The Greatest Trick The Devil Ever Pulled...

...was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Dispassionate. It is a word the color black, indifferent; children having not yet learned to stay in the lines with crayons. Dispassionate was the color of Totec's eyes, a glittering onyx that was cold and distant, like far off stars. Despite it, however, perched at his mouth was a subtle, slow smile.

The world went on, curling itself at his feet, unaware of the things that were happening around it. That was fine - just fine, as far as Totec was concerned. The world could continue it's slow, dumb march in only one direction, as slow, dumb things wanted to do. Looking at the big picture was, more often than not, terrifying. Most tended to avoid doing that, if they could help it and were Totec any less of a bastard, he might have pitied, or at the very least, understood their reluctance.

Unfortunately, Totec was not any less of a bastard. In fact, he was more of one and tended to take the utmost pleasure in seeing the suffering of others. Let's be frank: tormenting others was not a hobby, it was a vocation, a way of life. Furthermore...he was good at it. He'd been doing it for centuries now. He'd tormented, tortured, maimed, beat, killed - the list went on and on. As far as Totec was concerned...

..well, if you're going to have a talent, you might as well be good at it, right?
