While I am a bit cautious about posting this I will say a couple things. No, the ending does not mean he is 'gone' or 'dead'. But I will not spoil it for those who wish to read on. This is a sub-plot for myself and anyone who wishes to be involved, for the most part though I do these things as a means of giving myself a plot to work with for my characters. Please Sad Do not be offended if I'm doing this ;3;

For those curious, yes... while Nightmare's skull is his actual face now this is a play of what he looked like 'before' and the deepest, darkest secrets hidden behind that skull.

Linkin Park - The Catalyst

Cold, Dark... Damp... everything was covered in a light source of fog from the great giants recent activities in the forest. Any other time Nightmare would have gone to greet the beast that towered even over him but not now. He had other things to do... snorting out deeply he had left Herla to whatever it was that she needed to do or wanted to do. They hadn't settled anything and all it brought him was more pain and misery in the deepest parts of his mind. The giant left the small doe with the words that he was going to speak with Aeron, his father... and that's exactly where he went.

Slowly, his form came out of the fog as he approached the playgrounds rocks and the giant glanced up to see the skeletal frame of Aeron standing atop the moss bed. Nightmare's attention falling to the moss itself, seeing the flowers lining it... roses, poppies... the purple hyacinth's found all around the forest. And then one large lily found at the center of it all. Walking around, the giant slowly climbed his way up before stepping over and standing beside the form of his father. A thick silence between the two as they stood there, Nightmare glancing off in the direction that Aeron had been staring off into. The skeletal stag focused on some point in the distance that his son didn't see.

"Yes Nightmare?"

The blue giant's attention returned to that skeletal face when his father spoke... and then he lowered his gaze down towards the moss bed. Tail swaying behind him carefully as he contemplated his thoughts, trying to delve into what he wanted to do or what he wanted to happen. Claws dug into the rocks below him as a low growl came out of Nightmare, he was conflicted... choices that he wanted to make weren't easy. But slowly he settled on one in particular... and those glowing red orbs fell onto those of his father as he walked around in front of him "Don't you think it's high time that I finally departed from this hell?"

Aeron snorted out softly watching as Nightmare slowly walked around him... watching his sons every movement as he walked and then listened to those words. What did he think? Well... things come and go as they please but the skeletal being knew very well what Nightmare meant by the word Departed. It was implying an actual death, one with which the giant would not return from. In the end, it was all Nightmare's choice but what father would want to be the one to do in his only living child... Aeron was there to protect Nightmare... not kill him. A low sound came out of Aeron as he lowered his head down and let those ridged spikes of that bottom jaw glide over Nightmare's back as the other walked along... it was a manner of a father hugging his child... or at least the best that Aeron could pull off "You know I cannot do that Nightmare..."

"Yes you can..." The giant stopped and glanced back to the skeletal frame that was his father... a low growl coming out of Nightmare as he drew away from him... walking around and standing in front of the towering stag stomping one of those clawed legs down... crushing several of the flowers with it. Earning a thick and low growl from the other stag with such an action "I know you can father... through you I was able to kill Catrin's spirit... through you I was able to destroy my brother... and through you I can die..." Snorting, Nightmare dug those claws into the moss more... treading on thin ice with these actions. He had destroyed the grave on several occasions but not when his father had been around. The blue monster knew well it got under what little skin the demonic beast had... and knew what buttons to push.

Those glowing orbs watched as Nightmare continued... watched as those claws would dig into the moss... destroyed the flowers he had laid to decorate the moss. A low, deep growl came out of the giant as he shoved forward and lowered that head down shoving against Nightmare's chest and pushing him back and away from the moss before swinging that head around and using one of those massive antlers to out right slam into the blue beasts skull. Expecting that to be enough to knock some sense into his sons head the skeletal monster turned and walked back to the mossy grounds lowering his head down an nudging some of the crumpled flowers and visibly frowning through those glowing orbs in that thick skull. Distracted, it wasn't until pain flared up from that back hock of his did he responde with a bellowing roar.

Nightmare shook his head violently as he clutched down on the black furry ankle of that hind leg... letting go when the second leg was brought up and kicked into that skull of his. Growling low for a moment the giant shifted around and carefully walked along hissing out softly "Come on... come at me... attack me, maim me... kill me... do what you know is right father! End the suffering... end my misery..."

