Previously:

Recently witnessed her little brother's birth. Elated at having another sibling, but somewhat too sick to rejoice in it. Unfortunately through it all her mother had noticed and had come to her to comfort her, despite in what should have been a more joyful day. Confided in her and told her secret, which her mother was happy about, but understandably worried. Enjoyed mother/daughter time and was content to watch her small brother romp around, enjoying his new life and legs.

As things became more bleak and she was losing strength as well as most of her weight, Loki became extremely concerned. Both were at a loss until something that Skylar said sparked curiosity and an idea in the hellhound. Decided to try a last-ditch resort; caught a rabbit and brought it to her, asking her to try a piece of it. Skylar looked at him with an 'are you kidding me' face, but after insisting he take off the skin and all the fur, and cut it into a piece she could swallow because ew gross what the hell, she made herself swallow it quickly.

.. not only did it stay down, she craved more. It seemed like the fawn craved this whole time what its father did: meat.

Skylar quickly devoured the rabbit as fast as Loki dropped it at her feet, and she was a messy eater. After he caught her a squirrel, she seemed sated enough and didn't want to overdo it as her body needed to recover and they both rested for the night in a warm spot, relieved that there quite possibly was a solution to the problem.

Personality:
Skylar has grown into a feisty, tomboyish doe. At times very sassy, she's not afraid to speak her mind. This often gets her into trouble. She's not above bullying back whoever bullies her, although she knows to run if she's in trouble. She seems to have an affinity for things she should stay away from. Although often times she frazzles her family with her attitude, she means well deep down and truly cares about those close to her. She has a soft side, but gradually reveals it to those who become closest to her. She and her identical twin share a bond; they can easily feel each other's emotions.
One of Skylar's biggest problems is she doesn't think her actions through and oftentimes gets herself into trouble, especially with her mouth. The ones she tries to stand up to don't always care about that fact and it often makes the ones who care about her's heads explode and their hair fall out from frustration.

Appearance:
Skylar looks very horse and deer like; owing to her kirin blood. She is extremely slender, even for a doe, with a long tail and mane. Her eyes are grey, and her pelt is a mix of soft, shimmery scales and fine fur. In the winter, she gets very cold because of this fine fur. Her kirin horns are growing in, which often gives her slight headaches. On her left horn is an off- white bone ring. It was given to her by Loki; made from a tooth of the crocodile mask he wears. It is cherished and protected by her at all costs.

Riza thought in silence for a

Riza thought in silence for a long time, her brows furrowed and her mouth twisted into a frown in various degrees of frustration in grappling her feelings. It seemed like such a long time before Riza finally found what to say.

"Skylar, I never told you, Rowena, or Ryuu this, but I also have a mask. I'm wearing it right now, even though you can't tell. Behind it is a human face. When I take it off, it doesn't look very special. Just a piece of wood carved into the general shape of a deer's face.

It was a gift from my father, though I didn't know it at the time. It's precious to me, and it's the only thing I can ever claim to possess. Before you and your sister were born, my father died. Now, it's the only thing left of him. I would protect this mask with my life, I think."

While she was speaking, she had been looking off into the distance, a far away look in her eyes as she remembered her youth. She turned to Skylar when she had finished her tale, though the look in her eyes had not faded quite yet.

"I'm telling you this because maybe that mask is very special to that doe, too. I wish she hadn't reacted the way she did to you. It makes me angry and breaks my heart. But I don't know what I would do if someone came and ripped my mask away from me."

Skylar listened to her mother, eyes widening when she heard of her mother's own mask. She would have never known. It was true, and honestly true, that if anyone had hurt her mother or had tried to steal something of her mother's, or hers, she would be upset too. She knew it had been wrong, who would willingly give up their precious .. parts for somtehing like that? She was torn. She knew the reasoning behind what he did. He didn't just steal for fun. And he'd stopped. He'd gotten what he'd needed.

This was hard..

"Mama.. i know what Loki did was wrong. But he's not doing it anymore, and he had a reason behind it. He had to do it for his family... to help them. They needed it.. and if I had to do that to help my family, I would too.. he was only doing what he felt in his heart was right."

