"Now now don't be shy gather around if you wish to share a story!"

Rhys beamed out towards the trees and settled his bulky frame down onto the rocks of the playground. It had become one of his daily rituals to sit and tell stories to the younger generations of the forest. He was not old to the forest himself, but, having come from a previous life he retained his larger frame, robust voice, and diploma from the school of "my dad alway said" and an undergraduate of "a bloke in the pub told me." despite his downfalls he was gifted since birth with the ability to spin stories the likes of which had never been seen before. The man was a natural born liar and used the talent to amuse as opposed to abuse the new neighbors in the forest.

He surveyed the trees a second time and lazily got to his hind legs to shake off his mottled pelt before rubbing his antlers against a near standing rock to illuminate the evening gloom with his rack of candles before settling back down to rest again and wait.

The Endless Forest 3.4 Spelldata Notice

I am not sure how many of you go to the tale of tales official forums, but I wanted to give a heads up before everyone got caught off guard and upset:


In the Endless Forest Version 3.4:

All spells are stored server side

You can no longer use spell data.
You cannot save devout or Crying idol pelts.
When you log into the new version for the first time you will lose all of your spelldata.

From the creator's post
"There's new buttons in the Network Menu to SAVE and LOAD your appearance. But it is also loaded automatically on log-in and saved on exit (not on log-out!). Keep in mind that only the current antlers, mask, pelt and body will be saved (and loaded). The "stack" you accumulate during gameplay is not saved anymore.

(we may add functionality to save multiple appearances later, but we want to get this simple version working first: one set of antlers, mask, pelt and body shape per account)"

Huh what?!
You will be able to have one permanent appearance on your deer at all times. (antlers, mask, pelt, etc)

One beta tester stated that they could load back this appearance WHENEVER they wanted in forest without having to log in or out.

So they fell in the pond, then just loaded back up like nothing even happened.

So if you run multiple deer under multiple pictos you should see no change.
You'll just have to get help in spelling sets back on the pictograms.

Forest Games [Updated with new games!]

So let's say you're sitting in the forest and are *gasp* bored!
You can't think of anything you could possibly do that would be fun.
Well don't fret you're in luck because the community has thought up many ways to keep ourselves interested. This is going to be a guide listing games that users play/have played in forest and directions/rules of the game if you are unfamiliar. Feel free to organize and play any games off this list. Smiling

Screen Shot Scavenger Hunt

Your mission if you choose to accept it....

starting now is to take pictures of your deer with specific landmarks, characters, animals, or deer in forest. The screen shots must clearly show both your deer, and the object in question. Occasionally a link to a biography may be necessary to accompany a listed item.
If you choose to take part you are privileged to *fabulous prizes* including bragging rights.

She was given the name...[Origins]

She was given the name Addfwyn and she was not born in the forest.
Like many she found herself there and seemed to accept this fact without complaint.

It was not as much a name as a hope left by her parents on the day of her birth.
Quiet, meek, complacent, and obedient were personality traits prided by her parents.

The village, on the other hand, put more stock in a gal's ability to lift a sow over her shoulders. The young men were sent to fight a never-ending war and the daughters stepped in to pick up the slack.

He was never one to have patience with the foolish, but this one was exceptionally childish.

It would stand there dancing on the edge of his vision and has been circling for the past ten minutes.

The body language said "I fear you."

Commonsense and prior knowledge translate this behavior into "PAY ATTENTION TO ME! HEY LOOK OVER HERE I'M AFRAID OF YOU!"

He sighed softly and turned his head again to attempt to ignore the pest, and yet again it ran up to ensure he was aware it was terrified of him.

He was annoyed, short tempered, and unwilling to put up with the female's bullshit.

"Do not think I do not see what you are trying to do."

It wasn't a shout, but if she did not shove off and find someone else to beg attention from it would be.

It answered with the normal stereotypical screams, cries, and cowering.

Ooh no its a little mini deer with bright colours and itty bitty little antlers.
My god it's *terrifying!*
Hide your fawns, hes a killer.
Sitting right there in a sun spot, alone, not making any attempt to get off his ass to socialize.
Clearly the greatest threat the forest had ever seen.

Ah well. Didn't hurt to take the bait occasionally.

She wanted something to fear eh?
He'd give her something to fear.

A few spells sneezed off and he was promptly ready to raise hell and harrass her until it took off the mask and smiled.

Or threw more of a tantrum.

Either was a viable outcome when it came down to it.
Even bad publicity was publicity.

TEF Personas

So I was browsing the Firefox Personas site and noticed a severe lack of The Endless Forest themes for the Firefox Browser.

I figured I would bring this to the attention of any firefox users/artists who want to put forth their talents to make a mini little persona theme we can use.

If you do not know, personas are very simple themes that lay over the default firefox. You put in some images and *bam* instant theme.


So if you feel like giving it a go for the forest, feel free to add one to the gallery and link it here so we can use it.


Alternatively:
If you are an artist who does TEF art and would not mind your art used in a persona BUT do not want to do it yourself/are not sure how/are just plain too lazy but would love to see others use your art then feel free giving permission also and link to which pieces you would not mind seeing used.
