Under the Twilight Sky [RP, anyone?]

Mary13's picture
Now that I'm back, I'm really hoping to get into these things again, and since I have no real interaction with Val yet, hoping to make this one. Her character still needs some development and interaction with words.

This is meant to take place in a light twilight in the Forest. Hoping to keep this calm and friendly (though if you're the type for drama then I guess that's okay too owo), but anyone can join. All I ask is that you know how to RP and write. You're free to enter and leave whenever you please, but once you join, please stick to the answering order if there will be any.

No limit as to how many people can join, the more the merrier.

The Endless Forest was quiet. Much, much more quiet than usual - in fact, if you'd walk around the Forest this late, you'd probably hear nothing but the sound of water splashing against the shore, or perhaps the wind blowing through the trees. That was it. The animals were quiet, and so were the beasts. From monster to fawn, everyone seemed to be afraid of being the first one to speak, moo, chirp or croak. Despite the similar, pressing silence that everyone had joined, the reasons for their silence were different for each creature. Perhaps they were afraid of the darkness, perhaps they wanted to show their gratitude to the Twin Gods, who had finally stopped the rain from falling. It had been raining for days, and the colourful twilight was like an awaited blessing, a chance for everyone to relax and let go of the stress that had been bothering them during the depressing phase of rain and muddy puddles. Even the small, white doe had settled down - at least in terms of being quiet. She didn't want to raise the magical curtain that had completely covered the Forest's active life behind it. Still, her heart was full of darkened thoughts, a feeling very alien to her. She moved through the Forest like a small phantom, quiet and unscure. Not one sound could be heard from her light steps - it was as if she wasn't there at all. She wasn't normally so secretive of her own existence - in fact, it was a miracle if others were able to avoid her in her happiest days.

It was darker than average - the doe hadn't yet experienced her new home this way, and while it excited her, in all honesty, the sudden change made her uncomfortable. As a fairy, she drew all her energy, all her happiness and life from sunlight. The darkness was her only enemy, as it made her weak, tired and wary - dark beings were active today, darkened spirits and demonic creatures lurked in the woods, enjoying the weather to its fullest. It made the white creature scared, as she didn't have a way to protect herself. The red runes that were usually glowing brightly on her fur, were now quite faint, making it seem like the markings were fading away like old paint. Those red markings weren't there just for show - they kept her body together, they kept her protected, should she face a threat. In this darkness, their power was fading, and it meant that she could be in danger, too. The doe wasn't afraid of people, as she couldn't believe there would be anyone who'd consciously choose to harm another, but dark spirits were different. They were truly bad. Her natural enemy. There was no way to befriend them.

There was a way to restore her energy, and gladly it was a way that existed in this place, too. She hadn't been here for long, and knew very little of the Forest. She only knew what the Gods had told them since she first arrived into this body.
Fireflies. They were dancing happily above a patch of periwinkles, glowing in the night like tiny, beautiful lanterns. The doe had always been a friend of insects, especially fireflies and butterflies - they had often landed on her Home back when she had been just a sprite, without a body. Even though she didn't know these fireflies by name, hopefully they still remembered that she was a close familiar to them. Perhaps she could convince them to give her some of their light, their energy to help her. Quietly, with soft steps, she walked to the center of the field of flowers, took a deep breath and sat down. Her long, snow-white hair spread around her like a halo, landing softly on the layer of periwinkles. The fairy closed her eyes, raised her head up - and started to sing - or rather, hum. It was a beautiful sound, the pure voice of a fairy that surrounded the patch of flowers where she was sitting on. The flowers seemed to perk up a bit as they heard that chiming sound, but it wasn't enough to awake them from their slumber - it was still too early. Spring would do its part on that sooner or later. Instead, her echoing voice attracted the herd of fireflies. All of a sudden, their wild movements seemed to stop, as if they were listening to the doe. As she continued, they started moving closer to her, some landing on her head, some on her back, some on her small shoulders. As she continued her singing, softly and gently, the markings on her seemed to lit up for a while, her whole existence glowing with a bright light. At the same time as the insects were providing her with their energy, her singing echoed through the nearby trees - but still, it was so silent that it could have easily been mistaken for a breeze of wind. However, one with sharp ears, an intelligent mind and an open heart might have heard it.

