Journeyman (For Bluedeerlegend18)

Here's a story for Bluedeerlegend18 for drawing Quad as a wolf. I hope you don't mind having a non-TEF story, but I wanted to write this one for you since you said you love wolves. Also these songs inspired the story: Journey Man and Pine Woods, both by Korpiklaani. (I hope the links are okay, if not I'll fix them when I get home tonight. No sound on the computer I'm at)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been hiking for three days now. It has been quite the adventure, but I have to admit, things have gone downhill since yesterday, so-to-speak. The first two nights camping were fine. I had no problems finding a place to camp, having plenty of food and supplies for this adventure, pitching my tent at the right time so I didn't lose any daylight...

Well, the circumstances have changed. Last night I was awoken by the sounds of a bear. It had sniffed out the food I had brought with me, and when it started to rip my tent apart to get to my supplies, I had to cut through the other side of my tent to escape. I took my backpack with me so I'd be able to find my way back.

Since first daylight, I've gotten lost. I can't even find my campsite, I left many of my supplies there, I'm sure all of my food has been eaten by the bear and raccoons. I'm ready to go home. Looking through my backpack, I have a few supplies on-hand. I'm lucky to have my first-aid kit packed, and I still have my car keys. There's a little bit of beef jerky left, at least I have a little food. My water bladder is halfway full, so I've got some water available. Now where is...

Oh great. Just great. I left the map and compass at the campsite. Wonderful.

Let's see. There's some moss on this tree, so now I know which direction north is. That's good, at least I've got some sense of direction now. I was heading east, and I know I should be getting close to the county road system, so if I just keep going east, I should hit it and then I should know where I'm at. I'll be able to get back to my car on the road then.

I hope.

------------------

I've been walking though these woods for several hours now. It looks about midday, no road yet. I'm starting to lose patience. I've had to drink some of the water I had left, and I stopped and ate a few pieces of the beef jerky.

I thought I heard howling a while ago. I guess I'm not alone in these woods. Guess I'll keep my eyes open. I know I'm getting close to a small stream, too - I can hear the water.

I think I see...oh...oh I see him. There's a wolf over there, he's drinking from the stream. I should keep my distance, but I'll try to get my own water supply for the rest of the hike. I'm lucky I have the chemical drops to sterilize the water, otherwise I'd be getting sick from the bacteria in the stream.

Easy now, just walk over here and mind my own business. He sees me, but he doesn't seem to be bothered. That's good, although that look he is giving me is...well, I should just get the water and keep going.

The water bladder is filled, and I put the drops in. It should be safe to drink now. I'll save it for a little later. I'm continuing east, and...huh...that's odd. I just looked back and the wolf isn't by the stream anymore. I never heard him run off. Best watch my back, then.

------------------

A few more hours have passed. The sun is already starting to set. This isn't good, I really don't want to get caught out here in the dark. No shelter, no supplies, a few pieces of beef jerky left...this is getting hopeless.

I had to stop and rest on a boulder. My legs are sore, I've been hiking nonstop since last night. This has been an awful hiking trip, I would have never gone on this journey if I would have known this was going to happen.

Another howl. Sounds like that wolf has found me again. I see him, he just appeared through the trees over there. I wonder what he wants. I wish he'd just leave me alone.

He's panting, he must know I have something...oh...oh he's smelling the beef jerky. This is the last bit of food I have left, and I really shouldn't waste it...

...But I'll give it to him and see what happens. I'm holding it out for him, watching the him approach me cautiously. He's like a dog, unsure movements, but his eyes are locked onto the jerky. Slowly...slowly...oh he took it right from my hand. What a smart wolf! I guess he's really enjoying it, I bet he's never had teriyaki beef jerky before. He's a beautiful color of grey, I never paid attention to the detail of a wolf's fur until now.

The wolf is looking back at me, I think he wants me to follow him. This is really odd, I've never had an animal motion to me like that before. I'll trust him, since this day has been nothing but trouble for me. He's leading me, stopping and looking back. I'm trying to keep up, just am sore from the hike and the events that got me here.

Oh...oh I hear...cars! I can hear their tires on a road nearby! He found the county roads! Oh and there's my car on the side of the road, I'm really surprised, I thought I'd have to find my way back to it. The wolf actually saved my life!

Where did he go, though? I swear he was just here a moment ago. What a sneaky wolf he is!

Thank you, my friend. I hope I find you again one day. You really saved my life today.

This.. was awesome! I like

This.. was awesome! I like how you described the story, sorta like it was in present tense although it was in the past... I think? I never written that way before... I love wolves, they are awesome! Thanks for writing this.
I have a Master's degree in Wumbology.

Glad you liked it. I tend to

Glad you liked it. I tend to write all of my stories in past-tense, it makes writing it easy for me. I had a lot of fun with this one.
