Part 1
Conceived from a trick was I.
Lord of my mother’s lord and master,
But another rival, fit and faster.
Born of a trick was I.

My mother and the other hinds were split around by Masters tines, some were blooded and others fell never to rise. The Masters lust knew no bounds. Mother said it was a living hell. Now whilst her seasons master, a big and bold Master fort his rival’s young and old, within the shadows another stag did creep, full of cunning, dark and sleek. Mother said she never knew what happened till he'd seen her through and vanished like no deer should be able to, but the deed was done the seed was sown, But how now had the master known?

My mother’s season master big and bold, now proven to the other stags checked his hinds, to find the fertile holy sent. Now when he laid his head upon my mother’s frame breathing deeply. He knew it not the same. He roared and bellowed, stamped and reared. Things that make a great stag feared. But my mother stood there, she shook her head and walked out of the group as a hind can do once no longer in season. Her master of that season told her one true thing that he would never take her in to his harem again. She was in truth glad of this, for he was a cruel one.

So the times moved on, the land grew and died and soon it was her time.So in to the woods she strode to the place of her own birth. She told me I was a big fawn even then and unlike others she was forced to lay down to birth me. I remember my first sensation of air cold sharp and so strong, then feeling it travel in to my body and with a cough life flowed in to me. My mother cleaned me, eating the afterbirth to stop any sent of me drifting. She helped me to my confusion of feet I seemed to have 4 to get in order. She showed me how to feed. The first taste of her rich milk trickled down my throat and warmed me filling me with strength. I had never felt so grateful. I looked round with new blinking eyes and took my world in. I saw a monster staring at me and mother. It seemed to glow in the darkness of the forest, on its head it wore a mighty crown. Even then I shuddered. Mother made me follow her in to a bush of sharp plants we waited for the monster to go away. I noticed around it others like me, but they just lay there staring at all and nothing.
The monster left.

Mother named me in that sharp plant bush "I will call you Nightstalker, after your father." And so I gained a name. She said she hoped my father’s dark skills might have been passed to me so that I would always be safe. Yet to me, she made my world safe.

For days we stayed there. She chewed some of the bushes leaves for food. Her ears moving constantly, her nose snuffing the air. I felt her tension and hoped it would soon go. The air though had changed, Instead of the crisp smells I had started life with, there was now a sticky sweet smell saturating the air, as dark birds and other creatures came My mother told me their names and if I should fear them or not, the fox, the stoat, the magpie, the rat and the crow. They came and many took things away with them I could not tell what they carried, but my heart quickened when I saw them. Then mother one night told me to stay In the thorn bush, Her milk had been getting weaker, she needed to feed on other plants and herbs to thicken it and build up her condition. So I bid her goodbye and promised her I would be a good son, she left the thorn bush and headed to a place she called the grass plain so..... i slept...........

But now I’m awake, It has been a whole bright cycle and a whole dark cycle and she has not returned……..mother is gone............
