Just imagine it play a while after and also not in the forest.

Sonne sighed deeply.
Since the moment his mother has returned from that strange forest she visits now and then, she was standing around and sighing and crying the whole time. He felt bad for not being able to cheer her up somehow, and so probably felt his big brother Nukilik, too, who stood somewhere in the shadows of the night forest behind them.

The brown fawn with the striped flanks looked to the crying figure of his mother, who stood there at the edge of a soft hill, eyes closed and tears still running out of them.

“Mom?”, Trees eyes didn’t open, but her ears turned towards her younger son cuddling at her belly, telling him that he got her attention,” Why don’t you looks at the moon? He is so bright and big, you always liked looking at him when he was like that.”

“Because he is disappearing again. That makes me sad.”

“But he will grow again. He comes and goes every month.”

“That’s what makes me sad.” For the first time this night she opened her eyes and looked for a moment at the questioning face of her offspring. She knows, he will never understand how much she cursed the moon for taking one of her most precious treasures. “He will come back, Poltergeist won’t….she will never come back.”
And with that she turned her head away again and closed her eyes to keep the new tears from running down her face. She knew, it sounded childish what she has just said, but sometimes, it couldn’t be helped, when sadness and pain bore through ones heart like the bullet of a human’s gun.

“Mommy, who was Polt?”

That question got her off guard and hurt somehow, but how should Sonne know, he was born just this year and never been to the forest. All he knew was this place, his mother, his father, his brother and the wolves tolerating them.
She thought about it a few moments, before she finally rose her head a little faced the pale figure of the moon above her. She expected to feel a new rush of disgust against it, but instead his light seemed to flood her heart and warm it.
Sonne was right; it was very big and bright, maybe even more when she had seen in any other night before. With a weak and sad smile, she gave her answer, not trying to keep the water droplets of her soul from dropping down this time.

“She was my first fawn.”

For a brief moment, there was silence and Sonne’s expression looked so forced like thinking, it was almost kinky.

“In this case we should give her a great ´See you soon´, not a ´farewell forever´. Because you will see her soon, yes. After all, we all going to go to the stars someday, aren’t we?”

“Sonne….”, confused the Kabuki colored doe looked at her offspring. She would have never expected him of all deer to talk like only the great wise stags of her birth herd did.

“Who told you that?”

The young boy, who ran to the little edge before them, turned around and gave her a big and heart warming smile.

Proudly he declared:

“The wolves. They said, we are all children of the great gods, who hide everywhere around us. And when we are born, they let us go out to play and those bodies are like clothes for the humans, so that our souls won’t get cold or hurt themselves too much, but at some time the clothes are too used and torn and then we have to go back home to the gods, where we can eat and sleep. Sometimes, those body clothes get torn sooner for some creatures than for others, and so they have to go home sooner than the others. But but but, the wolves say, at the end we will meet all again back home and………………Mommy?”

Sonne was little surprised to see his mother cry again, but also smile at the same time.

“Is everything alright?”, he asked.

“Yes, yes. Keep telling, dear.”

“O-okay. Well they said, that those who are at home already, can’t come out at the moment, but they can still hear the ones playing outside through the open doors and windows and all the entrances and openings, because at the home of the gods, there are not walls and chains and bars and fences and such things, and that’s why, the wolves say, why they sing so much and so loud, because those at home can hear us and they can hear us sing and talk and see us walk and play and dance. And they are happy when we are happy and they are sad when we are sad, just like they were when they played outside with us. I think, Poltergeist looks at us right now, too. I think, since she is my sister, she would be also sad to see you so crying like this, like I am; I think she would be much much happier if we sing her a wonderful song instead, one that says that we will see each other soon.”

And with that he turned around and started “telling” as good as he could at the moment. Hey, he was still learning! His breath formed a little fawn who’s body looked more like a star and sent it up to the sky. He was satisfied with it’s looking so far, but it was disappointing to see that it wasn’t enough though to get that high despite his eager breathing attempts. The little star fawn he created moved its legs rapidly to get higher just, similar to its creator attempts to make it fly.

Sonne was so concentrated on his work that he stumbled back a little, as he was surprised by another doe made of breath with a tail and hind legs like a shooting star flying past him and taking the little star fawn of his on herself to dance with it and take it higher and higher.

The little brown fawn chuckled, he knew without turning around that it was his mother’s doe, and so they started to sing together. He sent star fawn after star fawn to the sky that was always taken higher by the shooting star doe, until some of them where so high they couldn’t be told apart from the real stars.
At some point somewhere in between the time that past creating in this wonderful musical of nature and fantasy, Nukilik joined them in this strange and fascinating duet with his stag, helping the doe to get those many little lights of love up to the highest points, so that they could whisper the gods the dreams and wishes of all children outside into their ears, wishing for them to be granted.Even the wolf pack, which gave the three a sanctuary, joined the choir with their voices, drawn by this alien rhythm of life to make sure, the three singers got even the last soul’s attention at the home of the gods.
It might took some time for Trees to recover, but somewhere, maybe behind the moon there was one little faint star smiling down at them, a star that hopefully heard Trees’ silent promise to return and being the new life it left on earth a family, to be a shooting star herself and to take them to the sky like she did once before with the little smiling star above.

The image is really lovely as well.

Goodness, this is really,

Goodness, this is really, truly, beautiful~ Wow...
I love the idea and concept of that story, that the body is a sort of container for a soul. It's an interesting idea, and fascinating all the same. And that picture at the bottom....wow.
I adore everything about it~
It must have taken ages to draw so many wolves and deer! And there is so much detail in the grass, it looks great!
Oh, and I also love how you made the colors look in the image of Poltergeist. She almost looks like the northern lights!
We all will miss Polt, no doubt.