What did it sound like?
That would be a hard thing to describe. They say that the singing of a fairy will sound different for everyone, depending how tainted their hearts are, or how poisoned their minds have become. True, it may be that a creature with a completely pure, loving heart couldn't exist, but that didn't mean there wasn't anyone we wouldn't call a "good person". If one's intentions were good, their hearts open to the magic and the mystery of the Forest, they'd hear a beautiful melody, a delicate and a soothing voice humming straight into their ear. It is said, that when a traveller hears the singing of a fairy, one of their wishes is granted. That may have just been local folklore with no real proof to support it, but at the very least, a voice so beautiful and sweet would have surely calmed you down, reassuring you and freeing you of your current worries, even if for a moment. However, if your inentions were driven with a burning desire to harm, you would hear a woman's scream, an ugly sound that was so loud, so accusing that it pierced your ears. Though, who knew if any of it was true - the only truth that I can tell you, is that it sounds different to everyone.

What would you feel like if you heard the white's song, there and then, in the darkness of the Forest's twilight?

Hmmm. Since Alastair recently met Val in-forest, I think this may be appropriate.

Alastair was enjoying the calm of the darkened forest. The faint sunlight slanting through the trees was wonderful.
All of a sudden, he heard a beautiful sound. It was like chimes in a breeze, mixed with a flute. The most beautiful song Alastair had ever heard was being heard faintly through the trees.
He slowly got to his feet, and stepped quietly toward the sound.
Suddenly, Alastair was in a magical world, walking toward a sound that could only be made a magical being.
Then he saw her.
A small, delicate white deer, with pinkish markings was sitting in the middle of a patch of flowers, singing. Surrounding her was fireflies, their light making the scene all the more merry. Alastair stepped quietly toward her and said softly, "Hello, I am quite enjoying the song you're singing."

How sudden it was, the voice of someone ahead of her. The instant he spoke, the doe's head springed up, her sharp ears facing the darkened sky. In an instant, the fireflies that had been surrounding her returned to their original dancing cycle, as if nothing had happened. The fairy's singing stopped, and she looked absolutely terrified of the stranger. When it was this dark, she couldn't make out the stranger's facial features, she just knew that he was bigger than her, and could have been a dark spirit in disguise. It was rare for anyone else to wander awake this late.

In a quick attempt to protect herself, Valkëa quickly got up from her position, hiding most of her small body behind a thick tree nearby. It was only her childlike curiosity that kept her from running, and she kept peeking at the stag, ears drawn to his direction in order to pick up any sounds that would come from his mouth. He had commented on her singing, and it made the small doe blush in delight, even though she attempted to hide it in order to look tough. In truth, she was quite sensitive of her singing, and felt embarassed whenever others would hear it without her permission. The voice of a fairy had so many different qualities than the voice of a "normal" creature. She found it really interesting that the stag had managed to hear it, even in this wind. Perhaps... just perhaps, it was a stag with a good heart? Is that why he had heard her song? "You- you like it? Truly?" As she finally spoke, her voice was quiet and sweet, soft like a feather. She didn't dare to come out of hiding yet, but she had noticed one of the fireflies flying closer to the stag, eventually beginning to circle him, happily.
The doe looked at her insect friend in confusion - why had it taken so much interest in this creature? Perhaps it wasn't a dark spirit after all, perhaps it wasn't trying to deceive her. The firefly seemed to know the stag's heart, and didn't deem him dangerous. Although the white remained in the shelter of the tree, she whispered happily: "The fireflies.. they're not scared of you."

Ashe was walking through the forest, having no destination in mind but just enjoying the silent of the night, when he heard something break through the low howls of the wind. It sounded similar to the song of the Old Oak, but he was nowhere near the great tree. Was that someone singing? It was lovely, it made him feel warm, metaphorically, since he was already warm enough under his fur.

Intrigued by the melody, the young stag followed it, arriving at a patch of periwinkles between trees. There were two deer already there, surrounded by fireflies. He recognized the little bugs as the ones that were out dancing after the rain had finally stopped. Were they still celebrating the end of the rain?