Riza sighed. She had made her point, and she was confident Skylar could see it.

"I won't argue with you about this. I will trust you when you say this. But this is about you and your safety. Unless Loki finds a way to make up or come to some kind of truce with those he's wronged, I'll grow old with worry in an entirely too short amount of time knowing that you're with him."

Riza swallowed hard then, blinking a few times to fight the swollen feeling in her eyes.

"I-I'm so sorry I wasn't there to help you... I wish you could have run to me, instead."

Of course Skylar could see the hurt in her mother's eyes... this was the last thing she ever wanted. For anyone. Any of them. She swallowed again, her mouth dry and her own eyes watering.
She was so confused, so torn. What was she supposed to do? What did her mother want?

"Mama, it's not your fault... I.. I should have talked to you... I'm sorry... "

She took a moment to blink her eyes repeatedly, hopefully clearing her eyes of the tears.
"Would you like me to bring Loki here, so you can see him, talk to him..? I know he would..."

Riza took a deep breath.

"I just feel as if I haven't been involved enough in your life. I... I wanted to give you freedom, but now I feel more that I simply wasn't there for you."

Her voice broke at the end, and she had to take a couple deliberate breaths before she spoke again.

"M-maybe that would be a good idea."

Riza pressed her nose to Skylar's cheeks in an attempt to mop up the tears, even though her nose was probably moist, too. She pulled away and sighed again.

"If only it were that simple. If only I could just wish it so. But I don't think you would, even if I did. In trying to protect you, I'm afraid I would lose your love."

She had to turn away for a moment to hide her face.

The little kirin crawled closer to her mother, now wanting nothing more than her comfort and love. She didn't care if she cried now. She felt like she'd ruined so much.

"I'm sorry, Mama.. I never meant to hurt you.. he's really not a bad stag.. he'd never, ever hurt me.. and the other day was my fault, I stuck my nose where it wasn't wanted. He told me to stay behind that day when he got that mask, but I followed him, I was bad..
.. I don't want to never see him again, but Mama.. what do you want me to do? I.. I don't think I could live without my best friend. I think it would hurt too much... "

When Riza felt Skylar come closer, she curled around her daughter.

"I don't want you getting involved in his conflicts anymore. He's an adult who shouldn't let an innocent child become involved in his problems, and he needs to take care of himself, or get help from other adults. Skylar, if I made an enemy out of everyone my friends didn't like, I would end up hating the entire forest, and I wouldn't really know why. We shouldn't bear the consequences of others' decisions, no matter how much we love them. That won't help them make the right decisions."

She looked down at Skylar.

"So, until Loki doesn't have people out to get him, can we make some kind of compromise? Let him pick fights on his own, and let him deal with the consequences of his actions on his own. If he's a good stag, he should know that's what's best for you and would want that."

Relieved that Riza seemed to

Relieved that Riza seemed to understand, she shook her head vigorously. This.. even seemed to fix things. She hoped. She'd never get under Loki's feet again, she'd never talk to those does again-- even if they came near, she'd do her best to ignore them. Unless they pulled her tail or something. Then she'd throw rocks.

"I promise, Mama. I can do that. I... I'm not a little fawn anymore, I promise I can act like an adult and show you how good I can be. I'll show everyone. Even if those does come poking around, I'll ignore them. And if Loki gets into a fight, I'll run away and hide. Until he says it's okay.. or something. Or come find you."

She hoped that would make her mother feel better.

Skylar returned the nuzzle, curling up next to her mother. Feeling much better by talking about the past few days' events, she closed her eyes, and soon fell asleep, comforted by her mother's presence.

Riza lay her head down gently when she was sure Skylar was asleep. Her own eyes did not close for a long while. She wept silently, hounding herself for letting all of this happen and the distance now apparent between her and her daughter. Maybe now things were being repaired, but it changed nothing that had happened before. She also thought about Ryuu. She knew there was something going on with him. When was the last time she had seen him genuinely happy?

When she had let out her emotions, Riza eventually slept, as well.