A low snort came out of Aeron as he watched Nightmare carefully but remained silent... returning his attention back to the moss bed where he went to trying to fix the destroyed flowers. Snorting low he was keeping an eye on Nightmare's form from the corner of that skull of his... the blue stag seemed very intent on getting him to do what he wanted. He was old, wise but still there were things that set him off... but he wouldn't lose himself in the manner that Nightmare had done. No, if he did attack the figure behind him that was lurking he would give him the pleasure of pain but not the death that followed it. A rough scolding is what it would be, a... very rough scolding really.

Snarling softly, those bottom jaws starting to shake Nightmare slowly stalked around behind that skeletal frame... hissing deeply in annoyance. His mind had been set, focused on such things and that desire to just end it all. There was no true desire to just... stay here, or to leave again like he had done to mend himself up into perfect health once again. Slowly stalking behind his father he growled more... pacing... moving back and forth, slowly and carefully waiting for something to show a vulnerable point. When there was a brief moment of guard being let down was when the blue beast moved forward and pushed his body into that form of his fathers... making the skeletal creature loose balance and go stumbling forward, Aeron having to jump from the rocks to avoid from falling completely.

Sneering some Nightmare drew his head up and took a step back growling sharply before rearing up and slamming those claws down onto the moss bed under him... tearing into it. Ripping apart the flowers, discarding them in all their crumpled glory. Rearing again he dug those claws into the moss and ripped clunks of the tender foliage up before lowering that skull down and tearing the large water lily away. The end result getting a bellowing roar from the skeletal father down below who was immediately on him, the blue beast feeling teeth sinking into his flank as Aeron ripped him away from the destroyed grave.

"ENOUGH with your foolishness boy!" The giant snapped out... snarling slightly as he made his way in front of the other stag who was coaxing him... goading him into attacking. How badly he wanted to... but Aeron was holding himself back... despite how much he wanted to maim that blue furry beast in front of him he was still holding against it. Stomping down with one of those hooves the skeletal brute snorted out... thick smoke coming up from his skull and pouring from that boned frame of his "I pray the love and affection that you get from your friends is enough to save you boy..." Aeron muttered out under his tongue... hissing deeply, an almost mutated sound really "Run... I enjoy hunting my victims down..."

A low snort came out of Nightmare as he watched his father... lowering down and snarling slightly before he lunged forward and went to latch those jaws around that fur covered throat. Only to be met with one of those massive antlers crashing into the side of his skull... shattering that side jaw and sent several spider cracks up and along the upper jaw and eye socket. The force behind the impact shooting the blue giant down to the rocks with a heavy thud... hissing sharply his head jerked up to watch Aeron who was just standing there and watching him intently.

"I said run..." The voice was in a low growl, mutated... twisted... distorted... and for a moment there was a tinge of fear in Nightmare's lost and deluded mind. A feeling that the giant had lost and never had... it was surfacing a bit... he never feared anything but this was something that was drawing such an emotion out of him. Slowly he pushed himself to his feet... that outer jaw that had been struck hanging low as black... no... red blood was trailing down the bone. What? The blue giant always bled in black... there was not an ounce of red left in his form that should allow such a thing to transpire. But, that was the beauty of his father's touch... Aeron created him... he could take away that creation as well.

Taking one tenative step back the giant lowered down... cowering slightly as that fear was slowly overtaking his form. The beast may have been the thing to haunt and destroy dreams but his father was the one that created that power... and perfected it. Cowering a bit more, he didn't need to be told again when he heard Aeron speaking... demanding that he run. Doing a double over that large body of his, the giant lunged off the rocks and crashed down on the ground quickly taking off. The forest around was growing dark... and foggy... coated in a thick mist where wolves howled in the distance. Through the midst of his running Nightmare felt the pounding of that darkened heart... and shrilled sharply when a large wall of flames came up in front of him.

Claws dug into the ground as the giant skidded to a stop... huffing out a breath and looking around as that fire slowly circled him. He trembled... cowered... the giant was actually terrified by such things. It reminded him of the hells he had gone through when he died only to be reborn... the horrors of having to relieve each of those deaths... to see how and why they happened. Shrieking out and screeching in that unnatural howl of his the giant stepped back and nearly tripped over his feet... another step back and then he sunk down... suddenly water filled his lungs... he was being dragged down to the depths. His body was heavied down with chains, dragging him under... whatever cries of fear he was letting out were muffled out and only bubbles escaped those jaws of his.

