Cruel tempests ripped through the bushy upper canopy, like a keening mother endlessly searching for the forever lost. Above spread black, below a fine mist that caressed each tree, each twig, each sprig with its icy tendrils. Squealing echoes speared through the dark, 'causing any wandering deer to feel a shiver deep within spine and inner being. Mirrored this was by deep bleats of the great horned owl.
The Great Oak stood proud strong against such gales though, a hollow being. Enraptured by its warmth and comfort a group of deer, as it always occured, huddled atop the soft grass. They formed a queer half-circle, consisting mostly of young fawns blinking away sleep. Eyes of every shade focused on a small figure, frail in stance, yet strong of word.
"You will come to realize this place I speak of is different...Bigger, and beyond any deer's understanding."
Voices quietly protested, mewling like kittens.
"Bigger? Nothing is bigger then the forest."
"How can there be anyplace but here?"
Confusion contorted the outspoken's features, as the small doe looked on calmly.
"Quiet, I do not ask you to believe only listen."
Their lightsource flickered, orange in its soft wavering glow, and heads unanimously turned to glance at a candle adorned stag who lounged along the very edges of their abode.
"I imagine I've heard of your 'world'."
Voice softly floated their way as his eyes, dry dripping red, watched them with what appeared an aloof gaze.
"Yes there are many stories that travel around, Selig."
The bark behind him suddenly fluttered to life, twisting in the form of a small moth attracted by the closest thing to a sun. Its wings had a sheen that mumbled blue as it slowly flexed them atop its new perch, Selig's now stiff ear.
"Mine is no different."