Riza wondered the forest,

Riza wondered the forest, worry growing in her heart after Skylar's extended absence. Her maternal paranoia made her wonder if her daughter was angry, or if she even cared about her anymore. Am I doing something wrong?
Riza's heart froze as she came across the bitter smell of blood. Her vision became dark and tunneled, only focused on finding what was bleeding and making sure it wasn't Skylar. Riza wasn't even sure if she had ran, as she felt more like she had been sucked through the air by some force.
As if the nightmarish vision in her mind's eye had leaped forth from behind her skull, there Skylar was, blood all around her. Loki was nearly a mere blur in Riza's sight and hardly registered in her brain, and her ears rung painfully. Before she could even think about anything, she was screaming in hysterics.
"Who did this to you?! WHO DID THIS TO YOU?!"

Skylar noted her mother's approach, and she quickly stood, flinching and ears pinning at the sound of her mother's screaming. Setting her mask beside Loki, she ran to her, giving her a fierce nuzzle.
"Mama, Mama.. I'm okay, I'm okay! Half of this blood isn't even mine, please.."

At the sounds of Skylar's

At the sounds of Skylar's voice and the feel of her nuzzle, the nightmare slowly began to roll back behind reality. Her vision began to clear, and the ringing gradually faded out, though it was replaced by the sound of her own harsh breathing.
But it was true. She fully recognized Loki now and saw that his wounds were grievous. It took every ounce of her will to not hold Skylar tightly, but it would have probably been painful for the smaller doe. She instead gave a delicate nuzzle in return, trying not to let her shaking cause her to bump Skylar by accident, but she held her daughter gently in an embrace.
A new wave of emotions and thoughts slammed into Riza, and tears began flowing with a single big sob. At least it looked like the two had their wounds more or less tended to, but there was just so much blood...
"Please..." her voice cracked, "Tell me what happened. I need to know who did this to you."

Skylar nudged her mother a bit more fiercely; she was strong, she wanted her mother to know that. Although she was hurt, she wasn't deathly injured, and she would survive. Her brother would see to her injuries, it was inevitable if he saw her.
Seeing her mother cry broke her heart, and she knew how much she'd hurt her, although she hadn't ever intended to. She stood close beside her mother, ears drooping and eyes closed, resting her head across her mother's neck.

"It was all a blur, Mama. So many in the forest.. but the one who .. attacked you and I that day. He started it all. Then others joined in and we were surrounded and everything just got crazy. I don't even know who was fighting who for what at that point anymore. It's almost like we just got swept into it."

Riza listened to Skylar, holding her a little closer, her shaking fading into a small trembling. Her eyes wondered to Loki, and she thought about what may have happened had he not been there, and it chilled her to the bone. Her gaze fell to the earth as she thought for a moment long enough to steady her breathing.
"If you can tell me anything about those others..." she started, "I need to know who else is dangerous. There's a chance I know who they are, or at least can recognize them. I know you might just be trying to protect me by keeping me in the dark about some of this, but I think that knowing exactly who's a threat, and why, is much safer. Do you think you can tell me?"

Skylar's ears drooped, and she tried to think. So much of that was a blur that night, she had only concentrated on staying alive.

"Mom, I.. I don't know. There was another with quills on his back, was older than the stag that attacked us.. there was a black stag there.. another doe.. I.. I just can't remember it all. Others joined in and I don't even think they were concerned about Loki and I. So I don't want to give the wrong descriptions."

Riza kissed Skylar on the forehead. She knew her daughter was still exhausted, and she felt terrible for asking her to recall anything about it, but she felt this was important. If she could just potentially recognize the ones directly involved in the future, she would be able to be someone on Skylar's and Loki's side. But another with quills? If he looked anything like that stag that had attacked her and Skylar, surely she would at least know him.

"It's all right. You certainly don't have to remember everything or everyone. It can wait until later." She gave a firm nuzzle. "You need rest."

A calm had settled on the

A calm had settled on the scene after Riza had given birth. Her newly born son was sleeping peacefully at her side, almost blending in perfectly if not for the winding stripe on his side. She was exhausted, but still had more energy than she expected.

