe and push under the effects could realistically be lethal.

Exposing side to other deer.
I use this as an act of submission towards other deer. But it could also be a sign the deer I'm playing is ready to spontaneously flee. If the deer is up close to the other deer it's like a request to be groomed.

Walk, Stop and look back. Then walk again.
Invitation for you to follow.

Listen right infront of another deer.
Like showing off. Trying to make himself look bigger. Dominance.

Walking side by side with foe during rut.
Parallel walking. Sizing foe up.

Multiple calls in very short period of time. Roar, take a step, roar more.
Distress calls. Calling for help.

Lower antlers + nod infront of a tree.
Stripping bark from the tree and eating it.

There's only one emote I'd really like, and that's grazing. xD
Starling's picture

I once discovered a way to

I once discovered a way to graze but it totally sucks. Anyway:

1) Go rub against a tree in the forest, so that a pinecone will fall to the ground. Do not eat it!
2) Press escape and go to the Details menu, then turn Nature Detail all the way down.
3) Get up, the pinecone will be invisible due to Nature Detail being so low. However you will still see the action to eat it.
4) Now, you can pretend to graze anywhere; Example, go to The Birch and go rub against a tree (which will be invisible because of Nature Detail being low) but you must then quickly press the button to pick up the pinecone: Rub against tree + eat pinecone. And then then your deer should graze for a few seconds!

Note: When your deer "eats the pinecone" to graze, it will face the direction of where the pinecone was when it came out of tree earlier. To stop this, you should pick up a spell (any spell) BEFORE doing this technique. That way, when you go to graze, wherever you are in the forest, HOVER your mouse over the yellow spell casting button, but don;t click it, and your deer will face towards the tree/deer your eating from when you do the technique...

Pfft I hope this is clear enough. I suck at explaining XD

You guys are crazy smart. I

You guys are crazy smart.
I wish I could respond to each one of these, but there are so many. I'll get to listing them in the first post at some point today.

lower antlers+head tilt:

  • lower antlers+head tilt: polite invite to spar, usually after a greeting
  • Paw at the ground+ head tilt: want to sit here with me?
  • surprised emote in front of blueberries (blue flowers) or tall grass or Poppy flowers: eating them
  • Laughing emote in water: Taking a bath
  • Shaking head emote when someone moos at you: Be quiet, no more mooing, please.
  • Sad emote then bow: Sorry, I have to leave

Ones I use daily

I know this doesn't exactly

I know this doesn't exactly belong to the combos topic but since it's being mentioned, laying actions (specially positions and head actions) would be nice. The glitches caused by sit-listen disappoint me, although the Intentional Yawn glitch is very funny. If any of you knows more of these, I'd love to know about them~

By the way, I'd use the Yawn glitch in the situation you mentioned, since I didn't find any realistic stretch yet.

For reference to those who don't know: Yawn Emote
Sit down - Dance/Listen (don't spin or move out of place!)
If I'm correct, your char should automatically sit again (with the legs twisting oddly) while the action buttons stay up.
If you press them it will display the facial expressions of those emotes while still sitting, although the rest of the body won't move except for the Dance and Listen. Not very good for masked deer.
If you press the Amazed action it will look quite alot like a yawn, but it looks quite forced.

I can't remember anything worth it right now but I'll probably post something here again.

I'll be tracking this, since

I'll be tracking this, since I'm too bland to have come up with anything like these combinations that others have put. :c

-Amazed + Rearing = Funny

-Amazed + Rearing = Funny little hop on hind legs, makes your deer look super surprised!
-Amazed + sad = Looks like your deer is coughing...or out of breath.
-Taunt + paw at ground = A sort of miniature hoof shuffle, pretty cute for dancing!
-Angling the camera so that it faces opposite of where your deer is facing, and tilting from one side of the deer to another also creates a pretty panicked looking emote! Like they are shifting their head around suspiciously or in paranoia! :]

Just some I use, I guess. Among dozens of other combinations, haha~

Hmmm a stretch.. I don't

Hmmm a stretch.. I don't think I've found anything better than the action that automatically plays when you stand up after sleeping. I wish we could have that as it's own 'buttoned' action.

When playing Queze he uses a brief sad + no head shake to be a sort of sigh, usually if he sees someone doing something foolish lol.

One I am quite fond of is a

One I am quite fond of is a Listen+Listen+Taunting, or Listen+Taunting. When done right it looks like the deer shakes its head and then makes a disgusted or disapproving or "bleeh" face.

edit: Another one I use often. Pawing ground, walking around, pawing+taunting, pawing (shuffling around dirt on the ground, prepare ground for sand bath/rolling on back) then laugh+left and right keys (deer rolls on back like a horse, kind of) and then listen+listen (shaking off dirt and dust).

I like these suggestions 8D I

I like these suggestions 8D
I saw this from another deer, I'm not sure if I've been using it right though. But this is what I use it for.

If your deer is intimidated by another, or by an opponent, I use the listen emote very quickly. I see it as showing off your antlers and waving them around to warn them off. Also if you listen quickly then run, your deer should still be shaking it's head; I view this as a charge. I tend to use this in fights quite alot c:

Aivilo's picture

Head tilt + nod = "Is that

Head tilt + nod = "Is that right?" or a quiet laugh, depending on the situation
Head tilt + shake head = "Why not?", "No?", or "I don't understand."
Point + Head tilt + nod = "Won't you please sit with me?"
Taunt + cut off halfway, run in circle = nervous prance, pacing
Taunt + cut off halfway, back up = nervous, backing away from threat
Taunt + rear + back up = startled, nervous
Turn rear end to other deer = Upset with, ignoring.
Sit with rear facing deer = extra upset, "I'm done with you."
Facing other deer, but keep head turned away = "I'm here, but my mind is elsewhere."
Sad + shake head = Sigh, exasperation, depression, "Sorry, I can't do that/go with you."
Jump in the pond, walk out, and rear while your deer is shaking off water = "OOGABOOGA!" -- Someone showed me this in-game once and it cracks me up every time xD

I think those are most of the ones I use frequently but haven't seen listed here yet.

grazing + different laying

grazing + different laying positions are two things that'd be nice to have.

~it's fun mixing emotes to try to make your own. :3
Definition of a Harlequinn: A conventional buffoon of the commedia dell'arte, traditionally presented in a mask and parti-colored tights.

Tracking. Someone might have

Tracking.

Someone might have already mentioned this, but when playing Lacie as a thylacine, I kept trying to come up with a way to do a yawn as a threat display - as thylacines supposedly yawned as a sign of agitation.

The closest I've been able to come to is Surprise + Taunt, as Surprise makes the mouth wide and more open, and Taunt has a threatening note to it when used in certain situations.

I'll have to look through these, and see if there's any that have been "missed" per say, but then again, I'm not very original either haha.

I often use the "listen"

I often use the "listen" action to represent crying, sniffling, etc. You set the "listen" emote on a certain hotkey, then very quickly press it two times. The way your deer shakes its head kind of looks like they`re distressed. I know a few others who do it too. It can also be a forceful no of sorts; more powerful than the normal no emote.
