No recent traces of Clarence could be found today; scents were stale in the usual places. Pushed down his worry as best as he could, but the guilt of believing he is not doing enough for his son continued to haunt him. Went for a long walk to distract himself and stumbled upon Lats'vel among a little 'herd'. Overjoyed when Lats' promptly jumped up and ran over to greet him, playfully roughing each other up and exchanging nuzzles. The latter gesture had become second nature, much to the sable's surprise. Romped around with him for a bit, and then Creusilliana and Rossamund as well after they became acquainted. Was briefly introduced to Rajih, whom Ivan greeted warmly. A friend of Lats' is a friend of his, after all. More romping ensued, with Rhea joining in as well.

Lats' soon became distracted by a doe off in the distance (Miriam), whom he promptly went over to. Ivan kept the little ones behind on top of the dandelion hill where he could keep an eye on the boar while frolicking with Creu and Rossamund. Assumed that the deer was just a stranger and that the boar was merely investigating. Before he knew it Lats' was chasing the doe, who in turn charged at the little ones. Scrambled to throw himself between her and her targets, appearing to direct most of her aggression at Rossamund. Pushed her back whenever he could, though stayed out of the fray as Lats' and the Things eventually managed to close in on her. Warily watched, staying with Rossamund, Creu and Rhea (the latter of which, of course, threw herself into the mosh pit on more than one occasion but hey what can ya doooo).

Relieved when Miriam finally ran off, but not without delivering visible damage to Lats', the Things and Rhea. Stood warily by the little ones for a bit while Lats' scoped out for signs of the doe if she were to return. Soon nuzzles and respectful nods were delivered all-around by everyone. The sable was concerned for Lats' and Rhea the most, but the hyena seemed better off than the boar. Lats' wandered back toward where Ivan first saw him, and the sable beckoned the others to follow. The Twins derped around for a bit and Rhea stood vigilant. Ivan gave her another nuzzle before settling down beside Lats', who sat near Kusabi and a sleeping Kaeltiir. The boar got up quickly however, and made it known that he wished to be alone. Lats' was apologetic about it, but the sable understood. Concerned for the boar, but knew that he would be alright. Watched his comrade wander off once more. Bowed to a now-awake Kusabi, who returned the gesture, and then settled down again with Rossamund. Later joined by Creu and Kaeltiir after Kusabi went away for the night. Sat vigilant over all three, wary and silent.

(And then more happened later but GUESS WHAT TOO TIRED TO THINK SO UM will add everything in tomorrow sob)

"Please don't ever disappear like that again, little one..."

[AAHHH PLAYER IS A SILLY GOOSE AND THOUGHT THAT THE DOE WITH THE PICTO THAT IS REMARKABLY SIMILAR TO LATS' PICTO WAS NOT, IN FACT, LATS'. (Ivan was about to laugh 5ever too; he thought that Lats' got spelled with nubby antlers kjahdfs -crawls under a rock-]

Sojourned to Clarence's tree and remarked it, as the scents there were growing stale. Did the same for his own tree in the birch, but his son's scent was stronger here. This was comforting. Wandered around for a bit, the forest being pleasantly quiet in the sleepy hours of early dawn. Perked up when he picked up on a very familiar scent, and trotted toward the ruins to find Rhea in the company of a stag that he vaguely remembered (Kusabi). Ah that's right, he had seen him at the time of Mieraak's and Kaeltiir's birth. And now that he thought about it, he may have seen Kusabi with Pandora once or twice. Also marveled over the fact that Rhea had grown. Up until now, upon her sudden disappearance, he was worried that she would never return. It was a relief to see that she was alright. Found that he was more prone to becoming worried much more easily, but too weary to do anything about it.

Hesitated when the hyena cub did not notice him, and then decided to sit off a ways. After all, if he was the Kusabi then he wouldn't want random strangers showing up all close and personal either. Was soon noticed and greeted by a baby creature that looked very familiar to him (Tiny Teeth). In the sense that, along with having seen her before, she was also remarkably similar to an animal from his world (cheetah). Had a nasty run-in with one a long time ago, but she is a sweet cub; harmless, aside from those adorably needly teeth. Gently greeted her with a few sniffs, not wanting to startle her and so stood relatively still.

Tiny Teeth returned to the Kusabi's side soon after that, which seemed to get Rhea's attention. She immediately spazzed and ran over to Ivan for nuzzles and playtime, both of which he happily provided. The Kusabi momentarily forgotten, he romped around with the hyena for a short while until she abruptly stopped and beckoned him to come sit with them. Drew a little closer, but hesitated once again. Kept his distance when the Kusabi was roused, further keeping still when the old stag approached him. Leaned in for a couple of sniffs, and was pleasantly surprised when the other bull invited him to sit. Obliged of course, settling down beside a sleeping Tiny Teeth. Feels tense for some reason, but pushing it aside. Trying to relax as the morning sun begins to climb higher in the sky.

Fell asleep at some point. Woke up much later to see that his company had departed. Groggily got up and wandered into the birch, laying down for another nap. Feel unusually exhausted. ... Later became aware of Clarence's warm presence. Comforted by this, though remained sleep for now (player is afk off-and-on, I promise he'll be up and about soon dear ♥ TnT).

"I just want you to be safe..."

Woke up and sat at Clarence's tree for most of the day, trying not to worry for his son but could not prevent his thoughts from returning to the buck's well-being and safety. Felt a familiar presence behind him, and was surprised to see Reed watching him. Invited him to sit, realizing that he would greatly appreciate some company to help take his mind off things. It helped somewhat, and the sable soon fell asleep in the red bull's quiet company. Stirred awake from a sharp ringing sound, and then...whoa, did the world just get wayyy bigger? Nope, just a tiny Ivan!rabbit, destined to spread cuteness and pellets wherever he hops. Chased around his culprit (Lats'vel, of course!) in good fun after getting over the initial shock of being zapped into a tiny fluffy creature with the intense desire to hump everything that moved. Reed probably sensed this and made a break for it.

Figured out a way to get rid of the spell when his humiliation levels reached their peak, which seemed to bum out the boar. Amused by this, and humored the other male when he was led to a magic mushroom circle. Allowed himself to be pelted with a few more animal spells before Lats' reached the apparently desired result: mini! Ivan was surprised to find that he liked it, but anything was better than being a rabbit or squirrel! Had a blast chasing the boar around, biting at his heels and having dance-n-sparring parties. Noticed that Reed was lingering; tried to get him to play, but the bull moved off. Wasn't too surprising; the situation must've been a little too weird for him. Oh well. Derped around with Lats' for quite a bit before the two collapsed in the flower patch that Pandora's children were born in. Totally tuckered out!

Awoke a while later when he realized that there was no longer warmth beside him. Lats' was gone, and the spell had apparently worn off. Stretched his regrown limbs, then got excited when he picked up on Clarence's scent. Followed it to his own tree in the birch, and then gently nuzzled his son, careful not to wake him. Was startled when Lats' soon arrived in a huff, pawing at the ground as if attempting to get Ivan to come with him (in retrospect he might have been asking for both Ivan and Clarence to come back with him, but I'm not quite sure on that asjdf). The sable invited him to sit with them instead; he was too concerned about his son to leave him. Was not surprised but equally devastated when Lats' refused the invitation. Watched the boar leave all grumpy-like, feeling a little frustrated. Was happy when Clarence soon stirred awake, but the old worries came creeping back when the sable's nuzzles were not returned. Disturbed by the physical state his son was in as well.

Gently gestured for the buck to sit down and rest, but Clarence wanted to lead him somewhere. Obliged, too tired to argue, but felt some panic stir within him and Clarence wandered back towards Lats'vel. He knew that the two had not been on the best of terms, as much as he was trying to help them reconcile. Fear for his son's safety came back full force; demanded that the buck return to the birch, but Clarence was persistent. The sable began to grow angry when Clarence grew more defiant and would not obey, even going so far as react aggressively. Ivan had to calm himself down before he got roiled up, though still felt disturbed by this new behavior. He knew he could not control the buck forever, but he was still so young. Gave in and warily closed the distance between the two of them and the boar, just concerned for Clarence's safety at this point. Tensed when Lats'vel noticed their presence and quickly bowed, and was relieved when Lats' seemed alright with the change of scenery. Was further relieved when Clarence kept his distance and offered a comforting nuzzle. Stiffly returned it, as he was still very much put off by his behavior earlier. It did not matter; there were greater issues at hand.