Everyone had settled in pairs, but her daughters were closest. Perhaps now was a good time to bring up certain things. Things concerning Skylar in particular. But there was something else to be said first. Riza looked to them, then down again at Oromë. "I'm sorry... For not having seen any of you in so long... For not telling you." She had to stop herself from saying anymore for fear of rambling pointlessly. There were so many thoughts in her mind filling her with guilt. What was she thinking, having another child when the father is practically entirely absent? It was pointless to dwell on, she knew. Oromë was here now, and she would take care of him, and at the very least Ryuu was willing to help take care of him as well.

Skylar had been staring at

Skylar had been staring at her baby brother for some time. He was so small, so perfect. She hoped he'd help seal up the hole in her Mom's heart where it ached for her father in his absence. She may not speak about it openly, but Skylar could tell now and then when she'd see her mother. She'd be here for Orome as much as she could, too. Of course, now she had a family on the way herself.. a whole lot of responsibility. She was so tired all the time. So, so tired.

"Don't be sorry, Mama. Things happen,and I know you did your best. Ryuu's always helped when he could too, and now we all have to band together to help this little guy, here."
She nodded her head in the little fawn's direction. "Besides, I think me, Row, and Ryuu came out alright." Sky couldn't help but grin at that.

Riza exhaled, letting the relief seep out. She really needed to hear that from her daughter. A tired smile broke out on the older doe's face.

"Yes, I think you're right. With the four of us, I think we'll be just fine. I believe we'll all be chipping in to help yours, as well."

She pulled back a bit, not really sure if she had been ready to bring up the topic. Oh, well. Might as well get it done. "Ah... How is Loki?" She tried her best to balance her nerves with her sincere desire to support her daughter. Skylar still seemed so young to her, she worried how Sky was handling this. But, one question at a time.

It meant a lot to hear her

It meant a lot to hear her mother's acceptance of her fawns. Her heart felt eased, and she was happy they'd have another grandmother to romp around with, too. Things were looking up.

"He's okay, Mom. He's doing his best to take care of me and make sure I take care of myself. He gets really upset when I don't eat enough.. but some days I just really don't feel like eating. It makes me really sick.
I think.. I think we're both really scared and nervous.. but I know that we won't let anything happen to this fawn."

Riza nodded in understanding. "I was often very sick with Ryuu. It didn't help that he was probably the size of three or four of Oromë." She shook her head, glad that the pregnancy with him was indeed the worst of them. And of course, glad that Ferin had been there to use his powers to keep her alive at Ryuu's birth. "So I understand how hard it is to eat, but it is important to at least try. And if Loki is stressing you out too much, you are certainly right to tell him to take a step back. Your mental health is really important, too." She frowned upon hearing about Skylar's and Loki's fears. Riza had certainly been nervous about the responsibility of having a child, but she was always kept reassured by Ferin. He had practically raised three other children on his own, and he was centuries old. She supposed it was hard to not find the voice of such experience reassuring. Skylar sounded so much more unsure, and probably rightly so. She and Loki were so young. "The two of you don't need to be afraid all on your own. Your family will help. And Loki's, I'm sure."

She shook her head. "I just.. everything I eat just doesn't want to stay down. And sometimes if I want to eat it's not enough. It's like.. nothing's ever enough to keep the fawn satisfied. I'm so tired a lot, too. I think Loki is only being the way he is because he's worried if everything is okay. But.. yes, it is frustrating, because even I don't know what's going on."

In a gesture she'd done as a small child, Skylar leaned into her mother, nestling her head and closing her eyes. To have her here was a comfort- even though they may not have seen each other that often, she still cared for her so much.

Riza frowned. Her pregnancies had left her thin, but never emaciated. It sounded like Skylar was worried emaciation was where she was heading. "If this has been happening for a long time, then I am concerned. I would have a few bad days together, but at least a good day in between bad spells." She paused a moment trying to think. "It's possible Loki's parents would be able to give you a better idea on how to deal with this. Pregnancy patterns do tend to be inherited, I believe."

Riza moved in some, as if to hold Skylar. Her daughters had grown up in a blink of an eye, and, good gods, she was going to be a grandmother (if the would-be-grandchild was actually healthy in the womb despite Skylar's woes), but at least some things hadn't changed. She couldn't help but smile a little, feeling nostalgic.