Talking about recognizing, the young stag remembered meeting the white doe-- that wasn't quite right, she was something more, what that was was unknown-- before. Maybe meet wasn't the right word, she, all he could make of her name was 'Val', hadn't really said anything to him but had leaned against him. She had seemed troubled that day, so he had stayed, in hopes of comforting her. She once again seemed troubled, but it didn't seem like it was in the same way as last time.

The stag, he believes he has seen his picto, which reads Alistair, in the corner of his mind's eye a couple of times, but he doesn't believe he has ever meet him, actually. He seems kind enough from what he can see thanks to the fireflies' light and... oh. Is he glowing? How unusual.

He stays near the trees, out of the way. He has no idea what he walked in on and he doesn't want to interrupt if it's something important between the two.

Alastair was a bit startled when the little white female raced behind a tree. Well, that's what he got for being so open. When the female spoke, it was quiet and sweet as her song.
"Why yes" Alastair said. "It is lovely"
One of the fireflies surrounding the little female flew over to Alastair. It began to circle him, as if the firefly was attracted to the glow Alastair emitted.
"You're right." Alastair murmured. "It is almost as if they think I'm one of them."
Not wanting to scare the young female, Alastair stayed where he was. Suddenly, his ear flicked. He sensed someone else nearby...

The white doe was becoming

The white doe was becoming much more relaxed in the golden stag's company, starting from the instant that the lone firefly had begun to circle him in quiet, illuminating patterns. Insects, animals and plants, the whole surrounding ecosystem.. they never lied about the good or evil in one's soul. For someone like the small fairy, the messages that she constantly received from her environment were even more important than actually seeing the actual person responding. People, especially bad spirits and nasty hearts, were more than capable of deception and lies. But the Mother couldn't be deceived by mere tricks, magic spells or honeyed words. If the fireflies weren't scared of the stag, then the doe shouldn't be either. It proved that he wasn't a dark spirit. It was safe.

Finally stepping out of the shadows where she had hidden herself in, the doe bravely approached the golden stag, admiring the special glow that seemed to be coming from his body. "Then that means you're a friend! The fireflies are never wrong." She giggled, watching as the fireflies tried to creep closer again. It was as if they were attracted by the golden stag's light, they wanted to play with him and dance with him upon the field of flowers. The doe wouldn't tell that to the stag, though - he wanted to see if he could figure that out by himself. Being concerned about your surroundings and taking others into consideration was a trait that the doe appreciated in others - although she never saw a certain trait as being wrong or unwanted. Everything could be turned into positive strength if given a chance, or so she believed.

Hearing his comments about her song made the fairy blush again, and she tried to hide her reddish face behind her long, white hair. She didn't remember the last time her song had been called lovely, nor did she remember the last time someone had bothered to hear her singing. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to react to these words. 'Lovely'. Such a simple word, but packed with so much meaning that it made the doe's heart beat faster from pure delight. She remembered others saying that it was potentially dangerous for a fairy to sing around others, as the results were mostly unpredictable. Even though she felt awful for being found out, she wanted to be showered more with those compliments. It made her feel as if she had made someone happy or impressed with her voice. "You weren't supposed to hear that song, though. I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone of this." The doe got closer to the golden stag, whispering the words into his ear, as quietly and softly as before. There was a hint of embarassment and regret in her words, but she couldn't hide her joy, either. Someone had complimented her singing! Just the thought of it made her cheeks flourish in different shades of red and pink.

The presence of someone else made the small doe literally jump up from her position, white hair scattering all around her as she tried to regain her balance quickly after the impact of the shock. However, instead of jumping behind the tree again, the fairy quickly hid behind her newfound golden friend, and peeked at the darkened woods from behind him, legs shaking in both fear and excitement. What if it was another friend, someone that had come here after hearing her solo? That wasn't exactly a good thing either, but a much better scenario than meeting with a dark spirit here of all places. It was too dark to see, the trees ahead of her only being dotted in shades of violet, blue and black, enough to make you gasp in admiration but also enough to keep you on your toes. Just about anything could jump out of those bushes, and the twilight was an ideal time for the darkened souls to gather around here, especially if they sensed a fairy nearby. Valkëa wouldn't be able to defend herself if that was the case - she was still weakened greatly by the darkness, and it was not like she had any competitive strength to start with. The power of a fairy was meant to bring happiness, not pain. Should that someone who was hiding in there attack them, the golden stag was Val's only hope. Oh, if she could have only seen who - or what - was looking at them.