Wearily settled down with his son off to the boar's side, his head filled with many thoughts and troubles. He was less worried about Pig's reception of his son (no intent of violence has ever been shown), and more of his son's well-being. Feels immense guilt and worry, and uncertainty. Cannot remember if any of his past little ones had been in bad situations, and how he remedied them. Relying strictly on instinct at this point. As much as he fought against it, he soon fell into a deep sleep, comforted only by the scents of his son and the boar.

"They are beautiful. Congratulations, both of you."

Upon waking up, the antelope was bombarded with many scents that clung together like static to wool. Immediately concluded that there was a very large congregation close by, but for what? Curiosity led him to discover that there were indeed deer scattered about in small groups near the ruins. Picked Lats'vel out of the crowd and sauntered over to greet him. The boar returned the gesture but just as quickly began to gently drive him back. Confused at first, but then noticed that Pandora was also nearby and being watched over by her mate and Umay. She seemed to be in pain, but she wasn't wounded. Why would...ohhh... And ta-da, it all clicked into place.

Sat his butt down when Lats' was satisfied with the bull's distance, bowing before doing so. Excited for the parents-to-be, but also a little on edge. Warily kept on eye on their surroundings, but everything ended up going very smoothly. Witnessed the birth of Kaeltiir and Mieraak. Feels humbled, joyous and at peace. Wishes the new parents the very best and is happy to see that the fawns are in good health and spirits.

Eventually wandered off for a while to give them space (a.k.a. I had to go to work pfft adult responsibilities). Returned later and was surprised to see that Pandora was not around; Lats'vel appeared to be babysitting the fawns. Was greeted warmly by the boar and was even briefly introduced to the little ones. Noticed that Lats' kept himself between the bull and the fawns, and understood why: to keep the bonding minimized to the parents and guardians, at least for now. Kept a respectful distance and enjoyed a brief romp with the boar. Lats' soon quieted down however. A curious Mieraak got to sniff Ivan again before dashing behind a tree. Patiently and bemusedly watched the fawn slooowly creep closer towards them. *cue Jaws theme*

Lounged with Lats' for a while, later joined by Clarence. Joyfully greeted his son and romped for a bit, but concerned when the boar appeared to be agitated by his presence. Tried to draw him closer to them, but quickly decided it would be wise to give him the space. Kept a little bit of it between the boar and Clarence, not wanting to push it. Pleased when Lats' stuck around regardless. Pestered by a nameless and briefly met Ariana while coaxing Lats' to stay with them. Didn't pursue the boar when he wandered off again when the nameless returned; certainly didn't wish to stress him out more. Guided his son back to his tree in the birch when Ariana left. Huffed and ignored the nameless who followed them, ain't worth it. Tried to relax after it left; pondered over the little predicament between his son and the Baconator.

"Hm..."

Woke up to a pleasant sight: twilight in the forest. Was relieved to find that there were no humiliating bubbles to be had this time. Trotted around for a bit to loosen up his muscles and fetched a long drink at the pond. Tested the air for familiar scents and followed Pig's, finding Galene's mixed in there as well. Found them near the Old Oak, but did not approach too closely as they appeared to be in the throes of conversation or perhaps an argument. Did not wish to interrupt, and so he focused on two strangers nearby (Ourania and Toukan), greeting both of them albeit feeling awkward that he was standing off to the side when Lats' glanced in his direction. Felt unsure about approaching even after Galene departed. Eh, he'll bug the Baconator later.

Noticed a young doe (Ariana) a little ways from them, and was taken aback when she appeared frightened as he greeted her from afar. She backed away and he moved towards her, and so he stayed where he was and encouraged her to come to him instead. Pleased when she did so and ventured for a sniff, returning it with a friendly nod. Concerned to see that she was wounded, but knew that it was not his business to demand what happened. Continued to stand awkwardly, undecided if he should leave or not. When Ariana sat down he began to walk away, but stopped when she called to him. Looking back, he saw that she was inviting him to sit with her. Warmed by this and accepted, enjoying the quiet evening with his companion.

Later joined by Rhea, and was surprised to see that she was growing up quickly. Curious as to why she wasn't her usual bouncy, playful self, but he was content to simply sit with her nevertheless.

"I am so relieved you're alright, my son."

Awoke at the tree that he and his son had claimed, feeling very strange...anxious, on-edge. His worry for his missing son has begun to creep into panic. Marked their tree until his withers were sore, despaired that was no fresh scent left behind by Clarence. Spent a good while running through the forest and scenting the air, but could find no trace of the buck. Found a strange-looking fawn (Lohtu) sleeping by himself out in the open and watched over him for a while, trying to calm himself and rationalize through his fears. Did not remember falling asleep, but was awoken by Lohtu sniffing his face. Got up and was happy to see that the fawn wished to play. Romped around with the little one for a while, the distraction helping him forget of his worries. They returned, however, when Lohtu eventually bid him farewell. Was sad to see the fawn go. Wandered back to Clarence's tree and sat blankly, unsure of what to do now.

Was starting to fade from consciousness when he was suddenly hit with magic, changing the color of his pelt. Leapt up, caught off guard and miffed, but relaxed when he saw that the perpetrator was the ever-adorable Rhea. Joyous to see her, and greeted her with nuzzles before engaging in quite a long romp that included flower-sparring. Impressed with the amount of energy that the pup contained in that itty-bitty body, and soon found himself struggling to keep up with her. Amused by this, thinking he's getting older more quickly than he thought.

Began to grow gloomy and tired again despite the joy that prancing about with Rhea gave him. Did not want to drag the pup down with his change in demeanor, and so covered it up as best as he could with smiles and playful fake-outs. Noticed that Mire, Lats', Fletcher and Pandora were resting nearby, and so he guided Rhea to the dandelion hill (which he assumed where she was earlier before she sought him out). Settled down beside Mire and was warmed and relieved when Rhea stayed by his side. Didn't take long for him to fall asleep once again.

Woke up to a disturbing sight: Lats' had somehow cloned himself and was performing some bizarro ritual dance around a peacock'd Pandora. The hell, Pig? Stared at the scene mesmerized for a while before deciding that he was getting really weirded out and snapped himself out of it. It was then he saw that Clarence had returned! Jumped up and promptly showered his son in an embarrassing amount of nuzzles, then led him off to the side of the freakshow scene to romp for a bit (plus the lag was awful, THANKS KA SKJFH <3). Got turned into a frog by a drive-by animal spell. Horrified and hopped around in a panic before figuring out how to get rid of. Never doing that again! Icky. Eventually settled down with his son and the usual crew, relieved that Clarence was safe. Decided to not be so panicky; the buck was growing up fast, and he mustn't hover over his son. Ivan had forgotten how tough it is to be a daddy, bawh.

"Well done, both of you."

Was stirred awake by a loud scuffle near the ruins. Got up to investigate and found Lats'vel and Pandora, along with two deer he was not familiar with (Umay and Kody), fighting against a fierce-looking creature (Kahli). Stayed behind at a distance and followed, knowing that his assistance was not needed but kept an eye on his comrades nevertheless.

Relieved when the fight was diverted away from the boar and pregnant Nevermore; it seemed to be under control. Lats' didn't appear too worried, anyway, so that was also reassuring. It was then that Ivan noticed a doe in labor not too far away, with her mate watching over her (Ochiba and Takeshi). Uncertain about being in the area at first, but again, Lats'vel was reassuring enough and invited him to sit. Did so, and was surprised that the soon-to-be-father did not react aggressively when more deer arrived to watch at a respectful distance. Realized that this may be a normal occurrence in the forest, and relaxed. Well, somewhat. Stayed alert in case if any threats were to come crashing in as they tended to do around here, but all was peaceful. Later joined by Rhea; warmed when she cuddled up to him. D'awh~

Witnessed the birth of Ayako, Sayuri and Yoko. Feels proud of Ochiba despite not knowing her (delivering triplets is an extremely respectable feat!), and quietly wished both parents the best of luck with their little ones. His heart aches beneath the joy, and he fears that it is in connection to his past. Pushing it aside as best he can, concentrating on his company with Rhea and Lats'.

Sat for a long while, later found himself left alone as Lats' went off to speak with Galene and Rhea wandered off as well. Eventually sojourned from the scene of the birth back to his and Clarence's tree. Feels his worry over his son coming back in full-force; mood has shifted to anxious and gloomy. Rubbed the tree a few times, but was careful to leave his son's scent. Having it there brings some comfort to him. Laid down, but too troubled to sleep. Eventually got up to join Lats'vel at his own tree and managed to finally fall asleep beside the boar.

•••

"You coward...fight ME!"

Scented for Clarence but could not find him. Worried for his son and wishes to know the origins of his injuries so that he may track down the culprit. Marked their tree and then his own in the birch before settling down in the sun for some rest, senses keen for his son's arrival. Still mystified and puzzled over the fact that Clarence grew three times his fawn size overnight, but takes comfort in the fact that nothing aside from appearance has changed about his son.

Later woke up to find Reed curled up asleep next to him. Confused by this, but doesn't mind the company from the stag. Noticed a strange and non-threatening creature off to the side (Qian) and managed to coax her closer to them. Sat between them and remained awake and watchful as his company dozed. Still worried about Clarence, but not letting his fears consume him. Keeping a clear head and mind.

Eventually got restless and scented for Lats'vel; encouraged Qian to follow him and she did so albeit hesitantly. Was confused by what he saw when he got closer, but it appeared as if Reed and Mateo had been in a fight. Lats' was putting up a fuss and squealed when Ivan attempted to greet both Mateo and Reed. Managed to get a friendly sniff out of the latter, satisfied by this. Was beckoned over by the pushy pig and followed along with Rhea back to the three trees. Beginning to realize he doesn't mind being submissive to the giant boar, despite his fluctuation between respect and apprehension. They were later joined for the newborn fawn Erari and were soon "terrorized" by a rambunctious fawn that made Lats' tree her personal playground. Was annoyed by the spectacle, but couldn't help but be amused by the boar's reaction to the invasion.

The "threat" was soon neutralized when the fawn presumably got bored and wandered away. A bit o' romping ensued between the bulls and the fawns; Ivan attempted to teach Erari a couple of defensive moves, and she seemed to get the hang of it. Pleased, but didn't want to overwork her. Surprised when Lats'vel rubbed on and nuzzled him more than once, but welcomed it without protest. Really doesn't mind it (oooo~). Dorked around a bit more, soon joined and greeted by Pandora.

Went to coax Erari over to the group so that they can keep a better eye on her...and just as he got her near the tree a stag charged through and practically plowed her over. Outraged by the violent intrusion; lowered his horns in a clear warning for the stranger to back off, to which the stag immediately responded by continuously charging Erari, then Rhea and then the pregnant Pandora. Ivan and Lats'vel chased the stag for a brief while and managed to drive the cowardly douchenozzle away, losing sight and scent of the boar at some point. Managed to pick up Pandora's now-familiar scent and found her and the fawns hidden away in the ruins. Nuzzled the frightened Erari, reassuring her she was safe before standing guard, adrenaline still coursing through him. On edge, especially since he still did not know where Clarence was. Worried, paranoid, exhausted. Stood watch with Lats'vel who eventually rejoined them.

•••

"Easy, now..."

Oh, you know, just another day in the life of Ivan the babysitter. n_n

In all seriousness, tho. Watched over Lats'vel, who is injured and also dazed. Ivan recognizes the symptoms, but is not sure of the name of the condition (a concussion). Stood guard, sniffing at strangers who wandered up to them but politely keeping them clear of the concussed boar. Concerned of how Lats' would react otherwise in his condition if it got too crowded.

•••

"That was just what I needed."

Woke up in the birch, feeling unusually stiff in the joints. Tested the air for Clarence, but could not pick up on his scent. Wandered toward the fawn's favorite tree, hoping to find him there, but no such luck. Rubbed on the tree for a bit to imprint his scent; he is becoming possessive of the landmark. Got a drink and took a much-needed bath in the Crying Idol's tears. Picked up on Lats'vel's scent when the wind shifted and decided to see what was up.

Found the boar, Lieva and Galene at Reed's logs; sat nearby, giving them their space. Charmed when Lats' encouraged him to come over; gladly sat with them. They were soon joined by an adorable cub named Rhea; the sable had a blast leaping about with her, burning off his excess energy and waking up his stubborn joints. Pandora arrived and joined in on the chaos. Got a little jumpy when Galene nuzzled his bum out of nowhere, but he liiiked it (uhuehuehuuue~). Romped about with the cub for a while longer, then settled down with her and Pandora back at the logs while Lats'vel kept guard over a very quiet Lieva.

"Alright, alright."

Once upon a time, there was a very bored sable antelope named Ivan. One day Ivan woke up and smelled a pig. He decided that he would very much like to sit on it. And breathe heavily in its ear. Because why the hell not? Turns out Piggy don't like that. Also, Piggy is very upset about something-or-other. Piggy is complicated. Ivan gets the hint and makes half a dozen pouty faces. Piggy is still not amused. Fiiine. And so Ivan decided to chill with a dragon, a fire-fawn and a mild-mannered doe instead. The end~

...a wild Clarence appeared! Happy Ivan is happy. c:

Much later... Woke up surrounded by Lats', Tea, Alina and Castallion. Relieved that Lats' was being calm and friendly with the oryx. Ivan then had his first spell-spam party, awh~ Somehow ended up looking like Alina and couldn't stop giggling like a little girl about it. Alina herself didn't seem very amused, but could he blame her? Lats' started rubbing on him, wasn't sure what to think of that but was cool with it. Also got an epic back-massage via giant piggy-face, mm.

When everything died down, Pig started acting all weird and charged into trees like a doof. Ivan watched for a while, concerned but not sure what to do. He didn't want to step in between a giant boar and a tree. Patiently gestured for Lats' to follow him until he finally took notice, then guided him to the edge of the cliff overlooking the pond (in retrospect, that was probably a poor location choice for unstable pigs). Pleased when Lats' sat calmly with him for the rest of the night, concerns fading for now.

"...yawnnn..."

Literally wandered around for ten seconds before deciding to flop hornsfirst into a sexy, warm sunspot. Feels good, mannn. Had a cat-nap before being rudely awoken by some giant pig-like, non-Lats' thing (Kaars) crashing by him. Grumpily got up and moved to the birch. Found a crow and teased it a little, then almost had a stroke when it turned into a deer. A little annoyed by being caught off-guard, but fascinated when it reverted back into a bird at will.

A lone fawn caught his eye, and made friendly gestures when it appeared to be scared. Eventually got it to come closer for a sniff; the fawn warmed up to him quickly and the three played together for a short while. Almost had another stroke when the crow transformed again. Stop doing thaaat! Noticed a strange doe (Jin!deer) standing off to the side, watched curiously before closing in for a better look. She was pretty friendly and even frolicked with them for a bit, though the fawn seemed a little nervous around her. The crow disappeared in the meanwhile, bummer. The doe soon said goodbye and wandered off, and the fawn eventually poofed too. Wandered back to his tree for another nap because his player wants to finally drawww~ c:

"I am either getting old, or you are just way too hyper for your own good."

Wandered in the birch for a while upon awaking, feeling nostalgic and marking a couple of trees. Recognized a scent and followed it, soon finding Blair. Hesitated, then approached slowly when she noticed him. Exchanged friendly sniffs and sat with her for a bit, only to soon feel a presence behind them. Got up to face the newcomer: Reed. Recognized the stag and eyed him warily, not sure what the bull wanted. Managed to get close enough to sniff, but recoiled when Reed spat at him. Confused by this, not sure what it meant but was irritated nevertheless. Annoyed when Reed kept moving close to him and rubbed on one of Ivan's marked trees. Saw it as a challenge, but didn't want to start trouble; decided to watch Reed carefully, trying to decipher him.

Kept on his guard, growing more irritable as Reed kept getting up in his face; didn't like it one bit and showed his displeasure. Predictably, it didn't work. Reed managed to eventually sniff him without spitting so that was a definite improvement. Confusion grew when Reed began to circle and move more erratically, dipping his antlers; didn't come off as particularly aggressive to the sable. Eventually realized that the stag wanted to spar, and couldn't resist the temptation. Previous awkwardness aside, the two scuffled about for a long while, tagging and butting and leaping around each other. Impressed by the stag's boundless energy and did his best to keep up. Quickly felt more at ease as Reed's playful nature came out. Tussled until Ivan felt wobbly; "surrendered" and invited Reed to sit with him, Blair and Clarence. Pleased when the stag accepted, plopping down nearby as the sable (discreetly) caught his breath.

"That went better than I thought."

Slept in the birch for a while, grouchy from yesterday's stressful events. Later caught Lats' scent and roused himself, irritable and debating. His pride eventually got the better of him, remembering with shame how he had fled instead of stood his ground. Caved in and wandered towards Lats' tree, settling down nearby with a huff. Soon passed out again, not really caring of the consequences.

