A darkened figure lay against the bases of the underlying roots of the Old Oak. His breathing was heavy, his vision blurred and his heart beating so wildly that his wounds deposited the thick, tar-like substance at the same tempo. He tried to stable himself many times during the previous day, but had failed. He tried again, his legs shaking underneath his weight, but he had virtually no strength left in him and he failed yet again. He couldn't even speak too well, as his words came out in mutters and blurts.
"H...hel..p... somebo..dy..."
"..Mitsuki...I..I f..failed..."
"I love you..."

{and this is in a box because boxes are awesome.}

Mitsuki had just about given

Mitsuki had just about given up all hope that her beloved would return. In the past days, she had all but lost her appetite and she had to try to hide it from the twins because she didn't want them to worry about her. The doe was half-asleep as she wandered through the forest, having become so very restless form her nap that she couldn't sit still any longer. She found her hooves taking her to the Old Oak, and although she didn't exactly know why she did know that she was a glutton for punishment.

Coming back to the place that they had shared so many wonderful memories would just remind her of him. It hurt so much but by clinging to the hope that he would come back was what kept her going. It meant that she would never forget how much she loved him, and how she would go looking for him when her son and daughter were old enough. She would travel to the ends of the earth to find him.

Her eyes became wet as they did many times when she would wake up in the middle of the night from the nightmares that haunted her. Her eyes stung, and a strangled cry escaped her as she drew closer to what she used to see as a safe haven of sorts. Mitsuki fought against the racking sobs, and forced herself to keep going.

She would never forget what she saw, and it made her doubt everything. She had to be dreaming. Either she was dreaming, or she was dead. Stormchaser lay against the roots of the Old Oak, severely wounded. Mitsuki's pain didn't fade, but grew stronger as she paused for a moment. She supposed it was her mind trying in vain to comfort her, but she didn't understand why he would be injured if this was the truth.

The doe closed the gap between them and her tears began to fall as she lost the battle she was fighting to try to stay calm. She curled up by his head, rubbing her nose against his cheek as the convulsions she had been avoiding for this entire time racked her body. Through the tears and through the pain of seeing her mate so wounded, she was somehow able to speak.

"I-I..I l-love y-you, St-stormc-chaser. I-I'm s-s..sor...sorry I c-co..uldn't s-save y-y..y...you."

As the small doe burrowed

As the small doe burrowed into his neck fur, tears escaped his ivory eyes and in an effort to comfort her, he said, "I...I'm okay...Ge...t help...go get..med...ic..I love y..." while fighting back whinnies and screams of distress as he took a hoof and wrapped it around her body. His heart beat so fast that it hurt to be happy. Mitsuki would get help.. and he would heal..and everything would be okay... right? He kept telling himself this as he cried, brushing his face against hers. The only thing that he wanted to know was what happened while he was away, while he was trying to stay alive in the human's world. But that wasn't the point, for he needed medical attention right away. His wounds were not healing properly and some of his scars had reopened, but there wasn't any blood. Just the black.

{LOL OKAY HERE YOU GO too lazy today.}

Mitsuki almost convinced

Mitsuki almost convinced herself that she didn't need to leave him, because if he were only a dream it wouldn't matter either way, but then a small doubt crept into the back of her head. What if this was reality? She had to find someone to help Stormchaser, or the consequences could be fatal. Her sobs slowed but she was still emotionally in shreds over the whole matter.

She forced herself to get up, and she forced herself to run away into the fringe of trees. She needed help, and she would stop at nothing to find someone to save her mate. If he died the doe didn't know what she would do, she would have a hard time not falling ill herself, it would likely result in what she was going through at the moment, except it would be much more sped up and much more severe. Mitsuki searched her mind for anyone who might have the knowledge of a healer, and the first one that she could think of was Dae.

She had to find someone soon, and as she ran, she was almost oblivious to her surroundings. Suddenly she collided with someone, and the doe nearly fell over from the shock of being dragged out of her mindspace and back into reality.

It was Hälla.

The grey doe started very

The grey doe started very suddenly as another body collided with her own, small form. She flinched and spun, ready to lash out at whomever it was, but her expression softened every so slightly upong meeting the gaze of a very distraught looking doe, someone who struck her with familiarity, as the female resembled the youth she'd met, Acaji. Her head tilting guardedly, she backed a step or two away.

Blinking, she waited patiently for an explanation before deciding to prompt her on. "You okay? What's wrong?" she was unsure why she cared much about this strangers wellbeing, perhaps out of a desire to be selfless, or just that this doe looked genuinely horrified. She couldn't help it. Something compelled her to try and fix or at least investigate the issue.

Mitsuki wasn't sure why she

Mitsuki wasn't sure why she was so easily able to talk about it, perhaps it was the urgency of the situation. She dared to hope that this doe whom she'd seen with her son once or twice was a healer. "It's m-my ma-mate, he is hurt. Badly. I need to find help, to find someome to heal him. I can't l-let him suffer." And she couldn't bear it if she lost him.

The grey doe nodded in

The grey doe nodded in agreement that she would help and followed the small black doe to the old oak, where a behemoth of a horse lay severely wounded. She assessed the giant with wide, red eyes. "I'll do what I can," she said, peering down at each individual injury. Hopefully she could do this, save something for once.

{MY TURN. GHGHGH.}

As another doe with Mitsuki returned to him, Stormchaser whinnied loudly and pinned his ears back. If this was to do more pain to him, he did not want it. Not at all. He didn't care even if she was meant to help him - he didn't know her, therefor he didn't trust her and didn't want to be under the care of someone he doesn't know. He wanted help, but he didn't want help, his phobias kicking in. Stormchaser tried to thrash to get away, but he failed and only caused more pain. He eventually gave up and told himself many times to comply with the will of the unknown doe.

Mitsuki would respond

Mitsuki would respond immediately to his distress, settling back into his neck fur in an effort to calm him. She watched to see how Hälla would treat him, immensely grateful to the doe but considering her first priority at the moment was Stormchaser, she didn't thank her aloud yet.

The hind whispered words of comfort into the stallion's ear, hoping dearly that he wouldn't thrash more considering it could severely injure her, too, and that wouldn't help anything. She decided for now that all she could do was lend her support, and just spending time near him was like a salve to her own emotional wounds.

Hälla flinched slightly at

Hälla flinched slightly at the stallion's reaction, more or less wary of his size rather an actually afraid. She waited for him to calm, and her head dipped slightly as she observed. She could only hope he wouldn't decide to suddenly rise and crush her. After another moment of close, careful inspection, she spoke. "I'm Hälla, by the way," her voice went briskly over formalities, moving to what was at hand. "I can help him. I just have to gather a few things, then I'll be right back," the grey doe promised, stepping quickly from the cavernous old oak and out in to the sunshine.

Trotting as quickly as she could, she paused occasionally to gather various plants and foliage. Poppy seed, cattail roots, and sage. When she returned, she gingerly set them from the mouth to the ground and began to work. She started with the sage, delicately pounding it with her hoof. She doubted his reaction would be one of delight, after seeing how he took to here mere presence, but she wanted to help. "This should help with swelling, or inflammation in case anything gets infected," she spoke as she work, carefully rubbing the smashed sage over the larger of his wounds.

Soon she returned to the cattail roots, which she again, beat with a single, splayed forehoof until it was a sort of poultice. She went back to the stallion, trying now to rub it over all of his wounds. It would ease the pain and provide something clot whatever was oozing from the gaping holes in his skin, giving she was able to successfully apply it without him writhing away. Her brow furrowed sympathetically as she moved on to the poppy seeds.

With this, she did not entirely desire to give them to him without his say so. "This will probably be put to sleep," she said. "Or make you drowsy at the very least. But it will numb the pain. I just thought I should ask before I put you to sleep."

The stallion calmed slightly

The stallion calmed slightly as Mitsuki comforted him, but he was still highly afraid of Hälla as she treated his wounds. In truth, he was glad for her to be treating his wounds. Glad that there's somebody to help and heal. But he hated pain, he despised it. Stormchaser's ears pinned back as the doe applied the medicine, gently shifting his weight from each sting, but not so fast so that he wouldn't automatically flip himself over and crush the does. But nevertheless, he stayed still.

As the doe explained how the herbs helped, he felt more and more comfortable with her. When the doe explained and asked if she could use the poppy seeds, he nodded to the best of his abilities at the time (for his neck was also covered in wounds) and waited for further instruction from her.

Mitsuki watched silently as

Mitsuki watched silently as the doe explained what she was doing. She seemed like she was knowledgeable, and what she said seemed to make sense, so she didn't question Halla. "Everything'll be okay," she told him, and although she was certain she did hope dearly that his pain would cease. She didn't like watching him hurt, and she also wondered if the right time would come soon to tell the stallion about the twins. She was both hopeful and nervous, shifting slightly on her hooves.

The grey doe nodded and gave the most warming, comforting smile she could. Collecting the poppy seed in the leaf she had gathered them in, she brought it nearer to his face. With a hoof, she dabbed the small seeds until they became a form of oil. Nudging the cupped foliage to him, she nodded to it with a dip of her head. "Drink that," Hälla instructed. Assuming he did, she would step back and turn her face to Mitsuki. "That's all I can do for him now. If you need me again, however, seek me out and I'll do whatever I can," she promised, smiling at the two of them.
