3.31 Pictogram Glitches: List of glitched parts

Unplugged's picture
In the current version, The Endless Forest 3.4, Generation 2 Pictograms show up properly. For those who play the newest version this is not relevant.
However, some players chose to play with Version 3.31, where Gen2 Pictos are glitched and lack a certain part of the picto.

A player playing 3.31 will see the pictogram of another player playing 3.31 glitched.
A player playing 3.31 will see the pictogram of a player playing 3.4 glitched.
A player playing 3.4 will see the pictogram of a player playing 3.31 glitched.
A player playing 3.4 will see the pictogram of another player playing 3.4 properly.

With this list you can easily check what your existing picto looks like glitched. If you plan on getting a new pictogram and playing it in 3.31, you can also check what it will look like to others before chosing it.

For better visualization, you can re-build your pictogram with
Avilo's Pictogram Builder (download link is at the end).
Alternately, you can use your deer's "true name"-link and remove the last character so that the missing part will rotate through the options. ((Thanks Avilo for the suggestion))

Following parts of a pictogram will not show up for a 3.31-Player:

Angle, 60 Degrees
"Letter V"
RtL Diagonal
Center Tilde
Top Tilde
Open Rectangle

Angle, Lesser
Bottom Double Curves
Bottom Dot
Bottom Triangle
Upper Vertical
(not top!)

Left Center Square
Top Platform
Semi-Big Circle
(not lesser or bigger!)
Parallels
Bottom Arc

Why is this happening?
Each Pictogram is made of four different Glyphs. (Read more about this)
In Version 3.31, the game is not able to show the fourth "Glyph-Slot" to anyone but the player himself, resulting in making Generation 2 Pictograms show up properly for the player while missing a part for everyone else.
This would cause problems seeing as two different players who have the same pictogram except for the fourth "Glyph-Slot" would look identical to everyone. This means you could have up to 14 other people with apparently the same pictogram. Thankfully this was fixed in the newest version.

They are actually seen as glitched.
Otherwise, this guide is awesome and very helpful. =]

This is awesome! Thank you

This is awesome! Thank you for putting this together (:

So, what if you have two of the ones listed in your pictogram? Will they both not appear, or just one?

You're right Pegasicorn!

You're right Pegasicorn! Fixed that, thanks. Smiling This goes against my theory of how this glitch could occur though. I guess I'll need to re-think that.

Iaurdagnire, you can't have two listed parts in one pictogram because they all share the fourth Glyph-Spot. There are some very similar-looking glyphs on other spots.
That is, if my theory that only the fouth spot is glitched is true. I actually checked it with my own pictograms but who knows.

Ah okay, I guess mine might

Ah okay, I guess mine might have the smaller circle... its definitely has the lower arch.

Sorry, I find numbers and shapes hard to digest so reading through those other blogs confused me |'D

So that would mean that to

So that would mean that to players who are not using 3.4, this would not have the left box, and this would not have the bottom dot?

This is correct. I hypothesize that, due to the "1" in the 2nd generation pictogram codes, the 3.31 version overlooks the fourth glyph because that 1 is in the way. Since the 1 is not an accepted character for the first glyph, the game client turns a blind eye and skips over it to the actual first character and begins displaying at that point, but since it has gone through four characters by the time it gets to the last slot, it doesn't display it.
I do not, however, know why it doesn't shift everything over one (ie making the first glyph appear as a second slot glyph).

Glad to see my builders being useful :3 I've got to update 2ndgen and fix a minor glitch on 1st gen. I'll have to get on that next time I plug in my hard drive. I'm planning a little tutorial for it, too, since some people seem to be having trouble with it.

BUT. There's also an easier way to visualize what your glitched pictogram looks like, if you have any trouble with the builders.
Using the method described in Unplugged's "True Name" post to get the "true name" of your pictogram, go to the "true name" page for your pictogram.
For example, my deer Candlelight's:
http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1ldq6

Now just remove the last character from that URL.
http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1ldq

The last glyph will show as a rotating glyph cycle in the background, but you can see what your glitched pictogram looks like.