Nightmare struggled... his body and mind desperately trying to swim to the surface of this pit but that will was weakening. And soon that weight just sky rocketed and the beast crashed down onto the bottom of the murky depths stirring up fish that scattered and the mud clouding the area around him. That red glow of his eyes the only light in the murk... and his blue fur swayed slowly in the small current of the water. Though his response was quickly woken by the sight of... things... those he knew... those he loved before... gone. Lost to the depths of the pond of the forest, shrilling in silence the giant lurched up onto the be taken back down by the weights of those chains. Crashing back down against the murky floor and stirring up more muck.

That fear overwhelmed him... but soon the water whirlpooled away and he gasped in air... none of this was real but it certainly felt it. Gasping and wheezing out the beast laid there... chained down to the forest floor by some ungodly force. He was oblivious to things around him, felt half drowned... weak... the monster being oblivious to the approach of Aeron as the skeletal being came up behind him. Those glowing orbs in that skull of his father taking one long look over the battered frame of his son... seeing the damage that he caused.

Slowly, Aeron walked around... red blood was starting to pool around the beast frame... coating what remained of his fur with it's crimson glory. The skeletal being snorted before lowering that head down near the skull of his sons... nudging the creature in an almost comforting way... like what any father would appear to do. But slowly he drew away and that head rose back up as he stared down at Nightmare "Know this... while I will not kill you I will grant you the pain of such a thing once again... and perhaps this... will open your blind eyes to what you have."

A thick spray of blood came up, gurgled out sounds floated through the air as teeth sunk into flesh and ripped it apart... tearing away and ripping that throat open... but that wasn't it. No... Aeron dug further... ripping deeper and deeper into his sons flesh before he tugged back and a sickening crackle was heard before the sound of something hitting the forest floor was heard. Blood coated jaws drew away as the skeletal creature stepped back... flesh hung loosely onto bone, tendons grasping onto that tar coated bone as well. Turning, the skeletal being slowly made his way off... disappearing into the heavy fog that was slowly coming to surround the crying idol where the frame of his son laid.

Breathing, but barely... twitching and convulsing... when anyone would look from the distance they might just think of it as nothing. But approaching closer one would see that the flesh that was hanging from the bone was due to Aeron having ripped that massive skull of his sons away from where it was hinged into his form... remnants of what appeared to be a humanoid face hidden in the mass of blood, flesh and gore... skeletal and decayed beyond recognition. Was this what was hidden for all those years?

Was the monster once... normal? Did the monster at one point bleed out crimson blood like he was now? No one knew to be truthful... save for those few that met him back then. Long gone, they were never seen since that time... or if they were they had changed just as much as he. A heavy convulsion of his body came as that skull twisted and twitched... slowly seeming to try and crawl it's way back into place. To crawl back to where it belonged... but it was failing. Leaving the creature to lay there in misery and pain.

So Aeron tore Nightmare's

So Aeron tore Nightmare's face off? @_@

This family brings the term dysfunctional to an all new level.

CONFUSION ASIDE it was a nice read. I'm envious of how much work you put into your plots heh, really wish I could write stories like these...

Just wish I knew what to do now ._.'

Gave him a dose of his own

Gave him a dose of his own Nightmare's and then did yeah... just that. It's not completely ripped off, he tore it away enough to reveal the hidden secrets behind it and enough to leave him 'alive' but to force his body into a state of needing to be reborn so to say.

Yes... very Dysfunctional family... very very Dysfunctional Family.

Edit: ARG! Ninja'd by Shi!

Haha don't worry to much on it, the majority of the 'plot' leading up to the face ripping is backstory to an extent. There's a lot of hidden secrets behind that which delve into his past life where he showed 'love' to a few others. The drowning portion in particular being a very big thing to the first doe that he actually showed any affection for.

As for what to do, well give it a couple of days for now. In a few days Nightmare's skull would have crawled back up so that it could begin to fuse back into place... albeit painfully XD

"Your efforts are insignificant! I carry you to your deaths!"

Omfg. That was amazing. Poor

Omfg. That was amazing. Poor Nightmare. ;o;

And I love how you had the lyrics "fade out" towards the end. (:
