When switching from stag to fawn you will keep your set but your pelt will disappear. To get it back, you have to run through the crying idol to get the red pelt, and then sneeze it off or get someone to cast a pelt spell on you and then sneeze it off. Then your pelt will appear again. It's a weird glitch but it works.
