“Trust no human” Is what my mother said before she died I remember it like it was yesterday. My mother died from humans. My father died from a disease from humans. Humans are a plague. All they create is death and war.

I was In my room...my prison. I lay on the stone cold floor. The humans open the gate as I walk outside. The halls outside my prison were cold on my paws as the humans put on my chain leash and walked. I saw rows and rows of dogs inside their own prison. Some all dog, some part machine and some...all machine. The humans walked me outside where dogs all around in my group called Alarcial which was a group training to be a patrol dog. Many dogs don’t make it this far. Many dogs get badly hurt and killed and turned into one of those machines… I have gotten badly injured many times because I was not a favorite among the other dogs. I was bullied, beaten and rejected. It was mainly because I got special treatment because I am part wolf. Each time I got injured the humans used their special medicine to heal me but they never separated me. Everyday we would wake up and train, sometimes by ourselves. I was trained to think like one of those machines, Happy equals bad, Exited equals bad, Fun equals bad.

One day our small group went into this medium sized room, the machine dogs were waiting for us there. The room was white and the floor reflected my face, I had black fur and golden eyes. I looked more like my mother. The floor had a smooth texture but was cold as stone. We line up in rows shoulder to shoulder. “You are here in this organization to put fear in people of this worthless city. People with no fear are people with no respect. We are here because human police are needed elsewhere. If you do not agree with our rules or defy our goals you will be permanently… removed.” The machine dog said with his rough robotic voice. “You there, you seem to not like our noble cause, what are your views?”

The machine dog said as he turned to a dog two dogs down from me, the dog had tan fur and robotic legs and she seemed annoyed. “To be honest I do not support your goals you kill when it is not necessary and I can see none of these dogs are brave enough to stand up to you, you brainwash us for goal your mechanical core has been corrupted and I had enough of this corruption.” She said with anger. “You have no right to speak I know for a fact you attacked someone more than once when we ordered you to.” The machine dog said with no emotion. “True, but I did not kill and I only did so to please your worthless organization.” She said. The machine dog laughed “Remove this… defector we have no room for defiance.” He said. “I would rather die than go against what I believe in. ”She said closing her eyes. Then the dog next to her growled and then I looked away as I heard a yip then...the white floor turned red.

I still remember that day. Laina, my mother figure over the years came to me after that night. She sat next to me and sighed. “What is it? I know that look.” I said. “We are going to escape from this place.” She said as she looked up at me. “What? That’s a little suicidal Laina.” I said shocked. “What I learned from my patrols is the city is shaped like a maze. There is no way in or out of the building we are in and the city. But the only exceptions is the cards the humans use to get through the doors. And well humans want to make things… a little complicated.” She said as she looked down at the floor. “You deserve better.” She said looking at me. “So we will escape tomorrow, okay?” She asked looking at me. I sighed and looked up at her “Okay.”
As I woke up I heard sirens. There was red lights flashing everywhere I got up quickly and just then Liana stepped in with a card in her mouth. “Hurry, follow me.” Liana mumbled as she stepped out with me. We ran through the halls and we ran to the armory room. “Hurry suit up.” Laina said as she shut the door by swiping the card on a machine next to the door. There was weapons the machine dogs used hanging up on the wall. “How do I even use this or even put these on?” I asked confused as I put the suit threw my head and put my paws threw what looked like the sleeves. “Just like that.” Laina said putting on her suit there was handles attached on the suit and guns on the sides. The suit was metal and a little heavy. Just bite the handles to shoot and turn it to point the guns where you want them to point.” She said. “How do you know this?” I asked confused. “This isn’t my first time trying to escape.” She said looking at me. We heard some guards running in the halls shouting. “We should go.” She said as she opened the door and ran, I quickly followed her as we went to the exit. We didn’t know there would be so many machine dogs waiting for us on the other side. The leader of the machine dogs stepped in front of us he stared at us for a moment and laughed. “You are really this shocked?” He said as he quickly bit the handle of his weapon and shot Laina. I looked over shocked and started to growl as tears ran down my face and ran to Laina. “No!” I yelled as I looked at the machine dogs in anger. “She was weak. Come and stop this you are one of our best.” The leader said as he stepped closer to me. I then bit the handle and started shooting the machine dogs and ran for the entrance to the city. Many bullets were fired to me and two hit my leg and I yelped limped to the exit. Many people were on the other side and I heard many machine dogs shooting still and I ran through the crowed of people and came to a pipe and I then went into the pipe and hoped I lost them. As I lay there silent I saw the machine dogs talking with the humans and shooting some of them, then I saw a human turn and point out my hiding place. I got scared and crouched through the pipe that led to a sewer. There were many tunnels. I ran through one that had a dead end and looked around to see where I could hide. I heard the machine dogs running trying to get me. I then jumped in the sewage as I heard the machine dogs coming. I stayed there silent holding my breath. When I couldn’t hold my breath anymore I came to the surface coughing and gasping for air. Luckily the machines have gone.

As I laid down in the sewer I looked at my leg and saw two bullet wounds. I then licked the wounds to clean the blood off. I then found a metal wire next to a ladder, probably leading to the city. I grabbed the wire with my teeth and started to try to get the bullets out of the wounds I soon found one bullet but the other one has went straight through my leg. I then licked my wounds trying to clean it out I then felt woozy and my vision started to blur I then layed down and passed out.

