Once, in an endless forest, there were a doe and a stag. They were quite happy together, even though their paring made no sense.
Such a dark, wicked looking stag, with such a sweet, tender doe.
How’d that happen anyway?
He had told her many times before. Why don’t you go look for a stag that suits you better?
One with white antlers, a real deer mask like you wear, the same chocolate pelt.
But she didn’t like it when he said such things, and shushed him.
She loved the black stag.
So time goes by. And at times, the stag finds himself alone. Quite often, frankly. He doesn’t like that feeling.
She hasn’t left him, oh no. She’s just not around as much.
He feels lonely, but doesn’t want to sit down and just feel that way.
He goes on his way to meet other deer.
So he does.
She’s quite a pretty sight. Quite fierce, too. They love to frolic together, this doe and the black stag. They joke a lot.
The stag occasionally meets his love. Nothing has changed between them. He adores her, still. She doesn’t share the same temper as his friend, but he doesn’t need temper.
He needs someone calm.
Though, the fierce doe and the dark stag meet more often. They play, they frolic.
They joke.
A nibble on your ear, a peck on your cheek, don’t we love to joke around.
In the dark of the night.
Noone needs to know.
It’s our little secret.
He enjoys the attention. Oh he surely does. As at one dark night, hidden away from others, the dark doe says something quite unexpected.
“Sometimes, I have the feeling, that I am the only doe you ever truly loved.”
And he doesn’t know. And he doesn’t like to answer.
Suddenly it’s no longer a game.
He realizes, he went way too far.
But it’s too late.
He decides to tell the sweet doe. His mate.
He tells her about the other doe. About how he betrayed her.
A rainy day it was.
Ever since then, he waits.
She charged at him. Her brother later, too.
He didn’t mind. He deserved that.
Even the fierce doe came to slap him across his face.
He should’ve kept his mouth.
No. No he’s glad he told.
It doesn’t matter that he’s alone right now.
Atleast she knows the truth. It’s what matters most. He got to make his decision.
He needs her.
But if she chooses to put him aside, he’ll accept that.
As long as she’s happy in the end.
