"Below the waves there lurks a contradiction.
You would not know it child.
Frivolous as you are flitting about with your little friends.
When was the last time you rested by the pond?
When was the last time you broke the bounds of reality and strolled along the surface?
I had done so recently and I have one mighty fine fish story to share..."
"It was only my second or third day in the forest when I heard the haunting melody.
Oh, this was no call of the proud bull or cry of the timid doe.
This was full of purpose and dripping of longing.
I was no fool, I knew that a sound coming from the pond could only be one creature.
I couldn't help but be amused when I approached and saw a doe at the bottom.
Oh she batted her eyes and flirted with me from afar.
I could barely contain my laughter!
She thought I was a stag!
Oh the games we do play..."
"You may call me a tease but this wicked siren was no different.
She modeled many different looks in an attempt to draw me towards the waters.
I 'took the bait' so to speak and had a merry game of tiptoeing along the shallows.
As if I were too proud to outright run for her.
She was all smiles and beauty, but I knew better than to trust the appearance. "
The occasional flash of anger and outrage at my stubbornness lifted the spell.
I could see the crone lurking behind the maiden.
She was no more an adorable lean doe than I was a proud stubborn stag on the water's edge.
One of us would have to drop this facade eventually.
I would not be bested by a glorified seahorse. "
"I danced along the shores until my prey feigned disinterest and immediately bounded out onto the surface.
It was a fun trick I learned long ago and had no qualms about flaunting it.
I boldly strolled along the surface with a cocky sense of superiority.
Look at you little water-doe.
Oh you have your pretty trinkets, nice voice, and silly illusion,
but do you really believe any worthy man desires such things?
Then again I suppose the way to your heart is through your stomach, or someone's at least.
I try not to consider the eating preferences of...others.
Given the creature's vantage point there was no hiding the fact that she had been attempting to seduce one very amused doe for the last hour.
I sneezed off my spell and pranced around with obnoxious glee.
A tiny doe!
You silly creature you are fooled as easily as your prey!
They follow their urges and you follow your stomach!
Does one really believe that the antlers make the male?
Hah! I have bested bulls twice my size by sheer tenacity.
The kelpie should be flattered that she could hold the attention of such a divine being for so long.
Any lesser body of water would have been boiling from the anger stewing below the surface.
Elegant hooves turned to claws.
The sleek body structure weighted down with large fins
and the once coy smile turned to an elongated muzzle filled with interlocking teeth.
Instead of the long lashed sparkling eyes she had only sunken in sockets with the crazed look of absolute rage.
She was..perfect.
No false appearance to hide behind now.
Only that blind pure rage and 'ugly' raw emotions that we strive so hard to cover up.
A being without inhibition.
We've all been there, wanting to act out on our unsightly impulses but held back by the standards of 'lady-like behavior'.
Pah.
If only so many more does were willing to flaunt their emotions so openly. "
"Soon after my leaps and gleeful bounds were met with the thrashing of fins and snapping at heels.
It seems that along with a refined appearance the water-dweller also lacked a sense of humor.
I pranced for the shore and stood in the shallows continuing my laughter.
The mortals here were far more fun and interesting than any others I had encountered."
"Oh woeful siren, won't you dare to touch the shore? I do so desire you for my collection.
Come be my child, I'll make it worth your while..."