I then woke up and found that there were rats crawling all over me. I then stood up quickly and stepped on one with my good paw, the others ran away. The one I stepped on started squeaking, I then bit it killing it quickly and started to eat it. I then went out the sewer from the pipe I came from and people were walking around and to me they looked miserable. I looked at the entrance and saw guard dogs and I began to run far away from the entrance of the city so they couldn’t find me. I then came upon a group of machine dogs patrolling the streets. I quickly hid behind a building but the machine dogs walked towards to where I was hiding and I quickly ran into the building. Most of these buildings had no doors and looked like they could fall and become rubble in any minute. As I walked up the stairs I found humans huddled in a corner and machine dogs with them. “Tell me humans. If you don't tell me whe-” The machine dog stopped and turned around slowly turned around and faced me. I froze in shock. Then they quickly shot at me, I felt many bullets hit me before I fell on the ground and passed out.

I found myself as a pup again. My mom was outside our den waiting for my father. Then we heard gunshots and my mom quickly moved my brothers and sisters and I to the back of the den. We waited there in the dark whimpering as our mother went outside. All we could hear were gunshots and a yelp... I woke up in a white room. My vision was blurry but I saw many figures around me. As my vision was clearer I saw humans with white suits and a white masks. I jumped up trying to escape but I found that I was strapped down with leather ropes. Then I saw a doctor holding a needle of some kind. I growled as I tried to escape but it seemed the more I fought the tighter the ropes were. The doctors held me down as they injected me with a blue liquid and my vision became blurry, then I heard the door slam open. Then I heard yelling and shooting and I saw figures of dogs and humans then I felt the ropes loosen.

There were many humans and dogs around me and the humans cut the ropes with knives and helped me up. Then it became dark and red and a alarm went off and I heard shooting outside. The humans and dogs began to run leaving me behind. ¨Wait!¨ I howled trying to run after them but fell. I heard a lot of machine dogs yelling outside. I began to limp behind a counter which had many needles and tools on it. After I waited behind the counter the barks and yells quieted down. I then heard footsteps in the room I was in and a familiar voice called out it was a dog. “Aclara?¨ The voice said. I was confused wondering who the dog was. Then I jumped in happiness remembering the dog. ¨Laina!¨ I barked in happiness running out my hiding place and quickly stopped as many tears filled my eyes with sorrow.

As I looked at Laina she had been made into one of those machines… She had white robotic parts and her robotic eyes glowed red. “No...Laina” I said starting to cry looking down. I then saw the leader of the machine dogs come in the room with two humans following. “What a shame.” The leader said as the two humans behind him carried a leash and muzzle and put it on me. As they led me to a cage they tied me up to a pole next to a wall in the cage. The leader walked to the outside of the cage and looked at me through the bars. “You will be killed tomorrow morning and made into a machine. You will fit in well.” He said laughing. I growled under the muzzle as he left. As hours past I looked at the ground and looked at my reflection. I then layed down and started to sleep.

I whimpered as heard the shooting and yelps. I left the cave and saw my mother on the ground and I quickly ran to her. “Aclara.” My mother said as she looked at me still lying on the ground. I sat next to her paws and facing towards her crying and looking at the bullet wounds on her back. “Aclara, remember that humans...are bad. N-never trust them.” She said trailing off and closing her eyes. I laid down whimpering as humans came and took me and my sisters and brothers.

I woke up to the sound of a cage opening and I saw a human step inside. She untied my leash from the pole and led me outside. It was raining hot drops of rain that made it humid. The human lead me up wooden stairs and put me on a rope that was tied to a piece of wood above me. Many dogs looked at me and many machines. I saw the machine leader next to a lever. “And this everyone is what will happen if you disobey us.” The leader said grinning. “Laina, pull the lever.” The leader said as Laina stepped out of the crowd and went in front of the lever. “Laina!” I shouted I starting to cry looking in her eyes. Laina paid no attention to me as she pulled the lever. As she turned the lever the floor below me fell and the rope started to choke me. I wanted to scream but couldn’t. I felt my heartbeat starting to slow and I knew this was the end.

I looked at the sky and saw a crow circling above me. Then it went black. As I opened my eyes I found myself on the floor. I could breathe again but my neck was bleeding where the rope was. There was fire everywhere and many bodies of dogs and machines around. Then I felt someone pull on me. I felt I cold sharp object slice in my leg I yelped in pain looking to see what it was. It was the leader. “It is all your fault.” He said with his claw slicing in my leg. I yelped in pain standing up limping. As I looked at the leader his ear was off and his eye was gone and both of his back legs were missing. He kept crawling towards me but each time he got close I stepped back. “Die already.” He said as his voice started to weaken as he closed his eyes and stopped breathing.

I licked my wounds. Then I remembered. “Laina!” I said limping and looking for her. I saw her body on the lever. I limped to her but it was too late. Her machine body was leaking a white liquid and her head had bullet holes through it. I laid down next to her crying as I let the fire consume me.

Quite the dystopian tale! I

Quite the dystopian tale! I wonder what happened that allowed this society to become so terrible..? It's interesting to think about what becomes of non-humans during wars. It's interesting too that the canines in your story are sentient! It's easier to write them that way, and it makes them easier for the average reader to identify with them.

As a suggestion, you may want to add a disclaimer at the beginning of the story to warn people about the violence and blood. Some people are more sensitive to that kind of stuff and I think they'd really appreciate it C:
