One Snow Coated Morning

Glittering white snow had covered the ground completely. Every pine needle had a blanket of snow coating it in the trees. Appearantly a blizzard had blown by, and in the aftermath, few dared to move. Any footprints in the snow could take away from the beauty left behind by the storm. A few late flurries continued to float down to the ground from the reddish gray sky. Threw the clouds the silethout of the moon could be seen sinking in the horizion, reflecting silvery light into the forest. In that same moment the sun seemed to be raising, sending warmth threw the dawn.

Half buried in the snow, Zerg lifted her head, making an awkward head shaking motion to shake the snow off her long mask. She had recently shed off her typical magpie antlers, leaving behind a black velvet duo of stumps where her horns would regrow in the spring. Her orca styled pelt had whitened into a secretary style with the winter as well. She blinked a few times drowsilly, focusing her reddish brown eyes threw her long mask's eyeholes. "Wow... beautiful..." she thought, looking over the snow coated landscape from where she lay. A short shiver wracked her body, displacing the snow around her. "But cold..." she thought, sighing. A cloud of warm air formed under her mask, melting a few stray snowflakes that took the time to land on her mask after it had been shaken off. Slowly she began to move within her nest of snow, raising into a stand. She streached out, and tossed her head slightly to undo a crick in her neck, and tossing her mane over to one side at once.

She stood still for a moment, ears perked as she listened to the sounds of the awakining forest. A few fawns were crying out to eachother. She could pick out at least three, maybe four, different fawns voices cutting the icey air. She laughed quietly to herself. "Enjoy your snow day, young ones." she commented, allowing herself to be ironic. She was very young herself... no longer a fawn, but not quite old enough to be a possable mother, at least by her own standards. Finally deciding to move, she lifted her forehooves off the ground and lept at the base of the nearest tree, aiming to step where the snow was less deep. She didn't want to disturb the beautifully glittering deep snow... that was a fawn's task.

She continued crossing along the forest in this way, leaping from tree base to base, careful not to run headfirst into a trunk. Such was thirsty work, but she was heading for the lake anyway. A good hour passed before she arrived at the lake, panting in the cold. A few other does were already at the lake, along with their mates and fawns. "Morning!" She shouted toward them, trying hard not to sound masculine under her mask... it always seemed she could be mistaken for a stag due to how the mask reverbrated as she called, making her call sound much deeper than it was. Not waiting to recieve a nod or greeting from anyone in the family, she began to step her way toward the lake. Ice had coated over the lake completely, though it seemed to be thin ice. A good crack at it with one hoof would probably be enough to start a flow of drinking water. She took a few steps onto the ice before raising onto her hind hooves again, and stomping down on the ice. As expected, it gave way, though a bit more so than anticipated. "Eep!" she cried out, her front half plunging into the water, though her hind feet and half her back remained over the ice.

She wasn't stuck in her little mishap long before one of the others had approached her, pulling her back to the surface with his teeth, by tugging on one of her hind legs. Taking in a cold breath, Zerg coughed in the cold, casting shots of white breath into the air. She turned her head to look at her hero and smiled, though the expression was difficult to recognise. "Thanks." She said breathilly. "Welcome... though do try to be more careful." the stag advised, then hurrying off, as if taken by some other situation. Zerg tilted her head curiously, then looked toward the group just toward the edge of the lake. "Well! That's one way to wake up!" She proclaimed, being her usual roudy self before them. A few of the fawns had begun to laugh, now that they saw she was alright. Zerg walked off the ice, kicking up some snow as she hit the land again. It seemed the fawns had already torn up the snow in the area, so she wasn't so careful anymore about the beauty of the snow. "Who was that...?" she wondered, looking off in the direction the stag had dissappeared in. She failed to get a good look at him, though his voice was familiar, like that of a friend.
