3 deer on shore, 1 in the sea

Last weekend Anomalocaris took on human form, and so disguised mingled with a group of kayak-faring humans. They paddled along the south coast of the Isle of Skye. Sea lochs, home to seals and basking sharks, lie at the foot of the dark Cuillin mountains. Caves carved out by the waves provide shelter for cormorant parents and their hatchlings.

At one point when the group was making for the head of the loch to set up camp, Anomalocaris found himself somehow speeding up and taking the lead. He paddled past inquisitive seal heads and around a small islet to find a good landing spot. Instead there was a red deer fawn teenager, metres away on the rock-and-grass shore. It looked back calmly and beautifully - may have seen through the human disguise... Two more deer, an adult and a fawn, were standing a little further off. For a few precious moments, it was just four deer there, sharing the sound of the waves and a waterfall trickling into the bay. Then as more and more kayaks came gliding in, the family on shore calmly climbed to higher ground and disappeared behind the rocks.

It can be very good sometimes to build up, to plan, and then to go for it alone, to go on a whim...

Let's see for the Abiogenesis water experience tomorrow =)

Anomalocaris: the origins

-~~+*+~~+*+~~+*+~~+*+~~+ t h e O r i g i n s +~~+*+~~+*+~~+*+~~+*+~~+*+~~-

When Anomalocaris crackled into existence in the Endless Forest, the world was still young and the deer were still old. He shook his mighty antlers in confusion, sniffed the air, and listened. And the trees and purple bellflowers argued amongst each other for a while, and then they whispered his name, figuring he would have a nice head start in life being called after a genus of extinct marine predators. And so the brand new stag learned of the earth and his place in it and the domestic issues of plants; and he grinned.

Later that first day, when he had run far and reared high and rolled much, he lay down, pensative. The sight and smell of kindred creatures had not failed to reach him; yet he had shunned them, as they seemed a funny bunch. Yet deep, deep inside he knew that he must converse with these beings, and cherish them, and honour his name not so much by eating them as by standing before them as a living, rekindled relic of a curious past.

He slept soundly that night, and the next morning he made his introductions and danced and got fancy masks. He learned: one day it will rain, another will bring squirrels.

Anomalocaris is often asleep; but when he awakes he still hears the leaves and roots chat and argue. Sometimes they whisper his name as a reminder, and sometimes he whispers their name, too.

synchronising makes sense

A nice relaxing little stroll in the Forest today. Near the pond. I had no idea I was so near the pond last time I fell asleep.

Said hello to a fawn and a mini-deer, I'm afraid I didn't get your names, it's all a bit clunky here. Also, for the same reasons, pardon me if I seem to walk through anyone Sticking out tongue I think I did recognize Darcy who came up (orange - bravo!) and we did a synchro backward dance. It's neat if you manage to coordinate a bit.

I'll post a bit of background on Anomalocaris too.

G'nite now! Over and out.

Hello, community site.

Blogging! It's hip... let's do it.

Back in the Forest after a long break. My laptop used to pass out with TEF on. But a while back I took it apart and pried out the dust, and it runs better now. Still clunky, but steadier.

So... there's a lot of new pelts and masks and stuff. Nice. And I don't remember there being a 'scared' emote either.

Ran around, met some deer who were into frantic antics, enjoyed that. Also tried to make some of them follow me, with some calling and running up and down, and it worked (a first!). Thanks, deer with the dude-like picto and deer with the box'o'cigarettes picto Smiling

I like it when things are a bit less frantic and every emote tries to say something meaningful.

[Hm. Clicking on the live forest map does nothing... shame, I wonder what these deer are called.]

Over and out.
