She jumped a little at the touch. "Oh? Oh, no everything alr-........ actually there is something wrong." She rose her nose to the air and sniffed again. "I feel uneasy. Maybe I am just imaging it, but it feels like there is a slight hint of blood in the wind today." She looked around as if she was hoping to spot something, or better someone. "I mean, a slight blood smell is always here, almost everyday someone is fighting. But this seems different.... Smells like blood spilled from a hunt.... and a silence after a predator got its prey and no living being dares to move." There was tension visible in her body.

The now antlerless doe stood up, looked around a few times and laid back down. There was something familiar in this odor, and she didn't like it the least to be mixed with the smell of death. "Where there any hunts lately in this forest, in which someone was killed or harshly wounded?"

Trees just nodded and rose silently.
She didn't want to see it for she was sure what would be found would greatly displease her.
So for once she let the younger one take the lead.

The older one trotted behind her younger friend, unsure in her walks. That was until she caught a hind of a scent coming from near the water. And in this scent... undoubted.... the smell of a certain young doe she just recently adopted. First with slow steps which got faster and faster by each movement, she reached the crying idol...and close by the source of the strong odor of blood in the air. Trees looked around in panic. No that couldn't be, not her... not the fawn with the biggest luck she has know so far.

In trance, barely noticing Miyako besides her, which seemed as shocked as she was, the doe started to call out in a loud voice, a voice she had only used on her own off-springs to call them to her side for safety.
"Ava!! Ava, where are you!!! Ava, answer me!! Please! Djävulen!!! Listen, will you, come here right now!!! Ava...please... I beg you.....please...answer... ...............answer me......"

Finally her voice died down as she gave up. The feeling she feared most, the feeling of a great loss started to sink in. She leaned slightly against Miyako, who not only helped her call for the little female, but now also offered her comfort.

Trees swallowed hard. The trail was leading to the pond... and she would know what she would find there...

Yet the hind went there, to see with her own eyes the proof to what her instinct was already telling her.

And there was it. The remains of the young Djävulen. Torn apart by a predator with a seemingly giant jaw. It was now nothing more than a carcass.
Out of reflex the doe had nuzzled Firios who had joined them at the pond, who probably was just as confused and taken aback to see those remaining.

Trees herself just leaned down and, as sick as it appeared, she gave what was left of her adored Ava a goodbye nuzzle.

When the little group of deer found rest at the playground, Trees finally let her legs give in. She sank down. Her cries weren't loud, rather they were silent tears and sobs, but only because she bit her lips to keep it in, thankful to the protection Miyako and Firios were offering her.

With a silent, trembling voice, Trees simply answer with one word. "Thanks."

As soon as he caught the smell of the air Ani, he immediately awakened his sister and went to his mother. Proudly, he presents his sister. "Hello, i'm very glad to see you, how are you? Oh I want to show you my younger sister, Rachel" He glanced at the little golden doe and smiled.

As Trees saw her son approach with a smaller female following him, she rose to greet the red one. "Welcome, my son. I am fine, even better now that you are here." She smiled and looked towards the other female introduced to her. With a bow she greeted Rachel and a sniff made it clear, that she was indeed close to Domino. "Good day, Rachel. Nice to meet you. How are you two doing?"

"This was a short meeting, but your sister is really a nice doe." Trees laid her head upon the resting stags shoulders. "Thank you for introducing her to me." She was thankful, the younger stag was so willingly taking the spot of a guardian.

"Hmm, I see." She thought for a moment, reflecting some memories from the past. "That's sad. I hope, the father will come back to his senses." She started to clean the red one's head. "As for Rachel, she seems like a strong doe to me. And with you by her side, it will be a wonderful experience. It is new life after all." The brown faced cuddled her cheek towards Domino's as she laid her head next to his, closing her eyes. "And if you two think, there is anything I can do, don't hestitate to ask for it. I am glad to help wherever I can." She opened that eye of hers that was directed towards his head, looking right into the males eye. "How far is she?"

A relieved expression covered her face. His words, they went right to the heart and gave her a warm fuzzy feeling. "Thank you so much, Domino. To me you are already a son and with the charm of your sister, she will make it to the daughter place in short time, too." Her nose pressed to his cheek as a gesture he has every right to be confident."Both you and Rachel are always welcome."