Awoke to find Clarence curled up against him; immediately felt better. Got up when Lats'vel stared his way, and slowly approached. Awkwardly offered a couple of bows, as he had learned that this is a form of respect in the forest. Lats' seemed unsure, but didn't try to drive him away again. Got a sniff in before deciding to give the boar some space. Realized that Lats' was upset with Clarence for some reason, and decided to not take any chances. Directed Clarence away when things started getting hectic around the three trees; deer were everywhere, and he was afraid for the fawn's safety. Got agitated when a doe, Zahava, began to taunt Clarence. Managed to drive her away; he was already on edge from all of the crowding deer. Agitated again when she later returned to sniff at him and Clarence; didn't want to start anything in front of the fawn, and so he let his charge move closer and greet the doe while he kept a close eye on her. After all that, she seemed to pose less of a threat than she did before. Still very wary, but letting it slide this time.

Guided Clarence to a tree further from the chaos and gently tapped the ground. 'Stay here.' Pleased when the fawn understood. Jumped into the fray with Lats'vel, Fletcher and Galene, happy to be able to romp with them again. Kept an eye on Clarence the whole time, never straying too far from his charge. Feeling more energized and at ease. Amused by the jumpy Scarecrow, but managed to get close enough for a sniff before the oddball bolted and ran around like his bum was on fire. Later got reacquainted with Zahava, sniffing her a few more times. May remain wary if she is near Clarence; has a nagging feeling that something is off about her. More general derping, then eventually returned to the sleeping fawn's side. Watched Reed when he got really close, curious but also wary. When he felt there was no problem, he settled down. What a day!

"What is wrong? ...what did I do?"

Awoke to find himself in the company of a feisty crow (Marise). Warmly greeted her and played around with her a little, being mindful of her wings. Suddenly and inexplicably, like three fawns (Tea, two unknown and Aurik) were magnetized to him so he decided to do a little sittin' of the babies. Alina showed up as well. Approached by Indi, attempted to draw her closer but backed off when she showed displeasure. Soon found by Lats'vel and was quickly confused by the pig's oddly aggressive behavior. Took forever for the sable to realize that Lats' was trying to draw him away, so Ivan was all eh okay and managed to get one of the fawns to go with them.

Trouble started when Alina decided to follow, prompting Ivan to try to get Tea to sit with him by Lats' tree. Startled and confused when Lats' started to shove him around, and not playfully. Couldn't get the hint for a while. Finally understood when Lats' beckoned him away only to have their paths crossed by Tea...but when Ivan turned around, Lats' was gone. Ran back to Lats' tree, but the much larger animal began to drive him off again. Growing frightened, the sable turned to his last resort and bolted for the birch. Banged his horns against his tree and bellowed, angered and confused. Calmed slightly when Ntombi appeared at his side, and he beckoned for her to sit with him. Feeling humiliated for running, and ashamed for leaving behind the fawns. Passed out cold at her side. Later sensed Clarence beside him as well and cuddled up to the fawn before drifting off again, keeping him warm.

"...zzt..."

Today was a laaazy day. Slept through most of it, mostly in the birch next to one of his favorite trees. Was awoken by a very familiar scent and found Clarence doing his best impression of a ninja between a pair of boulders nearby. Happily romped with his charge, stretching his legs and working the kinks out of his sleepy joints. A very rude nameless soon charged at the pair and almost knocked Clarence over, eliciting a very aggravated response from the antelope. Drove the intruder away, and that seemed to impress the fawn. Ego inflation, engaged!

They romped some more are were soon joined by Lats'vel. Roughhouse time! Had a blast messing around with the pig, though yelled at him when Lats' screamed in his ear. Not cool, pig! Damnit. Got him back by ramming him in the ass a few times...with some difficulty. Dat ass high off the ground. Group soon got bigger with random durrs joining in. Ivan recognized the oryx from before and attempted to invite her to romp, but to no avail; she kept retreating, and so he gave up and continued to harass Lats' and an unknown deer who the antelope took delight in sparring with. Briefly inspected a creature he'd never seen before (a mare, Velis) and later, Rhoda. Greeted Pandora and pranced around with her briefly. Soon the group dissipated, prompting Ivan to pass out while Lats' and Pan yakked away for eight years. The antelope is officially pooped! Snores abound.

"That smell is horrific, but...the color is oddly fitting. Eh."

When the sable stirred awake, he was relieved to find that it was daylight again. Or at least, way lighter out than it was yesterday. Wandered toward the pond for a drink when he noticed yet another peculiar sight: a giant flower, taller than him! Baffled, he inspected the mammoth dandelion and experimentally bumped his horns against it. Whoa, that's one sturdy stem. Naturally, the next course of action was to rub all over that business.

Suddenly, another deer! It seemed friendly enough as it sniffed at him curiously. Wary beside his new property, he returned the gesture and disgruntedly watched as the stranger gave the dandelion a rub as well. Damnit... Huffed and rubbed all over the flower again, imprinting his scent more vigorously...then suddenly, another deer! Er, a teeny one (Aurik). Greeted the little one, then grumped again as it happily marked the dandelion as well. Playfully taunted the little one and was surprised when it mockingly returned the sass; amused and pleased by its spunkiness. Decided that it was a pretty cool cat in his book. Grunted his approval and pawed the ground, inviting Aurik to sit with him beside his dandelion, and was pleased when the little one accepted.

Later... Picked up on an already familiar scent and abandoned his post at the dandelion to trot around Lats'vel, boldly sniffing at the pig and his tree before plopping down nearby with a huff. Finds himself fascinated by the massive pigthing; a familiar creature to him, yet also not. Staring contest, initiated. Soon rejoined by the ever-adorable Clarence, much to his delight. Immediately doted over the little one and later joined in on a derpy romp with the fawn, Lats'vel and Pandora. Didn't even mind that the pig was covered in blood because that is totally METAL and MANLY. Did his best to dodge flying hooves and giant piggyface lest he get knocked into a coma. Warming up quickly to Lats' roughhouse nature. Things soon settled down; watched over a sleeping Clarence while Lats' chilled nearby at his tree.

"You are an interesting fellow, oh yes."

Woke up to a much different forest from yesterday and promptly began to wig out. Darkness, bats, giant flaming things, massive mushrooms and...bubbles?? In an attempt to bugle in frustration, Ivan was only rewarded with a giant snot bubble that only managed to further flip him out. Trotted about in a huff, snorting and tossing in a fussy display that soon attracted the interest of two strange males (Mire and Lats'vel).

Eventually became aware the two were following him and tensed himself for a fight, only to quickly realize that the other males were merely being playful...maybe? Huffed about, aggravated but not wishing to start a tussle, Ivan soon gave in and humored them by returning the favor while keeping on his guard. Was startled by the giant pig's charges, even when he found that Lats was psyching him out. Boldly returned the false charges and was amused when the pig suddenly left in a huff. Decided to stick around, watching the other male named Mire make a general fool of himself.

The lesson for today: crazies are abound in this forest. And it is ever so amusing.

Later... Settled down by a tree near Pandora and Mire, keeping a watchful eye and pleasantly surprised when the doe came over to sniff him. Returned the gesture, then respectfully kept his distance when she returned to the sleeping stag. Soon fell asleep, but stirred awake when he felt a very big presence standing over him. Lats'vel! Surprised, but quickly composed himself, this time prepared for the pig's roughhouse advances. Bemusedly returned the charges, unperturbed despite the other male's size, and blew some bubbles with the playful boar. Felt warmed when Lats' appeared to invite him over to Mire and Pandora, but decided to settle back down at his tree. No offense at all to his new acquaintances, he just likes his space sometimes. Quietly continued to enjoy their company from a small distance, feeling more relaxed than he did earlier.

