Cato's having technology-related issues again. It never ends, does it? Yeah...I'm tired of hearing about it too C:

>:C I have no idea why I can't ever have technology that works. It's like it teases me. I get something that works decent and after not even a month, all hell breaks loose. This laptop is old in terms of computers. It's around 5 years old. I'm only supposed to have it for a few months before we find a new one for classes. Is it too much to ask that it, heaven forbid, ACTUALLY WORKS for those 2 months?!?!?

It was fine yesterday. Albeit, I've been having some photoshop issues where it freezes, doesn't recognize the tablet in the middle of me drawing a line, and will glitch and not let me use the filters, but that's besides the point. Nooow the whole system decides to crash for no reason. Usually it's when iTunes is up and it does it in the middle of a song...but I'm not quite sure if that is relevant or not. *shrugs* It'll go to a blue screen of death, and shut down before I can read what it says. Then it tries to restart and says that it can't. So I have to manually shut it down and then turn it on again and it'll work....just long enough to start this all over again. It did it 3 times in one hour.

I shut it down, put it in safemode, and ran some anti-virus stuff, and it got rid of some srs stuff and I thought it would be good. Nope. Did it again a few minutes ago. So THIS TIME (uggghh it never ends) I ran a start-up diagnostics test on it. I get two tests that fail, they had the error codes of:

1000-0147
1000-0146

Something is wrong with the damn hard-drive. I started doing some research on the net to see what it meant. Dell's website did nothing. Other answers I found was that it was hot and to let it cool down (that one might actually be feasible, I left this thing on for a loooooooooong while, and haven't actually shut it down for a sufficient amount of time), another was to remove the hard-drive and put it back in (instincts telling me NOT to do that right now), another one said that I was fucked.

So, I'm lost. I won't pretend to be awesome at computers, I'm not, I only know little things here and there that I learned from past problems. This is nothing like I've had before. I'm really pissed. I mean really. I am so, so, sososososososososososo TIRED of crap like this happening all the time. Anybody who knows me knows that for some reason I always have tech issues. I swear if the hard drive is about to go, my dad's getting an earful. This is his hand-me-down laptop that he gave me as it was about to die. I am literally physically and emotionally exhausted from having problems like this constantly. It SHOULDN'T be doing this, at all. It was fine yesterday. And all I've been doing is listening to music and drawing. For once, I'd just like something to work properly for me so that I could get shit done.

I know we have some computer people on here, could any one of you point me in the right direction? Before I have to go disturbing my brother?

It's a dell laptop? Oh boy.

It's a dell laptop? Oh boy. (Not much of a dell fan here. XD)

Soo.. which program gave you these error codes? And do you get bluescreens, or does it just crash randomly? Turning on bluescreens might be an option if they're turned off (google). And everytime you get one, copy the error code and google that the next time it starts up...? It might point you in the right direction. (I once had one that pointed me to a defective RAM)

But yeah, if it's the hard drive dying, good luck... These things may die sometimes without much hope for recovery. So backing up some stuff would be useful before everything is lost. :/
You could try to run checkdisk, if you haven't done that yet.

I'm sorry that you're so fed up with your computer. I know how tiring constant problems can get, especially when you're trying to work on something. = =;

I seem to be the only person

I seem to be the only person left on earth who'd rather have a Dell than a Mac or anything else XD

I'm not sure if it's a program doing it or not :/ The last 3 times it's done it, it was when I had iTunes open and it gave me a blue screen right in the middle of a song and then it shut down. The 4th time I can't remember if iTunes was open or not :/

The bluescreen never stays up long enough for me to read it DX I did a diagnostics check though and I got those two error codes up there. And I /think/ not sure though, that that might've been what the blue screen was saying.

I did check disk a few minutes ago...nothing. :C

So far though, I've been on the net for about an hour and nothing's happened...soooooo...I have no idea DX

I might start making some calls tomorrow and get working on putting together my new laptop with my brother. We were holding out until I started classes in early July, so we'd have as up to date technology as possible. But if this thing dies before then, that month of getting no work done just ain't gonna fly.

I'm really hoping I can fix this, I might be getting into the final rounds of an art tournament, I need a computer to do an entry DX

Thanks for all of your help <3

Well, I was asking about

Well, I was asking about these error codes:
1000-0147
1000-0146
Where are they from? XD

Hmm. It's hard to help with such issues over the internet. ; ;" I hope it'll work out for you, though.
I'm much better in terms of software, but hardware defects are hard to fix when there's no possibility to fiddle around with it in person. XD OK, sometimes that's the case with software problems, too...

And by the way, I'm not into any brands. I chose my own hardware because it's cheaper for me and I don't like most ready-to-go computers... There's always something missing, lol. /special snowflake

PFFFT OH LOL I actually am

PFFFT OH LOL I actually am not really sure. I did a google search on both and both have something to do with the hard drive I think. I found a section on Dell that had "fixes" for different error codes. 0146 was remove and reinstall the hard drive and 0147 was take out the CD drive and put it back in. I do not know how to fiddle with the inside of a laptop, I could do it with my desktop but no...not this one DX

It hasn't done it in about an hour or so...I also haven't opened up iTunes yet >.> so I got nothing for now. If it does it again I'll try and speed read what pops up XD

I don't really pay much attention to brands either. My brother is the tech geek of the family, he helps hand pick and build everything that comes to us. When I start on getting my new laptop all of the components go through him first XD He's also the next person I'll go to if I can't figure this thing out. He's like our own personal Geek Squad...but free XDD

Hee, I have a brother like

Hee, I have a brother like that, too. He helped me choose the components for my computer. I basically copied his and chose some cheaper alternatives.

And I've never fiddled with a laptop, either. Just with my Xbox, like a thousand times. LOL. And my desktops of course. XD

Hmm... I always wonder why iTunes is so popular. I used to have an iPod and ugh iTunes was such a pain, slow and everything. Their store is being advertised here in Germany, but I know barely anyone who uses iTunes. /random
phantomhelsing's picture

I just use it because I have

I just use it because I have an iPod and that's the only thing letting me put stuff on it |D

And usually...it works well for me. Except now. I'm seriously beginning to think that it was causing the shut-downs. I haven't been running it and so far things have been good. Although I haven't tried running anything else except firefox and skype so I'm not sure...but meh I'll try it before shutting it off and letting it cool down for awhile, see if it helps.
muesique's picture

There are alternatives for

There are alternatives for that if you wanna try them. I think there's even a plug-in for WinAmp to put music on the iPod. XD I'm not using mine anymore, though... So I don't know what it's called.

Maybe reinstall iTunes? Or update, if it isn't the latest version. /is prone to ignore updates XD
phantomhelsing's picture

I...ignore updates a lot. I

I...ignore updates a lot. I should maybe try that |D I've had firefox crash itself on purpose so that it could restart and install updates because I kept ignoring them DX

Thanks C: I may stick with what I have though, I've been changing a lot of things, keeping something familiar may help me feel a little less insane |D but I'll check it out nonetheless ^^
