The blackbuck approached the lair. The other deer told him that it was suicide. "The Twin Gods will protect me.", he replied. He stepped inside, his eyes needing to adjust. Already he was hearing their snarls. He could smell them, they were very close.

He stepped into a grand chamber of the lair, and surrounding him were several glowing eyes, all fixed on him. Wolves.

"Isn't this grand?", one of the wolves spoke, "Our lunch just decides to stop in and die for us."

Quad scoffed a little, "I am merely a representative of an Endless Forest. I have come to negotiate the nature of this land."

"Negotiate?", the leader wolf chuckled, "We do not negotiate. We eat!" The wolf pounced on the deer at once, expecting him to be an easy kill. But much to his surprise, Quad harnessed his gift of light. His body illuminated wildly, the darkness of the den becoming engulfed in blinding light. The wolves all winced and hid their eyes, the leader collapsing as he was caught mid-air when he was blinded. "Enough! Enough!", he cried.

The light faded, and all of them, even Quad, needed to adjust their eyes once again. "What in the world was that?", some of the wolves began to question. The deer answered them, "Our kind is more powerful than you realize. You really underestimate my species."

The leader backed away for the moment, "What do you want then?", he asked.

Quad cleared his throat, "I have come to negotiate the nature of this land."

"Negotiate...right...", the wolf agreed.

"I understand that your kind needs to survive, and in doing so you must eat meat. I will assure you that the deer of my Forest have established some rules on predation. First off...", Quad began, but the wolves bickered, "Rules? We follow no rules, especially from a stupid deer!"

The blackbuck coughed, "I'm an antelope, not a deer. And do I need to remind you what I can do again?", he asked, his body already starting to illuminate again.

The leader barked at the others, "Quiet! Let him speak!"

Quad smiled, his light fading once again. "Good. Now, the rules are really quite simple. Our Forest has boundaries, our Twin Gods protect them. Only my species and very few others - rodents, birds, insects - are allowed in. Others will only pass through the barrier only to find an empty forest. Now, with that being said, those of ours who cross through the boundary understand the risk they are taking, and are as you may call 'fair game'. We only have one rule on this - the fawns. If one of our fawns walks out unknowingly, they are not to be harmed. They do not understand the world yet, and one of ours will come and return them. Easy enough, right?"

Some of the wolves slowly nodded. Others questioned, "What are the prey around here then?"

"There are other deer, those who have chosen not to live in the Endless Forest. They choose to remain in the food web, living natural lives. It was their choice and we are to respect it. They, too, are considered 'fair game'.", Quad explained. "I assure you, there is plenty of prey for your species to live."

"And if we refuse to follow the rules?", one brave wolf asked. The blackbuck smirked a little, "Well, you'd get on my Twin Gods' bad side. And you don't want to do that. They can create things out of thin air. They may...", he started to look toward the ceiling of the den, "...just place a mountain right above this place."

"How will we tell the difference between your kind and those who choose to be prey?", the leader wolf asked. Quad lowered his head, and his mask slipped off of his face. The wolves could see the flatter, humanoid face underneath. "My kind has this kind of a face.", he said.

"Fair enough. We will respect the rules.", the leader wolf spoke.

Quad nodded, "Welcome to the land, then.", he said, and turning, he went back the way he came.

He emerged from the outside of the den, and there he was met by Michael and Auriea. "How did it go?", they asked him.

The blackbuck smiled. "Flawlessly. I seem to be a good delegate for these kind of negotiations.", Quad replied.
