It's Nearly Fall [SAM Interaction Blog]

cloudandis's picture
Sam has been quite lacking in interactions (though, considering my absence.. both characters have) and needs to get to know a few more folks, or at least talk with some familiar faces. A paranoid militant can only get so far on just their mind. While I paint the scene, feel free to interact as you like.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's early morning with weak rays of sunshine peering through the tree of the forest. Droplets of dew cover the grass, and the ground is slightly muddy from the on pour of rain for the past few days. In the misty, humid atmosphere sits a dark magenta deer, with a bright orange mane. They lay under a beech tree overlooking the pond of the forest, staring into the water and pondering what to do. The past several weeks had been nothing but getting to know this place and finding many unexpected creatures along the way, learning who not to piss off. There hadn't been any fights in a while- or none that Sam could have seen, thus far. Their jet black eyes scrutinized their reflection on the water's surface. Still no way back... and they hadn't found any of their items within the forest.

Sulking her way through the

Sulking her way through the mist, a ghostly calico patterned fawn emerged. Heterochromic eyes glared through a silky bangs, slightly more yellow than some of the blotches found elsewhere on her pelt. She followed the stream until she spotted the warm colored deer staring blankly at the water. Using the powers granted by the twin gods, Takoma slipped into the pond as a frog, halo shrinking down four times smaller, and swam a few feet away from the stranger, wondering if they would notice her presence.

Among the loud and annoying

Among the loud and annoying croaks of the frogs, as well as the honking of the ducks- there was another sound. Softer, lighter, brushing the grass. And suddenly it was gone. Suspicious jet black eyes scanned the surrounding area as their owner's head lifted up, ears twitching back and forth in a paranoid fashion. They didn't see anyone at the moment. But they weren't about to take any chances with how this place worked. Birds could talk, deer could have fangs and human faces.

Standing, they carefully moved around the edge of the pond towards the bank, away from the bridge. The magenta fur that adorned them so thickly bristled noticeably as their eyes attempted to trace any strange movements. 'I heard it coming from the bridge. But... there are just frogs and ducks here.' they thought. They sped up their pace, trotting a little faster towards the bridge and briefly focusing their attention on it.

The magenta cervine seemed to

The magenta cervine seemed to become distracted by something, heading away from the bridge at first, then dashing towards it to try and find her so she guessed. Takoma would have smiled, but frogs didn't have teeth and danger was stalking behind her. A stork's beak missed her due to the cover of a lily pad; feeling the force from the current, the frog shot as swiftly as she could to the moistened land as she could.

As the bird saw the calico form of it's prey angrily charging back, it hollered and flew to find a better place to hunt where food was truly food. Her golden mane flapped from side to side to dry herself, some small, weak willow branches getting caught in her mane, tethering her to the tree, keeping her from hiding and observing any more. "Ohh-- just great."

Sam quickly backed up, seeing

Sam quickly backed up, seeing one of the local birds becoming aggressive towards something in the water. It seemed pretty peeved- at the fogs? All of those little green bastards were jumping around like hell, croaking and splashing loudly. That is- until something rose from the water, completely scaring the other animals to the other side of the pond. It was a small spook, probably pretending to be something else. As the spook charged the bird, Sam wasn't sure if they should be amused or keep their guard up. 'Who knows what else that hing can do?' they thought. The little creature made its way tot he bank after successfully making the bird leave.

Moving just a short distance off of the bridge, Sam could hear the strange muttering something as they tried to dry off- water and reeds that'd caught in their hair flying everywhere.
"Who're you?" the magenta deer asked. Their tone and gaze was suspicious.

As she kept trying to yank

As she kept trying to yank herself free of the branches, a voice inquired who she was. They weren't a Dark Sprinter, but something about them didn't seem entirely like a Light Walker either. Red and blue eyes attempt to focus on the cervine, standing tall in confidence. " Takomassiet. Many refer to me as Takoma; the dimbo who got herself stuck in a dang tree!" The blotch patterned fawn snickered at herself for not having the common sense not to try off by the pond. "How about your name?"

Watching the kid trying to

Watching the kid trying to free themselves, Sam rolled their eyes and trotted over. Rearing back, they slammed their hooves into the base of the branch that the kid was caught in- snappy it off of the tree and letting them loose. "Call me Red." they told her, backing up a bit but still staying close enough to haul them out of the water if they needed to. "Do you always do this?" they asked, raising a brow.

