Violet's story; Her past.

DEERTH's picture
This is a story written about Violet's past.

Rosie was born in the spring. Her mother's and father's happiest day it was. They named their daughter something, but Violet doesn't remember it (Violet/Rosie is not my named, she named herself Smiling). Now, her father doubled watching over the territory and her mother taught her well, fed her and told stories to her. Her mother had a dark real deer pelt and wore a real deer mask. Even she had antlers. Fan antlers. (Whoa, it's my default deer character I've created! Please don't confuse them, as Rosie's mother is dead...) Violet's father had the secretary bird pelt with real deer mask and great zombie antlers. Violet didn't actually remember her father well. Now I'll give Rosie the word (She talks in the past): "I remember my peaceful days within my family territory. Father always drove out wolves, never losing. And he never had time for me! I feel safe here. I wonder where my parents got these funny masks... Oh wait, mom told me the story about it where the masks are. Yes yes, silly me. Mother is teaching me patiently. I have so much things to learn! Today, she'll teach me how to run fast away from predators. She says it's very important if you want to save yourself from wolves and the like. I believe her, although I never have seen a wolf in my life. How do they look like? Do they have antlers too? Do they have hooves or a short tail like us? Anyway, father said they're ugly and furry. I still don't get the picture. Oh I have to stop dreaming now, I need to learn things! I think today's awesome like the previous days!" At eve, she dreams again: "Mother sleeps. I still think about the wonderful story she told me... About The Endless Forest. I wonder how is it there. I never get farther from our family territory. And usually, we stay in the heart of it. These words about The Forest seemed like music to me. Mom is such a wonderful story teller. Mom was awed today by my fast running. I don't really understand, why. Anyone can run, can't they? And everyone at their own speed... Hmm. I want to recall the story. Mom told me: "Have I told you the story of The Endless Forest? No? Then I shall. I have been there myself, so it musn't be any myth. We can't stay there, as we are on a quest in this forest here. I have grown up here as well, but I visited The Endless Forest often. This is how I got there: When my mother... Your grandma... Yes, yes, let me tell the story now. She's dead unfortunately. Dah, now where was I? You really like to interrupt me alot! Ah yes, now I remember! Anyway, my mother went to check other places if they are safe and she led me stroll around the forest anywhere. She could always find me and save me. Well, I never have ran into troubles, too. Fortunate for that. Well, my mother had told me about The Endless Forest as well. She said, that if you are near a shallow stream, and you go against the waves, you will reach a blue glowing pedestal. There is a Twin God's carve in a rock behind the pedestal. At the side of the pedestal, there is a sharp rock. Now the ritual to enter Endless Forest through the portal was like this: Put your left hoof on the pedestal. Then take it off. Then cut your right anklet with the sharp rock and drop blood on the pedestal. Then put both hooves on the pedestal and you enter The Forest. Quite a ritual, don't you think. Although, when you enter the forest, the wound is gone. So it's safe. I was on a stroll when my mother left. I strolled for a hour, eating strawberries in a pine tree area on a break of strolling. After I strolled a lot, I saw a shallow stream. I remembered The Endless Forest and decided to follow the instructions. Go by the stream, against the waves, reach the blue glowing pedestal, put your left hoof on the pedestal, take it off, cut your right anklet, put both hooves on the pedestal and there you go. It was indeed a portal. I appeared in a different forest. I felt dizzy from the teleportation. I looked around. It was good there. Deer were kind, not nervous, like in our land, fawns were jumping and inviting me into their games I've never dreamed of. I tasted the yummy pine cones and mushrooms and slept in The Oak's bark. It dinned like a lullaby. I was gifted this wooden deer mask. So I am more like the real deer. We have human faces, you know, daughter. My mother was smart enough to find me even in there and took me even home. From that day, I visited The Endless Forest every day until mom came for me. It lasted until I became mature and started a family. Then I stopped going there. I still miss The Endless Forest." That's excatly how she told me that... It has been two months since I was born. As my mom said. But I should get some sleep now." It was peaceful like that until that happened... But let Violet's memories speak for themself. "It's quiet. What could happen this day? Mom gave me mushrooms. They were soft and yummy above milk. I was getting tired from having milk as food all the time. I am still not able to eat grass and pine cones and flowers and these things. I can't graze. Mom will teach me today how to find food better. I wonder what will be this evening's story? Wait... I heard something... So did mom... A PACK OF WOLVES! They've come after us! Ow...." The pack of wolves held a grudge against Rosie's father and now attacked the stag. He's figthing well to hold them back, as Rosie's mother took Violet into a hideout in an area full of bushes. They were hiding there. Violet thought: "I wonder if the wolves will find us here. They looked nasty and ugly, indeed. I'm scared. They might kill my dad. A scream from him. I am shaking from fear-oh no... Father is... Dead. They are searching us! I don't wish to die! Ow, mom where are you taking me again!?" Violet's mother pushed Violet as a sign to run as fast as she could. They ran away from their territory, as the wolves found the place where the deer were. Now Rosie ran with her mother. They ran until they reached a cliff... The wolf pack was big enough to surround them at the cliff side. The cliff was steep and unable to climb. So, Rosie's mother pushed Rosie with her mask nosetip and said: "Go... Now! Find The Endless Forest!" "But mom..." "Go... NOW! I will be always with you, remember, but go!" Violet ran as fast she could. She dodged the wolves and slipped away. But the wolves didn't have time for her. They killed Violet's mother (Sorry, if it seems a bit bloody...). But Rosie ran and ran and ran. It lasted for four hours and when they were over, Violet barely ran. She trotted weakly, but said to herself: "I must not stop. I must find The Endless Forest!" She trotted some time, what changed to weak walking. Still, she didn't rest. She was sure of herself, that she will find The Endless Forest and keeped repeating in her thoughts: "I can't stop! Mother said I must find it... The Endless Forest." Violet reached a cool and shallow stream. Her hooves were burning and she went to the stream. She drank and cooled herself up. Then she remembered it. The shallow stream shall guide you to The Endless Forest. So she went against the waves. She waded some time from the stream and reached a blue glowing pedestal. It was more like a cube rock with blue glow. Then there was a long rock behind the pedestal with a carve of the Twin Gods. And there was also, the cutting rock. Rosie recalled the ritual and followed it: Left hoof put on the pedestal and then taken off, cut left anklet and drop blood on the 'cube rock' and then both hooves on the pedestal again... Rosie felt dizzy and she collapsed on the ground. She didn't remember anything else. She woke up, in tall grass. Violet felt safe. She didn't understand where she is at first, but then, yes, she remembered. In The Endless Forest. Violet stood up and started wandering around the Endless Forest. And she tried out every single place here. De Drinkplaats, The Oak, The Pond and so on. She started to like it here.

Interesting idea, this

Interesting idea, this ritual. I really like reading how people explain the existence of The Forest in their stories Smiling
And poor Violet - although she doesn't seem too sad about her parent's loss ^^

Thanks! Violet was more

Thanks! Violet was more depressed when she was a 'Very young fawn'. Then nobody talked to her and so she had to recover by herself. Right now, as there are more friends to be coming and deer talking to her, she almost has forgotten her past.

Oh I really like this story!

Oh I really like this story! And I also think the ritual is a great idea. There's been a lot of different ideas on how a deer gets to the Endless Forest but that is a pretty cool one.

I feel bad for her parents though. Must be terrible to go through.