Golden light filtered through

Golden light filtered through the peaceful wood, shining gently on the swaying grasses. Gentle hoof falls sounded softly on the matted ground as small hooves touched upon it. Light played across fur sprinkled with fawn spots as the fawn paused a short distance away to scent the air. Two strange and one familiar filled the widened nostrils. Hesitantly, he stepped forward and let out a soft call to wake his sleeping friend. One hoof in the air, then down. Waiting, slender legs folded under the small body. Soon the great sleek head lifted and scented in his direction, strong legs hefting the bull antelope into the air gracefully. He soon followed, approaching his large friend and pressing his face into the larger's neck. "Big Blue, are you... how say... alrighd?" A step back and large green eyes looked up in to the other's searchingly.
Salka's picture

The sable had been lightly

The sable had been lightly dozing for a while, curled up in a sunspot surrounded by long grasses. His company tonight had been lax, but he didn't mind at all; he enjoyed the quiet sometimes. As acute his senses were even in sleep, Ivan did not hear the light footfalls of the fawn as he approached. Nary a blade of grass was crushed beneath Clarence's small hooves; it was the soft call that finally stirred him awake. Not just himself, but also that familiar instinct that was beginning to grow: a paternal duty.

One large ear flicked as Ivan opened his amber eyes, scenting the fawn and grunting happily as he pulled himself to his feet. Closing the distance between them, the sable gently leaned into the fawn and tussled his hair with his muzzle. One would swear that there was actually a smile there, something he was never able to do in his other life.

Another ear tipped at Clarence's question, that faint of a smile still there, and the sable nodded his great head while lightly tapping his hoof. He gazed down at the young one, seeing the brightness and curiosity in his green eyes. Tipping his head, the sable frowned lightly when he noticed fresh bruises on the fawn's legs. His eyes searched Clarence's own, concerned. Softly he huffed, then indicated to the bruises with his snout, tilting his head again. He seemed to transit the same question back to the fawn: "Are you alright?"

[Eep, I just noticed that Clarence poofed. I'm sorry if Ivan missed his good-bye; I had the forest on mute because I was listening to music. :/]

idiosyncrasies's picture

A wide grin split his face as

A wide grin split his face as filtered light shifted and played across it, adding depth and light to those eyes as green as the young grass that the fawn so often trod upon. Those bright sparks closed momentarily in happiness as the messy hair upon his head was gently ruffled. From another he might have objected, but this was Ivan.

Was there a slight tilt to the other's sleek muzzle? The fawn's large ears- like shells- tilted curiously as his nose wrinkled in befuddlement. Tendrils of warmth were spreading slowly in his chest, the physical sensation of an emotion frequently rejected by the small one; affection and trust. Shaking his head, slender legs burst into a flurry motion and the slight body of the fawn sprang into the air before trotting circles around the bull.

"Pfff. Dese are jus' bruises." A slight skitter and almost-fall onto the ground later found the fawn underneath Ivan's great white expanse of a belly. Grinning still, he pushed forward and peeked out and up, up, into the concerned eyes of his protector. "Bruises are nodin"

(No dear my internet is being silly. ;n; That's why he poofed early last night too; I'm sorry.)
Salka's picture

Concerns momentarily lifted

Concerns momentarily lifted as the fawn suddenly began to prance and trot around the sable, prompting a gentle rumbling sound in Ivan's chest that was his own equivalent of a chuckle. Playfully half-rearing and tapping his hooves, he watched with great warmth as the fawn bounded about with carefree will. There was a small and brief feeling of panic when Clarence almost fell and disappeared beneath him, but with a swing of his great neck he saw the fawn grinning up at him, unperturbed. Bruises are nothing, indeed. Ivan's smile seemed to broaden, nodding his head with a soft huff. The fawn shared his own philosophy, only instead of bruises Ivan thought the same of scars. Scars were nothing, and yet they were also everything. Still, he wished that the fawn would be more careful.

Leaning down, the sable tussled the fawn's hair again before giving him a playful nudge, tail flicking about. Ivan then jumped to the side, graceful despite his stocky frame, and lightly 'tagged' Clarence's shoulder before bouncing off more to the side with an encouraging grunt. He paused, crouching slightly, and then did a fake-out before trotting around the fawn, a manner not unlike a puppy's, huffing happily all the while.

[Ohh I see, no worries hon! Silly internets, indeed. >: Also I must say, Clarence makes my heart melt! He is so adorably clumsy and sweet. ;u;]

idiosyncrasies's picture

Suddenly, a soft nose against

Suddenly, a soft nose against his face and nudge heralded the warm, pillar like legs that the fawn's small body was leaning against launch away. Staggering, he let out a startled "mau" and hopped forward, tail tucked between legs. The removal of the expansive white belly above was disconcerting and he shook his head, snorting and chasing after his rapidly moving friend.

He soon paused when he heard the soft sounds emitting from the sable. Ears forward, head cocked, he gazed searchingly at the prancing bull while the wind ruffled gently at fur and grass. What could he be up to? Lost momentarily in thought, the goings-on around him were unnoticed until a nudge to his shoulder caused him to spring into the air, startled. Watching the blue one weave and dance in the grass, something tickled in the back of his mind. A glimmer of light like the sun peeking out behind the clouds for a brief moment. Happily, he huffed back and puffed his tiny chest out, ears back mockingly. Then, he attempted a fake charge and dodged to the side.

(Oh these two. <3 -sobs- ;u; I always get the warm fuzzies when they interact)
Salka's picture

Later on, Ivan would look

Later on, Ivan would look back at his own sudden springiness and snort to himself. He needed to be more careful, as the fawn seemed a little startled. The sable simply didn't know what to do with his bulky body when he got playful. Hm, yes, he'll definitely need to be less of an oblivious doofus and more of a...smart doofus? Yes. The same glimmer of light glinted in his eyes, momentarily fogging his vision, and so he was genuinely caught off-guard when Clarence faked him out and jumped to the side.

That rumbling chuckling returned as Ivan nodded enthusiastically in approval, and then followed the fawn's steps, countering his sneaky moves and bouncing on pointed hooves. He must have looked quite ridiculous to any spectator, the normally stoic antelope springing about like a yearling. Ah, but this was what the fawn brought out in him: playfulness and utter adoration. Almost at once he felt a familiar stirring in his soul, and a flicker of a memory returned to him: prancing about with another creature, one that looked like him but smaller. Was that...

His thoughts were interrupted when he almost plowed head-first into a tree, but quickly hit the brakes and leaped around the trunk in one graceful movement, hoping that Clarence did not see that moment of clumsiness. Oh, but what did it matter? The fawn was having a blast, and that was more than enough for the antelope. Huffing playfully, Ivan paused to lower his horns in Clarence's direction, pawing the ground gently and nodding his head as his neck dipped up and down. It seemed as if he was inviting the fawn to spar. Clarence had no antlers yet, of course, but better to learn sooner than never!

(Gahh, so do I! They are both so precious together. Clarence is pretty much my favorite fawn ever~ ;u; ♥)

idiosyncrasies's picture

The fawn's mouth widened

The fawn's mouth widened again in response to the bull's happy rumblings, eyes crinkling. To see such a large and usually stoic creature bound like one much younger amused him. Many of the Bigs in the forest were reluctant to play with fawns, and this fawn certainly appreciated the quality time.

Muscles quivered and strained when he hopped as high as he could, bucking and pronking to show off his skills to the other. Until he fell on his face, that is. Scrambling quickly upright and sidling to the side, he checked to see if Ivan had noticed. But it seemed like he had his own problems as he swerved out of the way of an unfortunately placed Elm. The smaller creature watched in delight as the antelope lowered his horns and pawed playfully. An invitation to spar? Puffing out his chest and grunting as aggressively as he could, the fawn lowered his head and charged at the other, skidding to a stop suddenly when realizing colliding with those big horns would probably hurt.

Ivan seemed to be patiently tolerating the huffing and grunting, so he lowered his face to the ground once again and pawed back, headbutting Ivan's forehead.

The sable had to admit to

The sable had to admit to himself: he was quite impressed! Clarence was full of boundless energy, especially so for one who was so typically well-behaved and quiet. But he was a fawn after all; if he wasn't energetic, Ivan would have been concerned! However, the antelope did not notice the fawn fall on his face as he himself was preoccupied with narrowly avoiding his own disaster. Still, he quickly picked up on the fact that Clarence now had a suspicious amount of dirt on his face, and Ivan was stuck between chuckling and sighing. They would have to work on the fawn's spazzy footwork, for sure. But first, sparring lesson!

That familiar ghost of a smile returned to Ivan's muzzle as Clarence puffed out his chest and grumbled, seemingly mimicking the antelope, and he chuckled once more with admiration. The fawn had so much potential, and so much to show for. He certainly stood out from all of the other fawns Ivan had met. The bull grunted encouragingly as Clarence headbutted him, taking care in making sure that the fawn did not get too excited and collide too hard. It was less about impact, and more about force. To demonstrate, Ivan gently pushed back against the fawn and then withdrew, inviting the little one to do the same. Push, shove, push, shove: that was what Ivan considered to be combat with his kin. It was all about strength of body and mind; a power struggle, a great battle between matched opponents. Well...in this case, not so matched, but practice makes perfect!