Takoma shook her head after

Takoma shook her head after being released by Red, the freedom being quite nice. "Nice ta meet you; quite grateful for you freeing me." Before anything else happened, she laid herself down just so they could have a pleasant conversation. Hopefully, they wouldn't want to walk and talk, but hey, many things were not in her comfort zone anymore.

"No, I don't. Usually when I'm here or at any other pond, I just drink or bathe and leave, but I am trying to be more presentable and this a good place to meet new people. I wasn't exactly raised in the land of justice and loyalty as you can see just by glimpsing at my teeth." Instead of a herbivore's teeth, Takomassiet bore sharp canine teeth stained lightly pink, most likely the reason she didn't openly grin.

As the spook decided to

As the spook decided to explain why it was here and what it was doing, Sam couldn't help but feel a little perplexed. This seemed to be some trend in the forest- everyone was just so.. open. Seemed like they had nothin' to hide. But they knew better. Based on their information, they were not native to the forest- and probably hadn't been here long. As the stranger went to lay on the ground, Sam sat on her hind quarters so they could better move if they needed to. "Whatever land that is, I haven't seen it." they commented earnestly, shrugging. The stranger exposed sharp carnivorous teeth. Nothing like the one's 'Sir' had, but they were still something to keep an eye on. "So you're not from here, then. Guess we're int eh same boat."

As they entered conversation, the croaking of the frogs and the loud honking of the ducks seemed to increase. 'That's gonna get old real fast.' Sam though, keeping their composure.

"Boat?" She cocked her head

"Boat?" She cocked her head to the left, "What's a boat?" Perhaps they had come from a portal too, but by the color of their eyes and the lack of scars, if she was right, they were not spared from the same place. However, they didn't come from such a kind home either by their reply.

The croaking and creaking of the amphibians and crickets had now started to louden in her ears since there was nothing more to talk about, only standing the racket before speaking again. "Where do you like to go that's nearby?" While keeping an eye on Red, Takoma tried tried eating a nearby flower just before spitting it out and sticking out her tongue.

Sam chuckled with a smirk at the little spook's response. Right- the only thing even close to something a human would make would have to be the ruins here. "It's an expression. Means you and me have something in common." they explained casually. Sam watched as the little creature seemed to cringe a bit at the chorus of noise coming from the pond. "You read my mind, kid. Follow me." Sam replied, amused. 'Hey- kid, I've seen your fangs. Shouldn't you know plants are gonna gross you out?' thought the magenta deer. They began trotting off towards the Twin Gods statue, glancing back to see if the little spook would follow. "You don't mind if I call you Koma, right? I mean I'd call you Tako, but that sure don't have as good of a ring to it."

(LOL, it's alright. It happens!)

According to them, either 'a boat' was expression or 'We're in the same boat' was by the wording, but she knew what they meant to say. Thankfully, Red was getting quite annoyed with the obnoxious noises of the water critters and she happily followed after the larger cervine.

Just like Comen, these two seemed to get along just fine. They didn't scream, they didn't run, they didn't fight her away or anything like the similar Light Walkers from the past. Takoma should probably stop expecting that from people.

Golden locks waved behind her as she sprinted to chase a bird away, which always amused her when misty, yucky weather rolled around. Coming back to their side, the fawn's ears heard of a new nickname. "Sure, Koma is perfect." The calico child hummed.

As they walked towards the

As they walked towards the hill, Sam's eyes wandered over to Koma- who appeared to have a short attention span. How young was this kid? Sure, with most spooks you could try and guess their age because of their human faces. But other times, they weren't what they seemed. 'Let's hope that this one is.' the red head thought, their facial expression relaxing a bit as the croaking was getting farther and farther away. 'Well.. they act like a sugarcube. So that probably isn't so bad.'

They watched with some form of amusement as the little spook went after a bird, which flew away with terrified cries. Kind of a rough one, huh? They seemed pretty happy with the nickname that Sam had offered them too- which felt kinda nice. "So Koma- how long've you been here?" Sam asked, moving along the lower sides of the hill to go past it. Beyond that, there was the treeline of the birch forest- separated from them by a large clearing and spars trees.

Walking by their side, Koma

Walking by their side, Koma leaped over some stones and paused to keep pace with the adult, ears remaining on them in case something was said. Red wondered how long it had been since she had been taken here. Looking at the side-by-side altars, she replied before scratching a bug behind her ear. "About a year and a half. I got the basic jist of things, but there's still a lot i'm not used to."

The calico girl looked up to the magenta deer and asked them in her most innocent sounding voice, "How about you?" If they were in the same 'boat', whatever those were, she wanted to know how much info they had gotten compared to herself.

A year and a half? That was a pretty decent amount of time. But for someone to stay here and still be a bit clumsy around the place was a bit odd. That was, unless the clumsiness came naturally. Sam offered them a perplexed look before answering. "Not really too sure. it's not easy to measure time out here." they explained briefly. "Days can last forever, nights hardly come, and the weather barely changes at all." As curious as this kid was, Sam wasn't too interested in giving much about themselves away. The small stuff seemed to be expendable enough, though. "Have you been stuck here by yourself, or do you have some friends that you can rely on?" they asked, the pair trotting through the clearing at this point.

What they said was very true;

What they said was very true; each day always seemed to be longer than the last and the bliss of night fall never stayed too long to cool off what the sun had warmed. The misty weather probably wouldn't last long or it would feel like she lived in a rain cloud by her luck. Magenta cervine never said much about themselves, as Koma observed, but she would be able to understand. Coming to a strange place full of over-cheery deer was alarming.

Tilting her head to the side, the calico female uttered out a name, "Comen. I guess I could call him a friend; he gave me something to eat and seemed very friendly himself. He looks half snowy owl, I think is what he said it was." The candle-lit antlers of the bird-buck still were still in her photographic memory as the two passed the clearing. "So now what?"

The name didn't really

The name didn't really resonate with Sam as familiar, so this was probably just another spook to look out for. Although Koma had said he looked like an owl, based on this place... well, he probably wasn't just an owl. It was as if everyone here had been mixed up with some jumble of creatures at random, put in here and told 'Yeah, you're alive now. Deal with it'. Sam remained quiet until they reached the tree line into the birch forest.

Once they slipped past the first few trees, Sam, sat down and tapped the ground with one of her hind hooves. "Just sittin', n' staying." they replied, jet black eyes looking out towards the rest of the forest. "Not much to do here, but its better than that noisy pond."

Snickering slightly at Red's

Snickering slightly at Red's comment about the pond, she laid down in front of them, a happy smirk on her face. It had been a while since something was considered humorous to her, but it didn't take much for Takomassiet laugh. "Yeah, if I had to listen to those frogs, I might've just croaked over." The child smiled and leaned her head, waiting the reaction to her terrible pun.

They gave the stranger an earnest grin, raising a brow. They weren't always good at making their own jokes, but they decided to try something. glancing over at the pond, they dipped their head a bit and whispered in the little spook's ear. "Why do you think a frog is happy?" Sam asked, their grin growing a bit.

If this was going to be a joke, they had done a good job of making her interested in hearing by smply whispering. She didn't know what it was about whispering, but it always made things seem more important than just blurting things out. "I dunno; how?" The calico fawn muttered back in the quietest voice she could.

Sam smirked. "They eat anything that bugs them." the magenta deer replied, chuckling. Though, that was all they had in their head at the moment. Sam wasn't exactly the master of all things funny. "Hey, Koma- have you ever run into anyone here who trades stuff?" they asked, narrowing their eyes a bit in thought. There were still a lot of things Sam didn't know about this place, despite what they'd heard over their time here. They just needed to confirm a few things.

Raising a forearm to her

Raising a forearm to her forehead, she guffawed uncontrollably. That was one she hadn't heard before and it was pretty good. She tried to manage a few slow breaths with a some giggles inbetween to be able to answer Red's question, but it took some time for her to calm down. "Not as long as I've been here. There might be some who do, but I don't know what they'd trade." Black and orange shoulders shrugged, noting a small patch of dandelions nearby.

They groaned and slumped

They groaned and slumped over, showing mild disappointment. "Knew I shouldn't have trust a guy with really long talons and golden tipped antlers to tell me what's here." the magenta deer grumbled. They blew their hair out of their face, following the small spook's gaze. "Do you like flowers or something? or are you just hungry?" Sam teased.

"Eh, I suppose I'm hungry.

"Eh, I suppose I'm hungry. What do you eat?" The calico one probably knew they didn't eat meat like her, but she would never know until she asked. Takoma rolled onto her back and swung her legs in the air. "Guess what I am!"

Sam paused for a moment. In

Sam paused for a moment. In her prior world, she'd eaten meat, vegetables, and fruits. But here, the taste of meat wasn't all that appealing. And the most edible stuff she'd seen edible here was the seemingly endless supply of berries and pinecones. "Plants." came their curt answer. At her rather frivolous movements and statement, Sam raised a brow. "Well, you look like a lot of the other spooks here. I'm pretty sure you can eat more than just meat."
