I've watched this poor nameless deal with this mini for almost half an hour.
The mini's picto is Revenant, no bio. I know because this little pain came up
to my deer last night out of nowhere and started following him around raising
hell for no reason. Got a whole bunch of other deer riled up in the process and
wouldn't leave them alone long after I moved AWAY not wanting to deal with it.
To clarify I didn't really respond at all aside from bowing, sad emoting, and
headtilting since its actions made no sense.
Do we REALLY need to have this talk about how to treat nameless? I think the
unnecessary abuse is ridiculous and pointless. "OH but it's a character thing."
The character's super annoying then. Sorry, I'm pretty tolerant but one thing I
can't STAND is seeing nameless being tormented for no reason. Revenant came
up to this guy out of nowhere and started taunting, rearing, mooing and antlering
at it. Poor guy could be a new player who might not wanna join now because of
this treatment. The nameless tried to move away a number of times, bowed to
the mini, was sad emoting at it, it was very polite and still the mini followed and
kept on torturing it. Is there nothing else better to do in a day?
This morning even I saw a deer taunting and yelling at a nameless because they
wanted ANTLERS CAST on them. What's wrong with this image? It's a new player,
as if they know what you want or what to do. They won't understand the forest
language, they might not even know how to get spells. There's something
seriously wrong there. Ask a registered player to help you out, you've got no
right getting frustrated when you ask an innocent guest to cast on you and they
don't know how to.
Thankfully I rarely see it these days, I hope that's a good sign and that I'm just
not missing it when it does happen. I've been watching this mini do the same to a number
of others JUST today and seeing it flip out on the nameless pushed me over the edge,
I had to post it. If the owner of that mini sees this.. PLEASE reconsider your actions
towards nameless at the very least. Even my grumpy characters will go out of
character around them to be accomodating. It's how the community grows. Respect
them and realize that they won't understand and mean no harm. Really.

this mini was obviously a troll or something... because it reared and threw a tantrum like on this nameless agains several others as well so...i wouldn't really care for its actions since we can't influence it anyways and it is not representative for the 'normal' players...

Conversely, however, and just a little tidbit for thought...it's ironic that on innumerable occasions, deer that are present on the community go out of their way to blatantly ignore a nameless regardless of the emotes they do, but yet this is rarely ever brought up as something to dissuade new players from continuing the game. As a new player, wouldn't you be more inclined to at least live in a forest where you received negative attention as apposed to receiving absolutely none at all....? (Especially if you weren't necessarily sure what all the actions really meant)
Just my personal opinions, none meant to offend. I think you were right in trying to speak up for players that don't have a voice, in the end.

It is kind of interesting. The deer it attacked last night was my dear Sabastien who (anyone who knows him will agree) is a complete sweetheart in spite of looking a little daunting. He was playing with a fawn when that mini came up and started attacking him for no reason. He was very confused by this.. he was polite and welcoming to it, tried to nuzzle it and bow to it etc, but nothing would work.
What's weird is that it was helping cast pelts for him earlier too.. I have no idea.

You're either IC or you're not IC. In my opinion, there is no such thing as 'taking it too far'. You're either playing the character as it was designed/intended to be played or you are not; attacking nameless or not.
People can frown upon doing that, but in the end, I guess that is where people agree to disagree.

I just know that personally if that was my very first impression of this game I'd be like "wow.. this game's full of assholes, screw this" and leave. I'm glad my first experience in the forest WASN'T like that.

Anyway, I've never seen this deer, but the best way to avoid it is to ignore it, even if it's noisy. :]

Edit: Anyway, sorry for the ranting, I admit this helped me get it out of my system somewhat. It's just a pet peeve, and I know not everyone shares the same perspectives but this situation irked me way too much earlier. lC

It also knew how to get the pelt on a mini (since we saw it at the Twin Gods briefly), so... I assumed it was a TEFc person on an anonymous deer. Until I read this about harassing the nameless, I really thought they were pretty cool.
And re the discussion here... I think it's OK to have your deer act any way you want, as long as you are ALWAYS thinking of what the people playing the other characters may be seeing/thinking/feeling, and making sure none of your actions cross the line into what can be hurtful for the PLAYER.
If the deer is a nameless who is probably played by a younger person, brazenly testing emotes and whatever, it's more likely OK to stay IC, because yeah, they probably just want a reaction, no harm done even if your character "attacks back" (as long as you're not using that as an OOC way to convey you don't like what they're doing, because it won't be effective if they don't know what emotes mean what to begin with).
If the nameless seems to be a more sensitive new player, doing their best to respond to emotes and trying to interpret them, attacking isn't really considerate because they may not be aware it's IC but they MAY be aware it is an attack. That's why I'm sad to hear Revenant isn't making good choices. :I

It's more drawn to groups than individuals. Because of how noisy it was, I had to turn the sound off the game and I kept it off for like 30 minutes or so and it was still mooing at something.

There is a time and a place
New players, as others have stated need to learn a difference between what is right and what is wrong. If a player comes up to me while I'm on Nightmare and spellcasts me... I'm not going to roll and laugh, I'm going to act aggressive and let them know "Hey, you don't do that to this character." New players learn through actions and learn what's right and what's wrong. It's a common thing really I think, because if you don't let these new players know their limits. And they see something like this little mini deer futzing about doing this stuff (And getting reactions from others, etc.) they will then think it is all right for themselves to do it.
I can understand being upset about things, but this is just a common topic and anymore it's just getting quite... I dunno... repeated a lot? XD
Personally for me, in my defense I am rarely always at my computer when I am in forest... I HEAR Things but I often times do not respond to them (Unless it's an emergency and some ass decided to spell Nightmare or something LOL)

And, so when a naked deer comes up with my picto is it a game glitch or is it a nameless deer? Because I seem to attract a LOT of those. I was nice to it at first, the usual bow or sniff, but then didn’t do anything and it followed me everywhere, I tried shooing it off by shaking my head at it and lowering my antlers, but and that didn’t work. Then I just belted out and tried to EHSHCAPE. xD But, those are actual players? They’re not just glitches that mimic you?... Oh. xD hahaha

My awful description: someone who terrorizes and antagonizes other people (in this case deer) for the sake of getting a reaction and irritating the living hell out of them. 8D Basically they ignore all general rules and morals of this game to raise crap. :| And make it annoying / NOT fun to those around them. Usually it's not personal, they're just.. stupid.