The young stag saw when the others were alerted to his presence, first by the older stag's slight tense, and then by the doe's big action of jumping. He decided it might be a good idea to walk out and greet them. He didn't want to make anybody nervous or fearful that a predator might be upon them.

He slowly stepped out of the coverage of the trees and made his way over to them, stopping a few paces away so there was still some distance between them. He bowed his head and cooed, nervously.

The doe had told the stag that he was not suppose to hear the song. Would she be mad at him if she found out that he had heard it as well? But it was such a lovely song, why did she not want others to hear it?

Alastair turned to the newcomer. It was a younger stag, with a white pelt and a skull mask. Alastair walked slowly as not to scare the newcomer, and bent his head down so he was at the younger one's level. "Why hello there." Alastair cast a glance at the white female. "I'm Alastair, I like to think of myself as a...helper. Are you lost? Do you need something?" Alastair added in a whisper:"Did you hear the song too?"
Alastair stepped back to the female. He lay down and watched silently as the fireflies pondered about wether to trust the newcomer or not. Alastair could sense that the young stag was good, but he had been fooled before. The fireflies would know best.

The doe's mood perked up the

The doe's mood perked up the instant that the newcomer decided to finally show his face to the two. A huge smile began to spread on her face as she noticed the skull that the stag was wearing, and that white, fluffy fur covering him. In an instant, the fairy was reassured that everything was fine so far, and that it was indeed someone she had met briefly in the past. Sure, that hadn't been her best day, but an acquaintance was still an acquaintance. "Ashe! What were you doing, hiding from us like that? You were scaring everyone." Acting as if she had known the white stag since times most ancient, Valkëa finally stepped out of hiding for good, going to nuzzle Ashe quickly before sitting down to her patch once more, sighing deeply and waiting for the skull-faced deer to answer Alastair. Thank goodness, they were both friends, not dark spirits. She was safe, for now.

Still, the fact that not one, but two people had heard her song was not good at all. Not only was she embarassed about it, those two hadn't been meant to hear it, not here, not now. The fairy wasn't sure as to how she could explain it to these two that had just wanted to hear a lullaby, but this situation could mean trouble. "How much did you two...hear?" She asked, her bubbly face turning into a soft, chiming whisper once more. She didn't want anyone else to arrive on the scene after being discovered by these two. She had no reason to fear them, the fireflies weren't scared of either of them, but what she was afraid of were the consequences. Even she had certain rules to follow, and she had just broken one of them. What would the Mother think?

The young buck brightened

The young buck brightened when he was warmly welcomed by both deer and by the fact that the doe remembered him. He huffed at 'Val's words, finding the way she spoke to him amusing, returning the quick nuzzle before he watched her go and sit in the flowers.

He turned to Alastair, smiling as the other introduced himself. He tilted his head at the pause. What kind of helper was he? He must be good kind, right? Val didn't seem too worried about him, and he didn't exactly put out any bad feelings, but he had been wrong before. When the older asked the first two questions he shook his head-- he wasn't lost, and he didn't think he needed anything... well, nothing he could probably help him with-- when the stag leaned in to him to ask his third question, he nodded.

He stepped towards them, going to join them in the patch of periwinkles, when the doe's whispered question made him pause. He wasn't quite sure how much of it he heard. He had most likely caught it in the middle; by the way it sounded, she had already been singing a while before he heard it. He shook his head lazily, hoping that it conveyed that he didn't hear much.

It seemed the main topic of this moment was the song and how many had heard it. It was a really nice song, but by the way she asked about it made it seem important. He wondered, as he watched a firefly dance near him, what made this song so important?
