Name: Kurios - (Pronounced "curious"--and yes, he is.) Pictogram:A zipdisk...thingy? Gender: Buck Born: March 1, 2009 Current Set: brown & tan pelt, plain/flower antlers; often the wooden mask Theme:Upside Down, Jack Johnson
Photo Diary:(Have a look to see what Kurios is up to!)
Down for repairs.
Note: You can usually use his mask and the flowers on his antlers to judge his mood. Kurios likes the wooden face mask because it is comically stern-looking without being frightening or sinister; it helps him feel a little more imposing. And flowers are just happy--and camouflage when needed! See below for mask-moods!

Personality:
Kurios is, first and foremost, curious. If something's going on, he wants to see what it is. If there's something interesting to look at, he wants to watch it. If there are new and unusual creatures around, he wants to follow them. If there's a hollow log or a pile of rocks, he wants to find out what's inside or on top of it. However, standing in opposition to his powerful curiosity is his wary shyness. Kurios is naturally a very cautious fellow, approaching new things carefully and always taking the time to observe his surroundings for danger. This tempers his curiosity to keep it from getting him killed (like many cats), but the curiosity also keeps him from fleeing from everything that is new and strange to him.
Kurios is naturally a gentle stag, and would be considered quite friendly if not for being so shy. He prefers to wait and observe new deer from the safety of trees or bushes before venturing out in the open. Though slow to come out of hiding, once he finds them to be safely approachable, he can be coaxed to make friends and play. Being frightened can send him leaping away into the woods, but he's much less wary in the presence of those he trusts. Kurios is not typically hyperactive or noisy, but can sometimes get excited while playing dance and tag with friends. Spells are fun and sparkly, but he won't throw them around randomly unless invited to a Forest Magic party.
Now that he's grown, Kurios is a little braver than he was as a fawn. He certainly isn't the biggest or strongest stag in the woods, but he's definitely on the upper end of the scale. Though he doesn't have enough confidence in his size or strength, he's begun to take seriously the idea of the responsibilities of a herd stag. Sometimes, his distance from a group is not shyness, but due to the fact that he is keeping watch for danger. His mask and antlers can often give some indication of his mood and intentions. He's still not quick to challenge other stags, but Kurios can be counted upon to answer cries for help from friends, herdmates, or even just a beleaguered stranger. Being bashful is a separate matter from having true courage--even if he might hide behind a tree after the trouble's over.
Mask Moods Flowers + mask - Kurios is being fairly outgoing and friendly, as much as he can be. The mask helps him feel brave, and the flowers are cheerful and happy. In this set, Kurios is usually at his most approachable, least likely to run away or be "busy." (If he is feeling particularly festive, bold, and/or crazy, he will wear the red flowers instead of the usual purple ones!)
Bare antlers + mask - Kurios is in "herdwatcher" mode, and is usually much more serious. He might dance a little and greet, but most of his attention will be on checking up on the various herds and groups, keeping eyes, ears, and nose out for dangers. In this set, he can usually be found in the shadows not far away, or on a hill nearby, watchkeeping. (Friends can convince him to go put on his flowers and play if they try hard enough!)
Flowers + no mask - Kurios is feeling very shy but still cheerful. He will be on the far edges of groups or hiding behind trees and bushes, watching without intervening. Or he will be off by himself in the woods, listening to the birds sing and looking for things to investigate. He's not in being all serious, so he will play with friends he knows well, but will probably scuttle off or hide if there are strangers.
No flowers + no mask - Kurios is a shadow in the mist, perhaps a little melancholy or feeling extra withdrawn. He will not seek out groups, or even most of his friends, and will--like a wild deer--quietly avoid other creatures, moving with silent steps. With no happy flowers and no safe mask, Kurios is at his most insecure and flighty. (If you're lucky enough to spot this Kurios mode, he will probably run from you unless you are a close friend.)
Background:
(In development. Kurios's life history specifics are currently not set in stone, for if/when/maybe he picks up some RP friends/family and fills out his character a bit more.)
Kurios was born in a thicket in the wilds, and stayed close to his mother. Life could be very hazardous in the wilds for a newborn fawn, as well as for deer in general. He learned his caution from his mother, who was careful to keep her eyes and ears open for danger. In the harsh, competitive wild woods, the older bucks have little patience for fawns (in fact, most find fawns a nuisance, since they take the does' attentions away from their glorious stagness), so Kurios learned to be wary of them and their capricious tempers. As Kurios was still quite a young fawn when he arrived in the Forest, his mother had not yet led him far from his birthplace-thicket to rejoin their hungry, wolf-scattered herd. He hadn't yet had the chance to be introduced to his sire, but still wants to be a good stag. Since Kurios's little family has stumbled into the realm of the Endless Forest, life is much safer, the herds plentiful, and the deer much kinder, but some lessons learned in the wilds will always be with him.