(You are very welcome, and I feel the same of Clarence! ♥ Aahhh, that picture is so very cute and sweet!! I absolutely love it; both Ivan and C look wonderful, and I adore the colors! ;u; ♥ Please continue to draw, you certainly have talent! n_n)

Energy and happiness fizzled

Energy and happiness fizzled through the young one's body as he play sparred with the antelope. Such close and friendly displays of trust were rare to him and, once the opportunity appeared, he felt much more willing to let some inhibitions go and just be a fawn. Sneezing crumbs of dirt off, he wrinkled his nose and narrowed his eyes menacingly. He could see a slight lift to the corners of Ivan's mouth and he was huffing- was he being laughed at? Snorting, he grinned up at him and went back to work.

Tail twitching furiously, his tiny body strained forward to push with all its might against the antelope's; bugling softly all the while. Every molecule of the brown furry body was focused on pushing back on his friend. The fawn desperately wanted to make a good impression. This was his Big Blue, after all.

(shhhhh you're making me blush <3 I don't believe you but I appreciate it all the same! ;U;

Her stride was slow and

Her stride was slow and steady, but her long legs did carry for far. Each stride covered much ground but keeping up with her would be no problem. When Ntombi was a little girl, she use to watch the herds of beasts travel across the savannah. From the rhinos to the zebra. Each huddled in ether pairs to huge families. Those were the days she thought the only fear that the creatures had were other creatures. She was wrong of corse, but she was only a child then. The world was a very dark place and yet this forest had a very different vibe going on for it.

She looked around as they moved forward, catching the sight of birds fluttering by or the silhouette of someone ahead of them but they didn't stop to introduce themselves. Maybe her size scared others away? After all, maybe here only came up to her knee cap. The silence was strange, still trying to get use to such a place but she tried not to think much on the fact. But when she looked to Ivan again, something looked familiar to him; still she couldn't recall. Some of her memories of the life before this one were very hard to think back to. All of it was a little fuzzy. "Hmmm . . ." Maybe it didn't matter? Not thinking much on it, the giraffe didn't stop walking; unsure of where they were headed now.

Joyously, the sable's tail

Joyously, the sable's tail swished in time to the fawn's own. Ivan's smile broadened as Clarence pushed back with all his might and bugled, echoing it with another encouraging grunt. He leaned back slightly on his ankles, relieving pressure from his front legs so that the fawn may push against him more easily. Clarence didn't cease to amaze Ivan; he was quite good at sparring! Indeed, he could be a formidable opponent later in life. All he needed was some more lessons and practice; Ivan would just need to prepare himself for all the horn-aches (not that he would mind at all, of course!).

With careful timing, the sable took a half-step back as Clarence pressed forward, pretending to lose his footing a little with a 'surprised' grunt. It was a pretty convincing reaction, and Ivan hoped that it would encourage the fawn to continue practicing. Who knows, maybe Clarence will soon be able to knock ol' Ivan off his hooves! Gently huffing praise, the sable 'recovered' his footing and nodded enthusiastically, mussing the fawn's hair with his muzzle. Good work, good work! It was an old and familiar feeling, being so proud of a little one. His little one. The gently smile seemed to grow more and more as the bull doted over his charge, amber eyes bright with life.

[Eep, sorry Carry, I almost didn't see your post! ;u;]

Ntombi's thoughts practically reflected Ivan's own, though his memory seemed shattered into even smaller pieces than hers. Yet that feeling that he somehow knew her from somewhere, from some other time, still nagged at his very core. He did his best to not become frustrated as he did not want to stress out his companion, and so he focused on the trail ahead, subconsciously leading them to the familiar seclusion of the birch woods.

Lightly he padded alongside her, remaining slightly ahead as he led the way, not quite fixated on their surroundings as he was busy sorting through his thoughts. His large ears automatically swiveled to each invasive noise in the surrounding area, but that was more of a subconscious tactic. Externally, he was oblivious. The gentle hum came to him again, and his ears perked to the sound of it. It was a comforting noise, something that he realized he enjoyed. Ntombi had a soothing tone about her, almost motherly. Hm...but her face...where was it in his memories? He was not sure if he would ever be able to find it, but he wouldn't give up that easily. Perhaps if he got to know her more, about her past and her home, it was all start to come back to him.

The grasses beneath them had morphed from lush and green to dry and yellow, quickly reaching the sable's chest in length. Ivan raised his head and took in the scent of the grasses and birch trees deeply, savoring it. This was his home away from home. Testing the air, he followed the scent of the fresh water that poured from the curious fountain in the center of the wood, and from there located his favorite tree. Trotting over to it, he rubbed his shoulder against the trunk a couple of times, rebranding his musk. When finished he looked over to the she-giraffe, nodding and gentle pawing the earth in invitation.

What a tough sparring partner

What a tough sparring partner Ivan was! The fawn found that after a short while of straining, pushing, and posturing he was tiring fast. However, he didn't want to stop and disappoint the bull. Huffing, honeyed rays playing across the two and painting them deeper colors than they really were, he persevered. Secretly the small one hoped that he could continue to practice so that he could grow up strong and graceful like the antelope.

As the small brown head shoved against the blue horned one, he heard a huff and the pressure was suddenly gone. He had won the round this time. Looking up, up, up jubilantly, his ever present grin shone out along with sparkling eyes. Being without a parental figure had starved the fawn of wanted affection, and he practically glowed with it. Stretching his thin neck, he leaned closer and rubbed noses with the bull. "Dis one my Big Blue?" The voice came out small and tremulous; embarrassed, he hid his face in Ivan's chest fur.

(remember what I said about those cavities. >:l <3)
Salka's picture

As far as Ivan was concerned,

As far as Ivan was concerned, perseverance was key. Clarence showed more of it than some of the bull's own past rivals, and that alone spoke volumes. The fawn was certainly going to become an admirable buck, strong in body and mind. Ivan was happy that he was already witnessing such changes, and to be there to encourage it all along. Despite bearing a rough-and-tumble exterior, Ivan truly was a mentor at heart. Seeing Clarence's face light up with happiness and confidence was the greatest reward that the bull could ask for. And indeed, he felt that now as the fawn looked up at him with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.

The bull huffed softly and beamed with pride down at his charge, his features softening as the fawn rubbed noses with him. Gently, he sniffed and nuzzled Clarence's face, blinking with a smile at the question. Big Blue...the nickname was already growing on him. The bull never had a nickname before, and so this was truly a special occasion to him. It was clear that he meant a lot to the fawn in order to be bestowed such a noble and personalized title.

He was curious about the small tone however, as he did not see a reason for the fawn to be embarrassed. Then again, he knew how shy Clarence was. With a soft chuckle the antelope nodded his great head, lightly tussling the young one's hair once more even as his face remained planted in Ivan's fur. Yep, Big Blue: the one and only! Ivan huffed softly, draping his neck over the little one's shoulders with a warm smile. It was moments like these that he feared he would never experience again, yet here they were.

The small fawn thought his heart was going to swell and beat out of his chest. Such affection seemed foreign and welcome at once, a privilege that he felt he would never get used to. There was a nagging feeling deep down that something like this would not have happened before... but what was before? The fawn had no concept of "before".

When the small face was nuzzling the larger's, he was surprised to find it getting a once over by Ivan. Following the adult's lead he whuffed back quietly. Then he quickly buried his face again in the sable's fur and sidled so his body leaned against the other's pillar like ones. What better way to spend the sunlit hours than with his protector? The other's scent and heave neck across his shoulders was comforting and he yawned, nuzzling Ivan's neck.

She continued to walk,

She continued to walk, noticing that the sable bull was moving in a slightly different direction of her and she shifted so that she was now following him. Guessing he was going somewhere and hoped he didn't mind her following him. A few more bird calls caught her attention, pulling her large ears to perk and twist. That prey instinct seemed to be deep inside of this body of hers but her 'human' part kept her from jumping to any conclusions. The low hum continued from her, a comforting habit probably. It was something she just always done, hum. It had gotten on a lot of peoples nerves; so she hoped Ivan didn't mind.

Yet, she never hummed on purpose, she would just do it. Like how some people would bite their nails or a dog starching an itch. As the stone figure was coming into her view, she noticed that water come out like tears. Head titled, she stared at it. It was beautiful, but was also very sad. Something that always seemed to cry. Yet, those tears seem to fill the river that she could only assume led to the pond. Such a strange and beautiful world. "Suffering to help others . . ." The words fell from her lips like the tears fell from the stone statue. She had suffered to help others; but it was worth it, wasn't it?

The she-giraffe thought about that, only stopping her steps if Ivan stopped. If this is where his walk was leading him. "Do ya miss the savannah Ivan . . .? Looking down to him, her neck would lower so her face and voice wouldn't be so distant.

idiosyncrasies
It was uncanny how Clarence's realizations seemed to reflect the bull's own. It was a foreign feeling, yes, but still all too familiar. He would have been devestated to learn that the fawn was simply not used to such affection, however; indeed, he was already getting that vibe as the little one glowed and practically burst with joy from a simple nuzzle.

That same smile broadened ad Clarence huffed against his long face, the corners of his mouth actually crinkling not unlike a human-faced deer's. With his neck against the little one's shoulders, Ivan gently pulled him closer and sighed deeply, feeling quite at peace as his tail and ears flicked lazily. Tenderly, he nibbled at Clarence's hair as his neck was nuzzled, cleaning it of stray dirt, leaves and other debris. Indeed, Clarence was the messiest fawn Ivan had met. Another gentle rumble sounded at the thought of this as the sable chuckled, continuing his work and keeping an eye on their surroundings.

[Awh, no worries at all! It is simple and sweet~ c: And I cannot either, ahhh~! ;u;]

Carry
Large ears perked as Ntombi spoke, and he looked up at her curiously. There was a reflective and introspective tone to her words, and he realized that she was speaking to herself. Suffering to help others... What did she mean by that? With a small pull of dread, be wondered if she had died before coming to this place. He was still trying to figure that out about himself as well. Was it possible that all of these deer, these sentient creatures, had passed on in another life? Were they all merely ghosts, living memories of themselves? The implications were boggling, and as much as he desired to know, Ivan knew that he may never find the answers. But perhaps that was the point of the forest all long: too keep everyone at peace with the ignorance of their own tormented pasts. After all, would one want to dwell in an afterlife where they were haunted by their grievances and pain?

So lost was he in his own thoughts that he started slightly, just slightly, when the she-giraffe spoke up again. He tipped his head up to hear her better, and then paused when she mentioned an unusual word that he did not recognize. Savannah... Was that where she was from, and consequently himself? Such a place must have long dry grasses and sparce trees, much like where they were now. That was what he remembered about his home. Why else would Ntombi have brought it up if the very sight of the birch didn't inspire the thought?

Confident in his theory, the sable nodded slowly with a long huff. But even then, he was only partially sure that he missed this 'savannah' as much as he did when he first entered the forest. Things were different here, maybe even better. He could not say for sure, however; his memories were still foggy, though his senses reassured him that a few things about the forest were very much like home. His knit brow relaxed as he gazed up into her soft brown eyes, raising one brow and tilting his head, silently inquiring the same of the she-giraffe.

Taking notice of the area he had led her to, she saw how similar it was to the place she once called home. An ache in her heart tugged, realizing that they don't even know that she is gone. Her mother and father; not even her friends that she left behind when she left on this mission. They still think she ran away and have no idea the truth; that their daughter, their friend was no longer with them. Those soft round eyes grew wet; seeing the reply that Ivan had gave her. He missed the grassy savannah just as she would of guessed.

Ntombi nodded. "I do too." Her voice cracked a little. She felt stupid now; pulling in a long breath. Keeping any tears at bay that might try to escape and reveal her emotion. Stretching her neck a little, she walked over to the weeping statue and looked at it closer before facing the sable bull. In case he had anything else to 'say' or 'ask' her.

The crack in her voice

The crack in her voice prompted the antelope to tilt his head curiously, wondering what the cause of it was. Looking up at her, he saw that her eyes were shiny...they were wet with tears. A strange realization occurred to him then, one that he could not explain, but it was there nevertheless: he realized that she was sad. How he could tell from a human face, he did not know. The forest was influencing him in strange ways, but not in regrettable ways. Every day he understood more and more of emotions and actions, of the way of life in this strange world. And now, he could feel Ntombi's pain, and a weight formed in his chest. His posture slumped, his ears back and his eyes lowered. He felt as if he was sharing Ntombi's sorrow and longing, and indeed, he truly was. That invisible, golden thread between them, tying them together, strengthened and grew a little brighter.

When his amber eyes lifted once more, his gaze met her own questioning one. She wanted him to ask questions...but how? And not only that, but he simply didn't know where to start. Those thoughts continue to race as he padded after her, coming up to her side and gazing at the statue for a long moment. Eventually he noticed a couple of fawns prancing around a doe out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head in their direction, and then back up at the she-giraffe. When he got her attention, he pointedly glanced back at the three and then to her again, arching a brow. Family? Hopefully that wasn't too personal of a silent inquiry.

A slow sigh left her as she

A slow sigh left her as she watched the sable bull begin to graze by the statue; looking over to the direction that he was motioning to with his head. A doe and a few fawns? The giraffe watched them for a while as they played, trying to figure out his question that Ivan was asking her. Family? Family. Sniffing softly, she nodded as she watched them. One of the fawns noticed the two of them and seemed confused at their appearance but went back to the doe. "Yes, I was thinking about family." Head swayed a little from side to side as her eyes began to dry; pulling herself together.

It seemed to be getting easier for Ntombi to understand Ivan with each moment that they spent together. Interesting. She didn't think much on the matter, not sure what to gain from it; but was it important? An itch formed behind her ear, twisting her neck to rub the spot with her side. Ahh, relief. "Did . . . do you have a family?" Watching him again as the fawns and doe began to move away.

While the larger being was reflecting on his thoughts and feelings, the fawn was simply wrapping himself in the warm cottony feeling of belonging somewhere and being wanted. It was good to have the antelope beside him; he was the protector and best cuddle buddy.

Large ears flattened and his muscles quivered and tensed briefly when Ivan began to groom him. Some latent memory surfacing and submerging almost as fast as it came. Sighing deeply, chest heaving, he leaned harder on the sable's strong legs, rubbing at a smudge of dirt there. Bright green eyes closed softly as a gentle humming sounded in the back of the fawn's throat. If he was a cat he would purr.

Carry The bull immediately

Carry
The bull immediately regretted 'asking' her. He should have known that the thought of family would have triggered such a reaction from her; after all, he was sure that he was torn from a family of his own as well. A slight pang formed in his chest at the very thought of it, but was it worth mourning over when he could not remember anyone from his world? Perhaps that was too cold of a thing to think...but it would help him sleep, at least.

Subconciously, the antelope wondered the very same as the giraffe: it was curious how easily she was able to understand him. The forest was gracious enough to grant him facial expressions, and as subtle as they were, it was beginning to come more naturally to him. Blinking out of his reverie, he watched with fascination as Ntombi bent her long neck to get at an itch. The returned question should not have caught him by surprise, as he had just asked the same of her, but it did so nevertheless.

The realization returned to him that he could not fully remember...there was something there, but he could not reach it. Maybe it was for the best. If he were to remember, he would be haunted by memories that were better off kept away. After all, he had a feeling that he was trapped in this world. Possibly forever. Still, he could swear that he could almost smell them...feel them.

Slowly his eyes drifted back up to hers, his posture slumping as he heaved a long sigh. Tilting his head at an angle, he slowly shook his horns and then raised his shoulders. It was a look of complete uncertainty, in only a way that Ivan could manage. The bull sighed again, lowering his eyes to fixate on the Idol's own weeping ones.

(Oh you're right! I always thought that Ivan's looks like an antelope's head, but I can definitely see the tree as well. Awesome!)

idiosyncrasis
Not much escaped the bull's notice, and so when the fawn began to quiver he paused briefly, mentally assessing whether or not this was a bad thing. However, the fawn did not protest. Maybe he just wasn't used to being doted on, which Ivan found very difficult to believe. Tucking away the puzzlement aside for the time being, Ivan concentrated on making Clarence feel safe and wanted, which came quite naturally to him: that paternal instinct was truly coming back full-force.

As the fawn rubbed at a smudge in his fur, the bull smiled and chuckled softly. That was quite considerate of the little one. Nevertheless, Ivan made a mental note to take a bath soon; he desperately needed one anyway. An ear tipped to the sound of the fawn humming, which was very much endearing and comforting in its own way. A faint rumble in the bull's own throat joined it as he too hummed along, and soon he gently drew the fawn closer to him as he settled in the grass, his side resting firmly against the trunk of an oak. With a content sigh, he tucked his back legs around Clarence's small frame, amber eyes shining bright as he gave the little one's hair another tussle.

[Awh, no worries at all hon! I was back and forth as well, and finally got around to replying. No rush at all! Ivan's perfectly fine just sitting with Clarence. c:]

Inwardly, he cringed when he felt hesitation and concern emanate from Ivan. It seemed like he had done something to make the bull worry. Pushing away the nagging tickles in the back of his mind and associative guilt for upsetting the bull, he looked up and grinned reassuringly. Green eyes blinked, catching the sun like rays of sea glass and shining fondly.

The fawn didn't realize it, but the bull's constant romps and his aversion to water equaled two piles of dirty furballs in need of washing. He continued doggedly at the dirty spot on his the sable's leg before being pulled down in the grass gently. Squeaking in surprise, ears flew back and then forward. Grinning widely, legs sprawled sideways and the brown body buried itself against the other's side, securely wedged against the dark legs of his Blue.

Yawning, a thought struck. "Big Blue... You have fam'ly?"

Salka's picture

Although the bull's

Although the bull's protective instincts were strong, he was too immersed in wondering about the fawn's subtle behavior to notice him cringe. Even if he had, however, all of that worry would have washed away upon seeing that joyous smile and shining green eyes full of life. Clarence's human-like face was full of expressions that Ivan could now immediately recognize, which was amazing to think of considering that he had not been in the forest for very long. Perhaps it was his strong attachment to the little one that helped him to understand.

Another rumbling chuckle reverberated through the sable's deep chest at the squeak, a strange but funny sound. The bull tucked himself around the little one as Clarence flopped against him without a care, smiling down at him endearingly. Why did he feel as if this had happened in his life before? Not this life, but...

As if reading his thoughts, the fawn's inquiry reached his ears. Blinking, his eyes found Clarence's, and his muzzle formed a sad sort of smile. Tilting his great head slightly, he gave a gentle shrug of his shoulders, posture slumping slightly as he followed it with a small sigh. It was the best he could manage at appearing uncertain. Day by day he was beginning to remember things, small details that were slowly building up into something grander. At first he was happy to realize this but now he realized that he was afraid of learning the truth, of remembering the ghosts of a world he could no longer return to. His brow knit slightly at the thought, and after a moment he turned to Clarence again and managed a more reassuring smile, leaning over to lightly nibble at a small dirty patch on the fawn's shoulder. Ivan was much more concerned about whether Clarence had family, and if so, why was he alone?

Drawing back slightly, Ivan looked down at him with some concern, silently inquiring this very thought...but he was not sure if Clarence would understand.

Those expressive mossy eyes watched the larger one carefully. He often seemed lost in thought, glowing tree-amber eyes misty with the image of something unseen to the fawn. What was it that troubled him so? His fur ruffled in the forest's sweet breeze as he thought, the rustle of leaves like soft laughter.

The fawn's attention was caught by a sigh as the great body close to him heaved and shoulders slumped. The corners of the great sleek muzzle seemed turned down, similar to the expressions his face could make when he stared at it in the pond. What was giving his sable the sads? Concern filled his eyes, but he tried to cover it up by huffing and rubbing his face against the antelope's pelt. Any threat or disturbance to Ivan was a disturbance to him. The concern rising from the two was palpable. Feeling uncomfortable with something he didn't know how to express, the fawn reached as high as he could, pressing his face against the larger male's neck under his jaw. Dark fur pressed like a stain against the bull's blue and white as he mumbled, "My Blue."

Ears flattened against delicate skull, eyes scrunched and nose wrinkled, the fawn attempted to cuddle the sads right out of Ivan.

It was around this time that Ivan was finally beginning to feel the worry emanating from the fawn, as well as something stronger and more underlying. The bull could not pinpoint it, but he knew that it was not good. Perhaps it had something to do with Clarence's past... Immediately he felt a foreign emotion stir within him: guilt. He could not identify this feeling, but it came to him naturally. And he felt awful about it.

Though he did not speak with words, Ivan decided to drop the subject right there, now focusing on the comfort that the little one brought him and how he in turn could return the favor. Snapping out of his troubled reverie, the bull smiled softly down at the fawn, lightly tussling Clarence's hair before the little one hid his small face beneath the sable's chin. Humming endearingly, Ivan closed his eyes for a moment with a content sigh, again feeling that sense of familiarity. It was no longer unpleasant, just warm and inviting. Maybe he didn't need to be afraid of remembering after all.

Large ears perked as Clarence spoke into his neck, and as the words registered something powerful stirred within the bull's very soul. It simply could not be put into words, but it transcended adoration. It was a force as warm as it was comforting, and the sable's smile grew along the brightness of his amber eyes. With a long, gentle huff the bull shifted his snout down and nuzzled between Clarence's shoulder-blades and along his neck, lightly nibbling at the fur there, preening the fawn that his own soul glowed for. His fawn...his Clarence.

Again, a sigh gusted from the male, rustling golden stalks and fur alike. At first, he thought it was another of those deep sighs that echoed the sometimes-melancholy of the other's eyes, the feeling that emanated from his soul when he thought, gazing out and beyond to a foreign land. Soon though, the rumbling hum that seemed to be the sable's contented "purr' sounded and the fawn felt a large, soft nose in his hair. Warmth spider webbed and bloomed across his chest. He hated his hair being touched. But from Ivan, that gentle caress put fears to ease and comforted him.

The other seemed to have reached some peace, for he settled down father, huffing and humming gently while grooming the dirty fawn. Tenderness washed from Ivan to him in waves as the other preened quietly. When he had first come to awareness in the Forest, alone and lonely, there had been a feeling of gaping openness. He had felt exposed and slightly raw. Just as the other gently groomed, that gaping ache was diminished and replaced by overflowing affection. Curving close to the bull, he listened to the steady beat of his heart as his own settled to match its rhythm. The bull was his.... the feeling there brought to surface a word that had not been uttered or thought for a very long time.
His..."Papa." A tiny whisper, muttered half asleep into deep blue fur.

Papa.

In his world, Ivan never would have known what such a word meant. In fact, he had never heard that word in all his life. And yet somehow, by some miracle that only this strange forest could provide, he knew. He understood. And just like that, he knew what his purpose was here. Clarence... A breath hitched in the bull's throat, his heart thrumming in his chest, and- His eyes...they stung, and his vision blurred. It did not hurt; it felt absolutely wonderful. What he was feeling was indescribable, yet it meant everything.

Beneath his own strong heartbeat, he felt the fawn's own beating in time, together and as one. Papa... He understood, and he could not be happier. He could have leaped about with joy had he not had been curled around his little one. The bull closed his eyes as he leaned over and gently drew the fawn closer against him with his neck and muzzle, feeling a bit of moisture prick at the corners of his eyelids. He exhaled slowly, tucked securely around Clarence and feeling the most at peace than he did in a long, long time.

As he too began to drift off, beautiful dreams awaiting him, one word echoed softly within his mind and heart. Son.

(By the way, I absolutely love how Clarence is developing as a character. He is so wonderful, and I am eager to learn more about his past even though it doesn't sound like it's the warmest, fuzziest one ;-; Heading off to bed now, have a good night dear! n_n)

The question didn't bother

The question didn't bother her much really; after all it's not like he meant any harm by asking such a thing. Her heart did ache and did pull; wanting nothing more then to tell them that she was fine and didn't mean to leave without much of an explanation. Dropping her gaze, she watched the sable bull think of a way to answer her. Despite not having words to speak with, the way they communicate together wasn't problematic. Practically the opposite. Such an interested thing, and she was grateful for the fact. After all, Ivan has been the first so far that she stopped to 'speak' to and communicate with beyond an exchange of glances.

Upon his shrug, Ntombi nodded softly. "I see . . " Hoping that her asking the question back wasn't bad for him. Long legs held her high watching as the doe and fawn left; she moved over to a tree near the statue and leaned up ageist it. "Best not to think much on the past for the time being?" After all, it seemed they were going to be here for a very long time. Human face drifted around to take in where they were, sure to remember this location for now on before turning her eyes back down to him; not sure if he wished to stay or continue on moving. Ether way, she would probably follow. Strange, she wasn't much of a follower; maybe it was herd mentality? Or just his company was something she has quickly gained comfort in? Probably the last one.
