I thought I'd show that you don't have to be an artist to make your screenshots look awesome. All these screenshots are un-edited (apart from re-sizing to 800px), and all that's been done is a tasteful crop. I've included a few tips below each so you can get the best out of your shots when telling a narrative or simply conveying something about your character.
These are just random screens I plucked from today that I didn't originally intend to have purpose. So even shots that you weren't purposefully taking for any editing can look lovely!
5 Images under cut (:

Far away shots are great for squeezing in as much scenery as possible and dictating the focal point. In this image, I've cropped it so that my deer is not the main focus, but the light is instead. Because he is also facing that way, it conveys an importance to that direction. Having your deer face away from the camera, but in a specific direction, is a great tool to use if you're telling a story that features a specific area.
^
Here I've used the same technique to hint at the God Statues as the main focus, even though my deer is the biggest thing in the image. Also noticed how I have used the trees either side to create a border - this contains your scene without having to do anything extra.
^
Using the treetops is a good indication of space and distance. The tree-part in this gives you an indication of how far away you are from the subject, and adds realism to the scene.
^
Same in this picture; the distance you imply by using the treetops adds realism and accentuates the importance of where your deer is sitting/standing. Further editing can include the treetops being blurred, so that you're looking past them and focusing elsewhere in the distance.

Last one is an easy one - if you want to show your character walking, see if you can cut out the sky so that it's all ground. Sky is distracting from the actual activity!

stupid question that has

Awesome tips, thank you! I
I think for the last one you could also add the idea of having more space in front of the character to lead the eye, so you can "see" where he is walking. Pretty much the same thing you mentioned with the other screenshots. Just suggesting.
Heehee, that too (; I used
I used more or less the same image for a screenshot of Dag that I posted before, so I didn't want to make it the same and used the tree-border on the left instead <3
I love the Crying Idol one,
And...
how in the world did you get on top of the Twin Gods?
Those are very amazing tips
It's quite nice to see and described how you do it, many thanks, Dag! <33

Ha! I've solved this puzzle.
To get on top of the idols, there is a black hill higher than the idols in the distance. Go to the top of that hill, then use the flying trick of holding your up arrow, shift key and hitting your space bar as fast as you can.
You will be able to gallop into the air. It will take a while to get back to Idol Hill doing this. Fly until you are exactly right over the idol's position.
Hit your ESC key (escape key) right at that moment. Your deer will then be paused in place over the idols.
You will see your operations menu but then if you hit and hold your CTRL (control) key to clear off the menu, so you won't see it while you take a screen grab in a different program to capture the image of your deer in the air.
What a cool trick. These steps, so far, work to get on top of a lot of unusual places for screen snap portraits.
