Temporary Peace

Carefully, one step after another. Her white hooves nearly made no sound as she slowly walked through the woods. From time to time she stopped and lifted her head. Smelling, listening. Like an normal animal would do.
She shook her head, silvery gray hair fell into the face of a young woman with luscious lips, soft features and unusual black eyes... A womans face attatched to the body of a dainty, black and white colored doe.
A pair of goggles on the head of the creature completed its strange look.
... though it was quita a normal appereance for this place.

This forest around her, it was still a surprising and new, exciting world... this endless seeming forest. She had no idea how long it was, since she arrived here... and yet, she had only a vaque idea how he actually got here.... she just followed him... that was all she knew.

She swished her long, silky tail and moved on. Different to him, she was still not used to this new body... and she knew it would take her some time. She was not a master of adaption like him. But she already learned how to use her senses, to catch the scents in the wind, to distinguish the different noises of the forest and its creatures.
It took not long untill her nose and her ears lead her to a small clearing next to that broken church.

Slowly she sneaked closer, watching the one, who lay in the warm sunlight in the middle of the clearing. The white stag had turned his back towards her, she was not sure if he slept, or was awake.

Suddenly the stag giggled. She started.

"He, he, he... so ungeschickt mein Schwesterlein... immernoch so ungeschickt... du musst leiser sein, leiser...ja kleine Jane?" (He, he, he... so clumsy my little sister, still so clumsy... you have to be more quiet, more quiet... yes, little Jane?)

He started to move, rolled on his back. He turned his face towards her, grinned at her.
A human face, like hers... but not as soft as hers. Harsh features and cold eyes. Eyes like hers, black with a light grey iris. Short white hair with some black streaks, hold back by a pair of goggles like hers. Unlike other stags in this forest he had no antlers... at least... most of the time...
His grin was distorted by the horrible deep and lousy stitched scars that drew painful lines fom the edges of his mouth across each of his cheeks.

Several fresh cuts where visible on his face. It seemed he fought someone recently.
She knew whom it was.
He fought himself... again.

Jane started to smile, stepped closer.
"N... nächstes mal... bestimmt... hi, hi..." (N..next time... for sure... hi, hi...)
He closed his while laying on his back. Somehow his face had a for him unusual peacful look. She sat down next to him, had a careful look on him.
Many wounds covered his body, some nearly healed up, some still fresh. Dried blood stained his white fur dark in some parts.
Two of the cuts hin his face where that deep she was almost sure that those will be two more scars in the future.
She sighed.

"Hmhm... was ist denn Schwesterlein... sind wir besorgt, ja?" (Hmhm... what is it little sister... are we worried, yes?)
He rolled back again, moved a bit closer. Slowly he pressed his face against her throat and bitt her gently, before he giggled and put his head on her back.
Jane sighed again... this time because of the pleasant shiver that ran down her spine.

She knew he was in pain. And she also knew that it was this pain that made him this peaceful now. He was used to feel pain. Pain that was caused by others. He learned to love it... and he learned to love the pain he can control... he can cause to himself even more.
She expirenced it so many times now... still she was torn between sadness and joy.
Sadness about what he had done to himself again...
... joy about something he rarely let her feel, at least like this...
Love.

She turned her head and looked at him, started to smile again.
"Fühlst... fühlst du dich wohl, Jack?" (Do... do you feel well, Jack?)

A somehow warm smile crept on his face. "Du kennst die Antwort." (You know the answer)

Again she sighed, turned her head again and watched some small birds chasing each other through the branches.

"Ich... mag es wenn es so... friedlich ist, weißt du? Wenn... wenn du..." (I... like it, when it is... this peacefull, you know? When...when you...) She didn't go on.

"Oh, ja, ja... ich weiß..." (Oh, yes, yes... I know...)

"Und... und weißt du was? Ich.. ich glaube... du... du hast dich auch ein bisschen geändert, weißt du? Du... du bist jetzt... viel öfter... so... so... friedlich." (And... and you know, what? I... I believe you also changed a little, you know? You... you are much often... this... this... peaceful now.) she turned back at him, smiled at him. A bright... and somehow desperate smile.
A smile of desperate hope.
"Vielleicht... vielleicht hast du jetzt auch endlich Frieden gefunden, ja? Vielleicht... heilt dich dieser Wald. Vielleicht kannst du... jetzt wieder gesund werden, ja?" (Maybe... maybe you finally foud peace, yes? Maybe... this forest is healing you. Maybe you can get well again now, yes?)
He had closed his eyes, didn't answer.

Jane lowered her head, turned around and watched the birds again.

She heard him snicker.
"Ach... ach, glaubst du das, ja? He he he... dumme kleine Jane... mein schwesterchen liebt es sich selbst zu belügen, ja? He he he..." (Oh... oh, you believe this, yes? He he he.... stupid little Jane... my little sister loves to lie to herself, yes? He he he...)
He got up, stared at her. The warm look on his face was gone... the coldnes was there again... and this sinister gleam in his eyes.
"Ich liege hier neben dir... nachdem ich mit freuden versucht habe diesen Körper zu zerschmettern... he he... die.. die Schmerzen ins unerträgliche zu treiben... die Schmerzen... das Glück... das mich am leben hält... ja? He he he... und du sprichst von frieden... ah meine kleine Jane... ich mag die Welt in der du lebst.. oh ja, ja... he he.." (I lay next to you... after I tried to smash this body with delight... he he.. to increase the pain to unbearable... the pain... the joy.. that keeps me alive... yes? He he he... and you are talking about peace... ah my little Jane... I like this world you live in... oh yes, yes... he he...)

She bit her tongue, lowered her eyes. Those words were hurting... but true.
Why was he always hurting her... with the truth... with words... with hits... with blades...
Suddenly she felt him close.

She looked up, felt his lips touching hers. She closed her eyes... felt his kiss.
There was it again.. this pleasant shiver... this time much more intense.

He broke the kiss and looked at her . "Ich liebe dich, kleine Jane..." (I love you, little Jane...) he whispered into her ear.
His voice was calm, like the look on his face. No sign of madness, of rage...

Jack laid back, placed his head on her back again. He giggled.
"Und jetzt sei still..." (And now shut up) ... He was himself again.

She was happy anyway... cuddled up to him... enjoyed to be close to him. Felt the warmth of his body, smelled his scent.
Soon she could feel him breathing deep and regular... he fell asleep.

Though this peace was only temporary and for a high price... she was happy about it.

It was worth to be enjoyed to the full.

She closed her eyes.
"Ich hab dich auch lieb..."
(I love you, too...)
