How the Prince {Soko} came to be...

The birch forest was quiet and calm...all of the trees were reaching up to the sky, each one was hoping to touch Jupiter where it hung bright as a star. The sun had just begun to rise and stretched with rose-orange fingers across the sky. The sky itself was cloudless, the stars were still visible all around with the white-faced moon watching the world beneath her. She sent a cool breeze through the forest and it cooled the glistening sweat from the coat of a young stag that'd been hiding for the night.
He stood atop a high rock, shivering from the sudden coolness. For a moment the sun stopped stretching, and the moon stopped the breeze. Even the stars were holding back their daily dissapearance from the sky. All were looking at the creature standing on the earth beneath them. All the others of his kind had long been asleep. But as for that one stag, he hadn't slept at all. What alarmed the two great forces was the realization that they had not felt his presence all throughout the night. Though the almighty Twins had not removed him...something about his almost dissapearing had made the great lightbringers hold their power back.
With a quick glance about himself and a heavy sigh, the stag folded his legs beneath himself and set his head down on the cool stone to wait for the rest of night to pass. He was feverish and his normally thin coat of fur was matted with dirt, sweat, and blood. Beneath those were deep gashes and scrapes. His whole body shuddered from the pain.
The sun rose high and the heat got up, and the moon released the breeze and put in a scent of rain that cooled the stag down and relaxed him. The moon, stars, and night dissappeared and gratefully the stag stood up in the sun...for he was afraid of the night stars and moon but did not know why. The moon stayed lost in the bright light of the sun but drifted high over the stag, invisible...watching...remembering...

...Once...a long time before the stag was born into his forest...all the worlds were one. And all of the stars had been a part of one great star. And all of the moons of one great moon. The Twins had created it so, one world, one great Sun, and one moon. On the world had been many greatly different species of plants and other forms of life. They existed together and in peace. So the Twins, content with their work, had turned their faces from the world, moon, and sun for just a little while (in perspective with eternity)...for even they needed rest.
While the world was showing its creation to the moon and then to the sun as it turned one day, the sun grew jealouse but said nothing for a long time. But then one night the sun decided to speak to the moon.
"Look at all of the life..." He said.
But the moon ignored his voice and continued to give the world her full attention. So on the second night the sun called to her again.
"You should be the one with all the beauty around you..."
The moon ignored at first but her attention drifted to the words just a little. So little that the beings of the world did not even notice the difference in moonlight. Then on the third night the sun returned and glowed brightly upon the moon that her face became bright silver, and she saw her reflection on the waters of the world and got to follow the great waters around it.
"Look how beautiful you are, even the world's waters admire you."
But the sun did not have the moons full attention yet so she did not answer. So every night for fourteen nights the sun would draw the moons attention more and more to him so that she did not get to show her full light on the world. Then on the fifteenth night the moon turned away completely from the world and to the sun...and she said,
"For what reason do you call me from the the world as so? Tell me now, for the Gods are soon to be coming."
And the Sun answered. "I only say that you should know your own beauty and not marvel at the worlds."
"But why not? Look at its beauty...it is for the purpose of marveling that we are so near the world."
"You believe that?"
The moon hesitated but then said, "Yes."
"Let me tell you something..." The sun was quiet as the gentlest wind. "The Twins meant for them to be looking at our creations."
"But why? They have life and so many things....we have nothing but our light."
"But look now..."
Without another word the sun took a peice of himself and put it in the Twins sacred place of creation. The moon did the same with a peice of herself....but when they put them together all they got was a shimmering dust; it was nothing more. So the worlds creatures started crying out for fear because they did not see the moon, only the shimmering dust. They sent up one of their own, a man on a cloud in hopes that he could go look closer but he died on the way. They sent up a dove but the bird was fearing for its own life and flew away. In all of the noise and comotion the mans wife was left alone in her home. She did not know of the moons dissapearance, not that she would care, for she was close to giving birth to her first child. The Gods sensed the death and panic on the world but it was the womans cry that got to them first. So they started to hurry back. The sun realized this and quickly gathered up the dust and threw it down toward the world. But one of the Twins saw him and called to the other, for all matters had to be dealt with together.
"Look at what you've done!" The Gods said to the sun and moon.
The two almighty and the lightbringers watched the small cloud of dust drift quickly across the world. It seemed to take something from every sort of living being and then it found its way to the woman. She breathed it all in without knowing and at that very instant died, but her child was left alive. Unable to put to death one so innocent the Gods took the child and allowed it to keep its soul...but it could not return to the world because the dust had wrapped around the child's being and become it.
"The world has seen death now." The Gods said gravely. "So now to repair it you must see death..."
"But the child..." The moon had begun weeping. "Leave us to take care of the child...its father and mother are gone."
"We know what to do with it." One of the Gods said, "Though since you show concern Moon, you shall guard this child for eternity...alone..and where he goes, you will go."
The other added. "But the child will fear you forever, and hate the darkness that you bring...though he'll love you, Sun, you will burn him and only do him harm."
"The world will become many," They both said. "...and you Lightbringers will no longer have such great power. You will be with every world and still the child will be wandering between them. He will never truly be found to you until we decide to end you both forever. But since you are both a part of him he will end as well. His life won't be easy just as none of the worlds' lives will be easy...his pain will be both of your pains and his happiness will only belong to the Moon...for it is only she that has concern. As for you, Sun, your light will come from great boiling heat of which nothing has known before. You will wish for darkness but it won't come to you. We will allow him many joys and bless him with a gift...but because of you both he will also go through great pains, and cause pain to many. They will hate him and they will love him, they will kill him and they will save his life."
The sun said one final thing. "But there can only be one sun..."
"Then, now you will be Stars." One of the Gods said.
And with that it shattered into trillions of billions and uncountable numbers of stars. The moon glanced at the child before she too shattered into so many many moons but her spirit remained there with the child. The Twin Gods then turned to the world and it shattered with small amounts of each life form on every little sphere. The great universe came to be and the infant child dissapeared to one of them. The moon was left alone to find him, for she was his guardian...but first she had to ask one last thing of the Gods.
"He cannot be without a name...can he?"
"True," One of the Gods said and the other spoke. "He is the heir of you and Stars...The Prince of Stars."
She wanted to ask why it could not be 'of Moon' but then felt the pull down toward the world. Toward one of many worlds. And just as she left she saw the Gods creating something world-like but did not get to see much more...

With the little strength he had left, the stag limped to a healing fountain close by. The breeze was all that kept him going. He was so far...and then he was there...gratefully he thanked the Gods as he collapsed in the shallow pool of water beneath the fountain. The water turned murky for a minute and then purified itself and the stags fur and wounds as it flowed over him. There in the pool of water the stag closed his eyes and finally slept.
The breeze kept blowing and made the fur on his ears swirl like grass...

Good-morning my son...
