Metamorphose (poem)

quadraptor's picture
In my early years I was a caterpillar.
I wanted the world for my own.
I had dreams but never thought they'd come true.
So I gathered and ate all that I could find.
I was greedy and selfish.

One day, I hid myself from the world.
I secluded myself from those around me.
I fell into a state of depression.
The cocoon wrapped and concealed me.
I did not want them to see.

And then I broke free from the sorrow.
I now could fly and fulfill my dreams.
I no longer took but gave instead.
The beauty of my soul was painted on my wings.
I became an inspired butterfly.

Good idea.

I feel like we go through these cycles not just once, but many times in our lives.

I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Mhmm! I love the variety of their wings.

Blue Morpho Butterflies have become one of my favorites. I love the design on the bottom of their wings, and the top is even more beautiful.

This reminds me of a poetry

This reminds me of a poetry anthology we got to read in my Liberal Studies class called 'Metamorphoses' by Ovid. Ovid was an ancient Greek philosopher, and you being rather cerebral yourself you might be interested.

I'd actually really like to

I'd actually really like to read Metamorphoses sometime. I'll make a note to look for it soon, I need something new to read anyway.

I do sometimes read classical works, not often but if there's something that interests me in them then I'll give it a try. I'm a fan of Dante's Divine Comedy, although I have only read Inferno and about half of Purgatorio. And I do like some of Shakespeare's work, Macbeth, Richard III, and Henry IV being a few favorites.

Edit - Ordered a copy of Metamorphoses online. Smiling
